Common Core State StandardsFormally Adopted by 45 States English and Mathematics curriculum standards Anchor Standards for ALL subjects that focus on Literacy and Writing Resources available for Parents on LNHS web site (Parents, Resources, Curriculum)

English Required all 4 years for graduationWe offer academic and honors sections in all grades and AP in 11th and 12th gradeCommon Core State Standards Emphasis on Informational Text Emphasis on writing with evidence from textsThere will be a state test given in tenth grade. Math4 mathematics courses are required for graduation (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 OR Integrated 1, 2, 3 plus another course)Movement toward discovery learning With the anchor standards, students will be required to do more writing. They will be asked to explain their thinking and write it down.

Science With the anchor standards, parents and students can expect to see more text-based exploration into science. National Geographic, Scientific American, etc.NC adopted new NC Essential Standards, which are vertically aligned K through 12. Students are responsible for retaining information from year to year. 3 sciences required for graduation

Social Studies For current sophomores, juniors, and seniors: 3 credits required for graduation (World History, U.S. History, and Civics and Economics) For current freshmen: 4 credits required for graduation (World History, American History I, American History II, and Civics and Economics.)Anchor standards will be used to gauge students reasoning skills.Students will explore informational texts and use critical thinking skills to explain ideas.

World LanguagesFor college application/acceptance, students need two semesters of the same foreign language. Recommended to take as many levels as possible. Avoid leaving years in between foreign language courses. LNHS ART CURRICULUM TRACKVisual Art Academy Graduate: 2.5 Min. GPA for Admission: Completed Application (including signed learning agreement, parent agreement, and curriculum overview, and Mini-Essay), Copy of High School transcript (from Homeroom Teacher), Two Completed Teacher Recommendation Forms Earns 6 Art Points to graduate from (AFA,VADA) with Honor Cord Maintains 90 and above average in each Art Class to maintain (AFA, VADA) statusThe Visual Art and Design Academy, VADA at LNHS, is structured as a school-within-a-school or small learning community for approximately 60 students with a passion for visual art. The goal of this 3 year experience is to integrate academics with high rigor art classes to prepare confident and competitive 21st Century learners for college, career, and post-secondary education. Classes that college, career, and post-secondary education. Classes that are not offered at LNHS may be found at Iredell-Statesvilles Magnet School, (VPAC).

Physical Education 1 credit of Health and PE required for graduation Fitness Gram program that helps to measure cardiovascular fitness Implementation of Common Core Anchor Standards includes writing, specifically explaining how skills learned applies to students personally Career and Technical EducationLNHS offers courses in Business, Marketing, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences, Digital Media, Drafting, Auto Tech and Agriculture.Students can continue to take advanced courses in Allied Health, Digital Media, ProStart (Culinary Studies), Auto Tech, Nursing, and Fire Fighter Technology.Common Core Anchor Standard implementation can be seen in regular assessments using open-ended written responses. Photo Release FormNew form required by our school board To use photo in any school platform (including yearbook, newspaper, web site, etc.), we must have signature Separate signature for use of name. If we have a signature for photo but not name, a students photo will appear in the yearbook but not his/her name.
