It’s Annan-dale’s Homecom-ing and they arehosting a long-time rival, theGlencoe-Si lverLake Panthers. The Cardinals comeinto tonight’s game with a 4-0record, with victories over Prince-ton, Little Falls, Milaca and Foley. The Panthers come into the gamewith a 2-2 record.
Their two wins were againstHoly Family (42-8) and Dassel-Cokato (21-13). The two losseswere against Litchfield (14-34) andWatertown-Mayer (10-28).
It should be pointed out thattheir loss to Watertown-Mayer wasprobably due to several startingplayers not eligible to play in thatgame. Most notably, junior MitchelJaskowiak, the Panthers’ standoutrunning back No. 2. Jaskowiak, Inthe first three games of the season(he did not play last week), averaged190.7 yards per game, 570 total
yards, 7.5 yards per carry and 8touchdowns.
“They are a lot like us, they arebig up front, run the ball well andplay great defense,” Walter said. ”Itwill be a great challenge and we'relooking forward to it.
I have been covering Cardinalfootball since 2012, the Cardinalsrecord against G-SL in those eightseasons is 2-6. They have always
been great games. My most vivid loss to the Pan-
thers was in 2015 in a game theCards lost 13-40 that took fourhours to complete. With 4:50 toplay in the third quarter and theCards only down by one, 14-13, thegame was suspended for two hourswhen the official spotted lightningto the west. Before the game delay, the Cards were taking it to the Pan-
thers.“In our last drive, their defensive
players were really tired,” saidCoach Matt Walter after thegame.”Several of them were throw-ing up water between plays andresting with their hands on theirknees. Our kids were playing confi-dently. It was electric on the field.”
When the Cards were ready tokick off after a touchdown, that iswhen the game was suspended.Somewhere in the following twohours, the momentum the Cardi-nals enjoyed was lost.Next week
Next Friday, Nov. 13, the Cardswill travel to Dassel-Cokato HighSchool for the final game of
the 6-game modified COVID-19 season. The Chargers are playingthe Watertown-Mayer Royals
Saturday, Nov. 7, going into thatgame with a 2-2 record.
Cardinal fans will remember the2019 semi-final Minnesota FootballState Tournament when the Charg-ers defeated the Cards 24-14 at theU.S, Bank Stadium in a game thatwould have been a nice to win.
