• Located  at  the  edge  of  the  Big  Horn  Mountains,  there  are  5  family  medicine  physicians  in  this  group  who  also  cover  the  ED.    This  is  also  a  rural  surgery  selective  site.  

Torrington,  WY  –  Marion  Smith,  MD  –  307-­‐532-­‐4131  • This  is  a  large  Eastern  Wyoming  family  medicine  clinic  with  

opportunities  at  the  hospital  and  adjoining  nursing  home.  Cheyenne,  WY  –  UW  FM  Residency,  Doug  Parks,  MD  –  307-­‐777-­‐7911  

• This  is  a  family  medicine  residency  with  16  faculty  members  and  24  residents.  They  operate  a  rural  clinic  in  Pine  Bluffs.  There  are  also  OB/Gyn,  pediatric  and  psychaitry  clerkships  in  Cheyenne.

• Located  near  the  Grand  Tetons  and  Yellowstone  National  Park,  you  work  with  3  internists  in  Jackson  and  surrounding  communities.    There  is  also  a  pediatric  clerkship  in  Jackson.  

Sheridan,  WY  –  Wendell  Robison,  MD  –  307-­‐672-­‐1606  • Located  at  the  VA  hospital  in  Sheridan  there  are  also  opportunities  

to  work  with  internists  in  town  -­‐  lots  of  hands-­‐on  outpatient  and  inpatient  opportunities.  This  site  takes  2  students  per  rotation  and  is  located  40  miles  north  of  Buffalo  at  the  edge  of  the  Big  Horn  Mountains.  

Douglas,  WY  –  John  Thalken,  MD  &  James  Morgan,  MD  -­‐  307-­‐359-­‐0905  • There  are  2  internists  in  Douglas  who  also  act  as  hospitalists.    

Douglas,  the  jackalope  capitol  of  the  world,  is  located  on  the  North  Platte  River  approximately  45  miles  East  of  Casper,  WY.  

Lander,  WY  –  Justin  Hopkin,  MD      • This  site  will  take  1  student  per  year  as  they  share  housing  with  the  

WRITE  site  OBGYN  Rock  Springs,  WY  –  Amr  Etman,  MD  –  307-­‐362-­‐1861  

• Two  OB/Gyn  physicians  take  2  students  per  available  rotation  in  the  fall  and  winter  only.  Lots  of  great  opportunities  to  assist  in  and  perform  deliveries.  

• Peter  Allyn,  MD  –  Sweetwater  Memorial  Hospital  also  takes  a  student  per  rotation.    This  is  a  hospital  based  experience.  

Cheyenne,  WY  –  Mary  Ellen  Foley,  MD  –  307-­‐634-­‐5216  • This  is  a  large  group  of  physicians  with  opportunities  for  deliveries  

and  Gyn  surgery.    Housing  is  across  the  street  from  the  hospital.    Pediatrics  and  family  medicine  clerkships  are  also  in  Cheyenne.  

Lander,  WY  –  Jan  Siebersma,  MD  –  307-­‐438-­‐1607  • This  site  will  take  2-­‐3  students  per  year  as  they  share  housing  with

• This  site  has  two  separate  practices  that  work  together  to  give  the  student  in  depth  experience  in  both  OB  and  Gyn.

400  deliveries  a  year.

• Wyoming  Behavioral  Institute  is  an  outpatient  and  residential  facility  for  adult  and  child  psychiatry.  Each  rotation  takes  2  students.  There  are  also  surgery  and  EM  clerkships  in  Casper.  

Cheyenne,  WY  –  Abhishek  Mehra,  MD  –  307-­‐633-­‐7382  • Wyoming  Behavioral  Institute  –  CRMC  is  an  outpatient  

and  residential  facility  for  adult  psychiatry.    Outpatient  child  psychiatry  seen  as  well.    There  are  also  FM,  OB/GYN  and  Peds  in  Cheyenne.  

Surgery  Casper,  WY  –  Jim  Anderson,  MD  –  307-­‐577-­‐4220  

• Group  of  four  surgeons  -­‐  this  is  a  very  fast  paced  practice  with  lots  of  hands  on  experience  -­‐  one  student  per  rotation.    There  are  also  psychiatry  and  ED  clerkships  in  Casper.  

