Mount Kelly is a private, independent school, which was built in 1877. It is located on the outskirts of the market town of Tavistock, in the south west of England, on the very edge of Dartmoor, one of the most famous National Parks in the UK. The main school is a stunning sight set in vast, beautiful grounds.

• For information on students who do not fall within this age range, please ask to see the Young Learner Age Range Policy.• Students who want to stay more than 2 weeks but want to do one of the specialist courses can book Classic or another
specialist course.
TRANSFERSArrivals and departures are on Wednesdays only.
See our Price List or your Group Quote for exact arrival and departure times.
Price includes accompanied transfer to and from London Heathrow* with the arrival and departure times listed in the Price List or group quote. Transfers outside of these times and dates are subject to an additional cost.
Transfers may involve a waiting time of up to two hours after students have cleared immigration.
*Gatwick, Luton, St Pancras, London City and Stansted arrivals and departures incur a supplement charge and are usually transferred via Heathrow which may incur additional waiting time.
Transfers from other airports are available upon request and additional costs will be charged.

• Students tested online for written and on-site for oral skills
• Students tested at the end of their course to check for progress

RESIDENCE• 4 residential blocks available
• Shared rooms from 2 to 6 beds
• Shared bathrooms
• Minimum ratio WC/bath/shower 1:8 students (ratio varies
between accommodation houses)
• Common rooms, some with indoor games
• Entry to residence by security code only
• Blocks or floors arranged as single sex Male staff/group leaders are not allowed to enter female houses without a female staff member accompanying them except in emergency situations

SECURITY, DEPOSIT & KEYS• Code entry to block
• Damage Deposit of £60 or €80 on arrival
• This will be returned to the student only upon departure
LAUNDRY• Weekly free laundry service (supervised self-service and
limited load)• N.B. LAL takes no responsibility for any damage, shrinkage or
colour run to clothing
STAFF & ROOM ALLOCATION• All residential accommodation is staffed overnight by
LAL staff
• Entry to residence under adult supervision only
• Students allocated according to sharing preferences sent in advance
• Advance rooming and sharing requests cannot be guaranteed
• Where no preference has been sent, we reserve the right to allocate according to our room allocation policy, which includes sharing with students from other nationalities
WELFARE INFORMATION• Bed-time/curfew is at 22.30 and lights out at
23.00
• Wake-up is at 07.30
• All bedding provided by the school
• Towels are NOT provided
• LAL Welfare & Consent Form required in advance (forms.lalschools.com)
• N.B. LAL Summer Schools are not responsible for the loss or theft of students’ property. LAL Summer Schools will provide a secure, lockable place for students’ property in their room. Please bring a small padlock and TWO keys. Students are advised to NOT bring laptops or other expensive items. Valuable items can always be left in the LAL office.
CATERING • One large dining hall
• Fresh food, sourced from local suppliers and farmers
• Choice of main course (meat, fish and vegetarian)
• Salad bar, cooked vegetables, water and soft drinks, choice of dessert
• Rota system with two sittings for each meal
• Packed meals will be provided for excursions Packed meals comprise a sandwich, drink (water or juice), snack (muffin, muesli bar, chocolate bar or doughnut), packet of crisps and piece of fruit.
• Food offered on arrival and departure days When the kitchen is closed we provide cold food on arrival, similar to the boxed lunch. On departure, a packed breakfast or lunch or dinner will be supplied, in addition to any cooked meals taken on-site, depending on the departing flight time. Only one packed meal supplied on departure.

Please note that academic options, specialist courses and optional excursions take place during the regular LAL programme. Students will miss some regular activities, but we take care to ensure that none of the ‘big’ weekly activities are missed.
Please note that booking one of the Action courses may mean that you cannot book an academic upgrade. Please check before booking.
Optional excursions available on Sundays and can be booked in advance or on arrival at the school, subject to availability and minimum numbers.
PLYMOUTH & LOOE Visit the famous port of Plymouth, departure point of the Mayflower and other famous ships. Then on to Looe, a working fishing harbour which dates back to 1201. Packed meal included. This excursion is approximately 9 hours of which up to 2 hours is travel time. Transport provided between the two destinations.

