Lakes Entrance is situated on the Gippsland Lakes and Ninety Mile Beach. It’s near here that the Gippsland Lakes – Australia’s largest inland network of waterways - meet the Southern Ocean. Our 4 day “stayput” tour at Lakes Entrance is an ideal way to experience some of the beauty of East Gippsland.

************************************************************************** Day 1 (LD): CANBERRA TO LAKES ENTRANCE: Monday 6 February 2017 Welcome to our 4 day tour to Lakes Entrance. This morning we make our way south via Cooma and Bombala and onto our lunch stop at Cann River. This afternoon we leave the highway to drive via Cape Conran and Marlo, enjoying some great views along the spectacular coastline. We then make our way through to our destination of Lakes Entrance. Upon arrival we check into our motel for the next 3 nights and settle in for dinner.

The Esplanade Motel, Lakes Entrance (ph 03 5155 1933) Day 2 (BLD): LOCAL TOURING: Tuesday 7 February 2017 We are joined by a local guide following breakfast this morning. Later we head across to Wyanga Park Winery. Overlooking the North Arm at Lakes Entrance, it is the oldest vineyard in East Gippsland. After a pleasant lunch we visit another very special place, the Nyerimilang Heritage Park – a lakeside homestead that was used in the late 1800s as a base for fishing and shooting holidays. Today, the homestead is protected by the National Trust and features a display on the history of Nyerimilang and the natural resources and history of the Gippsland Lakes. The semi formal garden and lawns, with views to the water, contain an interesting collection of exotic and native species. From here we return to our motel with plenty of time to relax prior to dinner.

Day 3 (BLD): BAIRNSDALE & PAYNESVILLE: Wednesday 8 February 2017 Nearby Bairnsdale is an idyllic garden town with many reminders of the booming gold rush days. Some of Bairnsdale's architecture is also of interest. The most striking building in the town is the Court House in Nicholson Street which was opened in 1894. It is recognized as one of Victoria's finest examples of late 19th century architecture and is considered of some significance to the development of an Australian style. We also visit St Mary’s Catholic Church to see the murals on the ceilings and walls of the church, which are quite stunning! We now head to Newlands Arm and to the home of Hans and Trudy Kosmer. We will be greeted by the Kosmers and welcomed into their home for a home hosted lunch and warm hospitality. Hans is a horticultural scientist and has one acre of garden to wander through. This afternoon we head to the Paynesville jetty where we join a cruise taking us through the East Gippsland waterways. We’ll enjoy the sights and commentary as we make our way back to Lakes Entrance. Upon reaching the dock, our coach will be there to meet us for our transfer back to the motel.

The Esplanade Motel, Lakes Entrance (ph 03 5155 1933) Day 4 (BL): LAKES ENTRANCE TO CANBERRA: Thursday 9 February 2017 We farewell our hosts this morning and begin our journey home. Departing Lakes Entrance we head into Orbost where we visit the Orbost Exhibition Centre. The centre is located on the Snowy River and surrounded by beautiful Forest Park. The exhibition is all about timber including the National Collection of Wood Design which is on permanent display. Designed on several levels we have time to enjoy a retail showroom, a gallery for professional artists and a top level for views over the Forest Park. Continuing on we’ll break for lunch at the Bombala RSL Club then express back to Canberra. We arrive later this afternoon having had a wonderful 4 day tour to Lakes Entrance.
