Sound Water Management Guidelines When Irrigating With A Dripline Grid System (inSpanish)

TRACK: Spanish LanguageTIME: Noon - 3:30 p.m., Wed Feb. 3PRESENTER: Toni Monzon M. S.Bilingual Training InstituteCEU: 3.5 CLT, 3.5 IA approval pendingPRICE: $20Register for this seminar at www.clca.org/lis/badge

There are marked differences in the manner in which water moves in the soil when irrigatingwith overhead sprinklers versus a drip emitter. When water is applied very slowly, directly tothe soil, it spreads by unsaturated flow, resulting in constant soil oxygenation and theformation of specific wetted patterns. When scheduling the irrigation, it is crucial to favor thedevelopment of large wetted areas below the soil surface to encourage roots to reach deepinto the soil. Therefore, irrigation frequency needs to be adjusted so that water can reachout to its maximum radius. This will also aid in preventing root intrusion in the emitters andsalt toxicity in the plant’s root zone. Class taught in Spanish.