ST IVES Take a trip to Cornwall to see the cobbled streets and turquoise bay of St Ives, including a visit to Tate St Ives. Enjoy an ice cream in the centre of Cornwall’s arts scene, overlooking the once-busy fishing harbour. Packed meal and ice cream included. Excursion approximately 9 hours of which up to 4 hours is travel time. 4 week students only.

CHEDDAR GORGE Visit England’s largest gorge with beautiful caves 1.4m underground. The day includes a guided tour of Gough’s Cave, The Museum of Prehistory, Jacob’s Ladder and the Lookout Tower - perfect for young adventurers! Packed meal included. This excursion is approximately 9 hours of which up to 4 hours is travel time.

EDEN PROJECT Visit the unique eco-experience that is the Eden Project.This excursion is approximately 9 hours of which up to 3 hours is travel time. This trip if for 3 and 4 week students only.
WOODLANDS Visit one of the UKs biggest indoor adventure centres! They also have a zoo, and a wildlife sanctuary. All weather fun guaranteed.Packed meal included. This excursion is approximately 8 hours of which up to 2 hours is travel time. You will be home in time dinner. This is for long stay students only. There are some minimum height restrictions for some rides.
TORQUAY & SPLASHDOWN Explore Torquay in the English Riviera and experience a traditional seaside town. Then have fun at the UK’s largest outdoor waterpark, Splashdown. Packed meal included. This excursion is approximately 9 hours of which up to 4 hours is travel time. Students will need to be able to swim.
DARTMOOR ZOO Visit the famous zoo on Dartmoor, subject of the movie We Bought a Zoo, starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson. You will see a variety of animals from big cats to reptiles and birds. This excursion is approximately 5.5 hours of which up to 1.5 hours is travel time. This excursion is for 3 and 4 week students only.

BUDE Visit the popular seaside resort in North Cornwall. A great place to relax and have fun with new friends on the golden sandy beaches, fantastic for surfing or a nice walk along the rugged coastline. This excursion is approximately 5 hours of which up to 2 hours is travel time.

EXETER Discover the picturesque and vibrant city in Devon, with its magnificent cathedral. The visit will include a walking tour of major sights and free time to explore this city steeped in history or for some shopping.This excursion is approximately 5 hours of which up to 2 hours is travel time. You will be home in time for dinner.
BIGBURY Visit the beach with your new friends. Bigbury is a beautiful, small English seaside town with a friendly atmosphere and golden sands.This excursion is approximately 5 hours of which up to 2.5 hours is travel time. You will be home in time for dinner. This excursion is for 4 week students only.
TINTAGELSee the iconic ruins said to be King Arthur’s castle, full of history and legends. Enjoy the fantastic ocean views and stunning scenery.Packed meal included. This excursion is approximately 9 hours of which up to 3 hours is travel time. You will be home in time for dinner. This is for long stay students only.

SURFINGEnjoy some outdoor fun and learn how to catch some waves with a surfing lesson in Bigbury. When the lesson has finished students have time to explore this beautiful coastal town.This excursion is approximately 4 hours of which up to 2 hours is travel time. 1 instructor to 8 students. Lesson duration 45 minutes.
HORSE RIDINGStudents are introduced to horse riding and taught the skills required before taking the reins and riding on picturesque Dartmoor with a qualified guide.
This excursion is approximately 4 hours of which up to 2 hours is travel time. Appropriate clothing required Lesson duration 1 hour, with 15 mins induction.

ADVENTURE CENTRETake advantage of Tavistock’s excellent adventure centre and try your hand at either high ropes, tree climbing and archery or kayaking and raft building. This excursion is approximately 3 hours. The session will either be: kayaking and raft building or high ropes, archery and tree climbing depending on the date of activity.
