Theme or focus of images We can see that these pictures are fairly similar to each other, each of them are very wildlife based, and each of them are taken in a forest or wooded area. This shows that this photographer likes this style of landscape photography and also likes photography surrounding wildlife, or natural forest or wooded areas. In all of these images we can see lots of trees and grass in the frame.

In all of these images, they are taken in large a forest or wooded area. We can see that the size of the forest must be fairly large as in all of these images we cannot see the end or anything else apart from that wooded area. All of these images can be found quite relaxing and tranquil, as not much action is going on within the frame. However, in images 1 and 4 the image is filled with fog or mist, which makes these images quite mysterious, especially in image 1 and the fog is very thick, so thick we can barely see through it. I think this fog can also create a sense of the unknown, as we cannot see past the trees and all that is visible is the fog. This could also create a fear of the unknown, because we are unaware of what could possibly be in the forest or around us because we cannot see. I think Image 1 also creates a feeling of being alone in the woods, because we cant see anyone else in this image, which could be viewed as quite scary again.

In images 1 and 4, the images feel quite cold because not much colour is involved in

these images. However, in images 2 and 3, particularly 3 much more colour is in the image and definitely feels warmer and more summer like. I think the reason some of this photographers images are different is because he may like taking pictures from different styles, but still with some similarities. Like in image 1 and 4 they are very mysterious, where as 2 and 3 are much more sunny and peaceful. But they are all in a wooded area, with nature surrounding them.

CompositionIn images 1, 2 and 4 the main focus point is the tree that is closest to us, so I think the photographer chose in these images to find what he wanted to be the focus point and then include as much nature and trees, as possible. In image 4, one of the main focus points is the lake and how tranquil it looks, so I think the photographer knew he wanted the lake to be a big part of the image and then looked for what surrounding nature looked the best with the lake.

However in images 2 and 4 (mainly image 2) one of the things included which is a very strong focus point of the image is the sun rays coming down through the trees. I think the photographer knew he wanted to include as much of those rays as possible in image 2 and as we can see he got quite close to the ground so he could get as much of those rays included as possible.

Techniques usedIn Image 1, we see a very clear use of depth of field. The tree closest is in complete strong focus and slowly the background behind the tree gets more and more blurred out.

I think a fast shutter speed would have been used on image 3 because the photographer probably would have had to take many shots of the horses as he could before getting one where they were stood in the position he wanted. However in the other images, I think he could have used any shutter speed because there isn’t any quick action going on in these images to capture quickly.

Strengths & WeaknessesA strength would be the use of the fog in images 1 and 4 because I like the sense of mystery it gives the image. Another strength would be I love how all of these images are very natural and all taken in forested areas, I think they are filled with natural beauty, which to me is a strength.A weakness would be that I think in images 1 and 4, a bit more colour could have been involved. Not as much as in image 3 but a bit more so we could see the grass clearer and the colour of the leaves more clearly.