Sheridan,  WY  –  Sara  Smith,  MD    • Group  of  three  surgeons  –  Excellent  learning  

opportunities  –  There  is  an  IM  clerkship  at  the  VA.    

Pediatrics  Cheyenne,  WY  –  Katarzyna  Zarzycki,  MD    &  –  307-­‐635-­‐7961  

• Group  of  9  pediatricians  –  the  clinic  adjoins  the  hospital  for  ease  of  seeing  pediatric  and  level  II  nursery  patients.    Housing  is  across  the  street  from  the  hospital.    There  are  also  FM,  OBGYN  and  Psychiatry  clerkships  in  Cheyenne.  

Jackson,  WY  –  Travis  Ridell,  MD  –  307-­‐733-­‐4627  • There  are  5  pediatricians  in  this  clinic  located  near  the  

hospital  with  a  1.5  level  newborn  nursery.    They  see  a  broad  range  of  general  outpatient  rural  pediatrics,  and  an  average  of  15-­‐20  patients  per  day  per  physician.    There  is  also  an  IM  clerkship  in  Jackson.

• The  ED  has  34,000  visits/year  with  a  dedicated  flight  program.    Casper  has  the  only  family  medicine  residency  in  WY  with  an  emergency  medicine  track.      There  is  a  compliment  of  specialists  including  invasive/interventional  cardiology,  radiology  and  neurosurgery.  

Cheyenne,  WY  –  Dan  Surdam,  MD  –  New  clerkship  beginning  summer  2015.  Neurology  Casper,  WY  –  David  Wheeler,  MD    

• Two  neurologists  with  busy  and  varied  practice.    Surgery  Selectives  

Rural  Surgery  Buffalo,  WY  –  Blaine  Ruby,  MD  –  307-­‐684-­‐6264  

• This  WWAMI  graduate  practices  classic  rural  surgery  with  a  wide  variety  of  cases  and  procedures  including  trauma.    Students  function  as  1st  assist  on  most  procedures.    

Riverton,  WY  –  Dennis  Lewis,  MD  –  307-­‐687-­‐5220  • This  is  a  small  town  setting  where  the  surgeons  

truly  practice  “general”  surgery.    One  surgeon  practices  in  Lander,  25  miles  away.    Lander  is  also  a  WRITE  Site.    Experience  includes  ENT,  urology  and  gastroenterology.  

Cody/Powell,  WY  –  Nathan  Rieb,  MD-­‐  307-­‐754-­‐7257  • The  two  communities  have  four  general  

surgeons,  one  orthopedic  surgeon  and  a  vascular  surgeon.    You  will  get  ED  experience  as  well  with  the  on  call  surgeon.    Cody  and  Powell  are  24  miles  apart  and  located  near  the  east  entrance  of  Yellowstone  National  Park.  

Gillette,  WY  –  Rodney  Biggs,  MD    Cheyenne,  WY  –  Otolaryngology  Head  and  Neck  Surgery    

Paul  Johnson,  MD    Rock  Springs,  WY  –  Augusto  Jamias,  MD    

Orthopaedic  Surgery  Jackson,  WY  -­‐    David  Khoury,  MD  -­‐  307-­‐733-­‐3900  

• This  is  a  multispecialty  practice  allowing  for  a  broad  clinic  and  surgical  experience.  Physicians  cover  every  aspect  of  orthopedics  including  spine,  sports  medicine,  shoulder  and  elbow,  hand  and  foot.  

 Wyoming  Rural  Clinical  Experience  

(Wyoming  Track)  • Students  complete  at  least  four  of  their  3rd  year  

clinical  rotations  in  Wyoming.  • At  least  one  of  the  clerkships  must  take  place  in  

a  rural  Wyoming  site  other  than  Casper  or  Cheyenne.  

• All  UWSOM  students  are  encouraged  to  participate  in  the  program.  

• A  maximum  of  six  students  per  year  may  participate.  

• A  dislocation  allowance  of  $2000  per  year  will  be  paid  to  each  student.
