Turkey Donations

Thank you to Brander Properties for donating 3

turkeys and 3 hams. Also, thanks to the Gutek, McLaughlan, Sadler and

Brander families for donating turkeys for our Friendship Feast. As well,

thanks to the Beck family who donated $20 to our Friendship Feast and to the

Spencer and Groenewegen families for the ham donations.

When reading with a beginner reader, it’s important to do the following:

Give them time to read. Reading is a skill, and like many other skills, it takes time to develop. A beginner reader should spend 20 minutes a day reading to or with someone. The books read during this time should be relatively easy and at their reading level.

Let them reread the same books. Rereading the same words over and over again helps build fluency. Overtime, you’ll notice that your child will stop less often to figure out unknown words.

Take turns reading. By listening to your fluent reading, your child will hear what good readers sound like. After you have read a short passage, ask your child to reread the same passage. This provides a chance for him/her to practice read-ing with expression.

Your child has been taught specific strategies to use when he/she is reading. Ask your child to explain the strategies he/she is using at school.

Visit www.readingrockets.org for more information on how you can launch

your child into a bright future through reading.

OurSchool Parent Survey Just a reminder regarding the letter sent home in November explaining OurSchool Parent Survey:

Lakeview Elementary will be participating in an online school survey for parents and guardi-ans called the OurSCHOOL Parent Survey. We invite you to review the information below, and complete the survey using the login information provided. The OurSCHOOL Parent Survey gives you the chance to provide your feedback anony-mously into school initiatives. It ’s voluntary, but we encourage you to participate, so we get a better understanding how you feel the school supports learning, positive behaviour and promotes a safe and inclusive environment. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and must be completed in one sit-ting. For more information about the OurSCHOOL Parent Survey, please visit The Learning Bar Inc.’s website: www.thelearningbar.com. To access the survey, go to www.ourschool.net/686r8
