THROUGH ENERGY INNOVATION Nearly Zero Energy Hotels 2015

Conference in English and French (simultaneous translation)
The nearly Zero Energy Hotels 2015 conference -neZEH 2015- will offer a unique forum for attendees from the tourism and hotel sector, sustainable buildings and energy efficiency professionals, representatives from regional and local authorities as well as other interested organizations in order to actively exchange, share and challenge the opportunities of energy innovation as a means to enhance sustainability and competitiveness in the hotel sector. This international conference, co-funded by the European Commission under the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme, will take place as part of the Innovative City Convention 2015, a major European and international event which gathered 3000 visitors in 2014. The neZEH conference is free to attend for registered participants, who will also have free access to the Innovative City features.
neZEH 2015: What can you expect? Around two thirds of global carbon emissions come from energy use. The tourism sector, as a provider of services, is an important energy consumer and over 20% of its carbon emissions come from accommodation. There are huge opportunities for the hotel industry to reduce its energy consumption. In this perspective, the neZEH 2015 conference will:
- Present the issues and challenges addressed by the nearly Zero Energy Hotels, with a particular focus on how energy innovation in the hotel sector can contribute to the European and International objectives relating to climate change mitigation.
- Inspire and drive replication of best practice by showcasing relevant examples and demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of nearly Zero Energy Hotels.
- Host discussions on the opportunities for action to be seized by hoteliers, such as existing financial tools as well as supporting mechanisms.
- Underline the potential of nearly Zero Energy Buildings policies to enhance the transition towards sustainable tourism and cities.
- Highlight the marketing opportunities linked to sustainable strategies, in a context of growing awareness in clients’ behavior.

Who are we? The neZEH project and partners The European project neZEH (nearly Zero Energy Hotels), co-funded by the European Commission under the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme, aims to accelerate the rate of refurbishment of existing hotels into nearly zero energy buildings. neZEH supports hoteliers in the implementation of measures aiming energy excellence by providing technical advice; demonstrating the feasibility and sustainability of investments towards nearly Zero Energy; undertaking training and capacity building activities; promoting front runners at national, regional and EU levels to increase their market visibility. The neZEH project gathers 10 partners from 7 European countries:

Conférence en Français et en Anglais (traduction simultanée) Organisée sous couvert du projet européen neZEH « Hôtels Presque Zéro Energie », cette conférence internationale a pour objectif de mettre en avant l’opportunité de l’excellence énergétique du secteur hôtelier en tant que contribution à la mise en œuvre d’un tourisme bas-carbone. Cette conférence accueillera notamment une table-ronde de haut-niveau qui sera retransmise en temps réel sur Internet. Celle-ci réunira différents acteurs francophones et internationaux impliqués sur la thématique de l’environnement construit durable. Il s’agira d’un moment d’échanges et de débats autour des multiples opportunités d’action.
De quoi parle-t-on ?
Près de deux tiers des émissions carbone proviennent de la consommation d’énergie. Le secteur du
tourisme, en tant que fournisseur de services, est un important consommateur d’énergie et plus de
20% de ses émissions carbone sont issus de l’hébergement. Il existe pour le secteur hôtelier un
potentiel gigantesque de réduction des consommations énergétiques.
Dans cette optique, la conférence neZEH 2015 a pour objectifs de :
- Présenter les questions et défis posés par l’initiative « Hôtels presque zéro énergie », avec une
attention particulière sur la manière dont l’innovation énergétique dans le secteur hôtelier
peut contribuer aux objectifs européens et internationaux de lutte contre les changements
climatiques
- Inspirer et inciter la démultiplication des meilleures pratiques en présentant des exemples
pertinents et en démontrant la faisabilité et les avantages « d’Hôtels Presque Zéro Energie »
- Echanger sur les opportunités d’action à saisir par les hôteliers, telles que les outils financiers
et les mécanismes de soutien
- Souligner le potentiel des politiques « Bâtiments Presque Zéro Energie » pour faciliter la
transition vers des villes et un tourisme durables
- Mettre en valeur les opportunités commerciales associées aux stratégies de durabilité, dans
un contexte de prise de conscience croissante de la clientèle.
