WHAT DO WE ASK OF PARENTS WHILE ON SCHOOL GROUNDS?

Schools are protected by law, as inclosed lands, and as such a certain standard of behaviour is required of students, staff and parents while on site. We ask that:

1. Parents/Carers use appropriate language towards students, staff and other parents/carers.

2. Remain calm and refrain from aggressive, abusive, threatening and harassing behaviour.

3. Refrain from approaching students, other than your own child, over matters that may have occurred involving yourself or your child as it is the school’s responsibility to do this.

4. Refrain from interrupting the learning environment of the classroom.

5. Collect your child promptly from school.

Failure to do so can result in the issuing of the ‘Inclosed Lands Act’ or the ‘Crimes Amendment Act’, both of which involve a ban on you entering the premises at any time and/or a heavy fine or sentence.

First Holy Communion 2018 INFORMATION MEETINGS

ALL SAINTS CHURCH – GREALY CENTRE (lower level of All Saints Church)

19 College Avenue SHELLHARBOUR CITY (next to Civic Video)

WEDNESDAY 7th MARCH 7:30pm

SUNDAY 11th MARCH 10:15am (after 9.00am Mass)

Dear Parents,

“God is the giver of all life, human and divine. May He bless the father of this child. He and his wife will be the first teachers of their child in the ways of the faith. May they be also the best of teachers, bearing witness to the faith by what they say and do, in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

(From the blessing of parents at your child’s Baptism Ceremony.)

The Law of The Church says: “For Holy Communion to be administered to children it

is required that they have sufficient knowledge and be carefully prepared, so that according

to their capacity they understand what the mystery of Christ means, and are able to receive

the Body of the Lord with faith and devotion” (Canon 9:3~1)

It is primarily the duty of parents and of those who take their place, as it is the duty of the parish

priest, to ensure that children who have reached the use of reason are properly prepared, and

having made their sacramental confession, are nourished by this divine food as soon as possible. It

is also the duty of the parish priest to see that children who have not reached the use of reason, or

whom he has judged to be insufficiently disposed, do not come to Holy Communion. (Canon 914)

In All Saints Parish Shellharbour City Parish, we use a Holy Communion Programme called Partners. The aim of the Partners programme is: (1) To assist you to be both the first and the best of teachers.

(2) That your child understands the mystery of Christ according to his/her capacity, and is able to receive the Body of Christ with faith and devotion.

Parishioners of this Parish whose child is in Year 3 or older and who wish to present their child for his/her First Holy Communion this year, need to attend one of the First Holy Communion information Meetings in March. These meetings are for parents; your child’s attendance is not required. At the Information Meeting you will get details of the programme, some discussion on a child’s

readiness for the Sacraments, a Time Table, and Enrolment Forms. I can’t emphasise too much how important it is for parents to attend this meeting; the information meeting is really the beginning of our First Holy Communion Programme. Parishioners of other Parishes e.g. Albion Park, should contact their own parish about First Holy Communion.

Attendance at religion classes in either Catholic or State Schools is very helpful, but is not, of itself, preparation for the reception of First Holy Communion.

Yours in Christ Jesus, 19 College Avenue Shellharbour City NSW 2529 Phone: 4296 3939 Fr. Bryan Jones Email: [email protected] Parish Priest Web: www.allsaintscatholic.org.au
