At this commemoration, a chair (cathedra) was left empty for particular deceased persons. Since the actual date of St. Peter’s death was unknown, it came to be commemorated on February 22, eventually celebrating his taking pastoral responsibility of the Church of Rome. 1 Pt 5:1-4; Ps 23:1-3a, 4, 5, 6; Mt 16:13-19 Saturday, February 23 – Memorial of St Polycarp, Bishop and Martyr Polycarp died around 155 at age eighty-six.

Hello friends, Thank you so much for your participation in the 2018 Arch-bishop’s Annual Appeal. Your generosity during the appeal led us to achieve our goal of $40,100. Contributions in the amount of $43,590.36 were received by December 31. There were still over $15,000 in unfulfilled pledges this past year. Please remember that every dollar contributed to the Annual Appeal campaign over our assigned parish goal, comes back to our parish 100% to help with our operating expenses. As I express my gratitude for your generosity I want to report that the 2019 Annual Appeal campaign begins this weekend. This year the theme of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is “Go, therefore, and make disciples.” One way we can show our love to our brothers and sisters in faith is to generously respond to the Archbishop’s request for a pledge to the 2019 Appeal. While much of the Church’s ministry takes place in our parishes, we also come together as an archdiocesan Church to carry out critical services and ministries that have impact beyond any one parish. A letter from Archbishop Gregory was mailed to all previ-ous donors to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. He is asking for continued support of the many important programs that help thousands in our archdiocese each year. The goal for the 2019 appeal is $8,500,000 and the goal for our parish is $38,200. As we begin our 2019 campaign, let us prayerfully consi-der the pledges we make to the Archdiocese, and commit ourselves to fulfilling those pledges. Thanks again to the 211 donors who participated in 2018!

STEWARDSHIP BY THE BIBLE — CORRESPONSABILIDAD DE ACUERDO A LA BIBLIA

CATEQUÉSIS COMUNITARIA Y FAMILIAR — COMMUNITY AND FAMILY CATECHESIS

Trust in Jesus, the way to true happiness Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of February 17, 2019 Listen to the Word (Luke 6:17, 20 – 26) As you hear this reading, what words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? What lingers in your memory? Look into your life Question for children: How do you experience God’s blessing in difficult times, when you are sad, hungry, or when friends re-ject you? Question for youth: How does trusting in God make a differ-ence in your life? Question for adults: In today’s Gospel, we are reminded that we will be either blessed or have woe done unto us. It’s a chal-lenging teaching! Which half of this Gospel reading applies to you? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: Decide on ways to simplify your family’s lifestyle. Ask family members to think about material things they have that they may be attached to. Have them write on a slip of paper the name of one of these material things. Pass around to each family mem-ber a trash bag, and have them toss the paper into the trash. Discuss the things family members tossed, and what should replace their attachment to those material possessions as you strive to simplify your lives as a family, and put your trust in God. Recall stories from your extended family that demonstrate trust and faith in God. Have family members tell about recent times when they stepped out in faith and put their trust in God. Discuss ways your family can share what has been given to you. Have all members of the family make a contribution from their allowance, savings account, etc., to provide a meal or dona-tion to a family in need. Find ways for the family to relax and have fun without spend-ing money. Some suggestions include: picnics, walks, hiking, biking, yard games, and table games.

The Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time 17 February, 2019

All of us have been in situations when someone has made a nega-tive comment or joke about God or our Catholic faith. How did you respond? Did you stay silent or pretend to go along with the others because you didn’t want to cause any trouble and then, later, you felt bad? Remember that God is with you all the time, that the Holy Spirit will put the right words in your mouth. Pray for the strength and courage to proclaim our faith to others, especially during un-comfortable situations.

"Blessed are you when people hate you, ...exclude and insult you, and denounce your name... on account of the Son of Man.” (Luke 6:22)

(Lucas 6:22)

Serving over 1,000,000 Catholics, the mission of the Archdiocese of At-lanta is to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord, and grow all of North Georgia in faith, hope, love, and service to others. Together, we are God’s hands and feet, sharing God’s compassion and mercy, and demonstrating that “Go, therefore, and make disciples.” Your gift to the 2019 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal helps makes it possible by supporting the ministerial, outreach, education, formation and disciple-ship work of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Please read the material that has been included with your Sunday bulletin. Please give prayerful consideration to your level of support to help fund the essential ministries and services supported by the Appeal. Next weekend, we will hear a recorded message from Archbishop Gregory about the Appeal and everyone who has not yet make a gift to the Ap-peal will have the opportunity during our in-pew process. Please be pre-pared next weekend to make a pledge to the 2019 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. To learn more about the appeal, and to donate online, visit appeal.archatl.com. A video of Archbishop Gregory’s Appeal message is also available online.
