Pool Renovation Which daily activity program is most important to Lake Gree- ley Camp? That is a question we often discuss in the Winter Office and, quite honestly, it is a question that is very difficult to answer. In fact, each year we ask our campers for their help in answering this question, when we ask in the Camper Questionnaire, what is their most favorite activity. It is obvious that without athletic fields, it would be very difficult to offer soccer, lacrosse, or softball. Circus Arts, Performing Arts, the Skate Park, and Horseback Riding are all extremely popular activities. But, perhaps the activity pro- gram that is most integral to the operation of Lake Greeley Camp is our aquatic program. Together, Lake Activities and Pool, are the most popular activities at camp. Could you imagine a summer camp without a lake or pool? This spring, we will begin a muilti-year renovation project of the swimming pool. Despite regular maintenance and clean- ing, after 20 summers of faithful service, it is unfor- tunately beginning to show signs of its age. Phase 1 of the renova- tion project will begin with the removal of the existing skimmer housings, pool coping, and waterline tile. Before the new skimmers, coping, and tile are installed, Happy New Year! Wow, where did 2014 go? The Winter Reunion is by far the most anticipated off-season camp event of the year. Coming together as a camp after months of being apart is exhila-rating for everyone; campers, staff members, and parents. Simply put, it is amazing. To say we have made it even better is a bold statement. Well, we made it better! This year’s reunion will be held on January 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at a new location: Sportime USA.Located in Elmsford, New York, Sportime USA is an indoor amusement center that is huge, 50,000 sq. ft., that’s nearly twice the size of the gymnasium at camp, it’s filled wall-to-wall with games and amusements that will make your mouth drool, and the whole place has been reserved exclusively for Lake Greeley Camp. That’s right, all that Sportime USA has to offer is ours for the entire three hours!

During the reunion we have unlimited use of:• amusement rides: bumper cars, Himalaya roller coaster, and mini-twister• Lasertron laser tag - 3,000 sq. ft. glow-in-the-dark arena• 24 ft. climbing wall• batting cages• 3 level indoor playground filled with slides, climbing mazes,

and ball pits• 150 arcade games - each camper gets an unlimited use

arcade card• XD Theater - a 4 dimensional interactive ride

There is so much more to this reunion than just fun and games. It is a great opportunity to get together with your friends from the summer, catch up on what’s been happening since the end of camp and reminisce about the great times we shared this past summer. We’ll be serving bagels, donuts, and juice in our party room throughout the reunion, present a slide show of pictures we’ve taken from last summer, and even hold a Lucky Lotto raffle drawing. It’s guaranteed FUN!For more information on Sportime USA including driving directions, visit their website at www.sportimeusa.com.There’s no charge to attend the winter reunion, and it is open to Lake Greeley Camp campers from previous summers and new campers who are enrolled for the 2015 summer, their siblings and, of course, parents.Lake Greeley Camp staff members will be present at Sportime USA during the reunion. We, however, recommend that a par-ent or adult guardian accompany all campers to the reunion and remain at Sportime USA. Parents can relax and enjoy a coffee and free Wi-Fi in the adult’s lounge inside Sportime USA. We’ll make sure you get a raffle ticket too!Registration for the winter reunion is required. You can regis-ter two ways: online directly from the Lake Greeley Camp’s Winter Reunion webpage at www.lakegreeley.com/about/winter.html or you can download the registration form at www.lakegreeley.com/forms/reunionregistration.pdf. significant work is required including pressure testing water lines, removing old mortar, and repairing any cracks in the shell of the pool.We will then move onto the plaster finish. In order to ensure a clean, bondable surface before applying the plaster, con-tractors will utilize highly pres-surized water that will blast the walls and floor of the pool. The plaster finish will then be hand troweled, completing the resurfacing application. The final task of Phase 1 is to overhaul the pool filtration system. Maintaining filters that work efficiently are essen-tial to keeping the pool water clean. The filtration system uses three 36 inch sand filters. Contractors will replace the sand and gravel in each filter and inspect and replace, if necessary, internal components to ensure even water distribution.Phase 2 of the renovation project is scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2016. It will include the construction of a new pool house and the replacement of the concrete pool deck and pool fence.Even before we get to Phase 2, once we get finished with Phase 1, we’ll bascially have a brand new pool! Look for pictures in upcoming issues of “The Spirit”.
