ACT ONE

FADE IN:

INT. TOMB

The dark, shadowy tomb does not look like a place anyone would call home. Cobwebs hang from the ceiling, the walls have long cracks along them and the floor is stained with dried blood.

In steps LARA CROFT, looking ever the adventurer with her hair tied back in a ponytail and wearing a black top and shorts, with her holsters hanging at her waist.

She looks around, trying to make something out in the shadows of the room, but it’s near impossible. Reaching into a pocket on her belt, she pulls out a FLARE and lights it.

A dull green light is cast upon the room, removing all the shadows. Now we can see the room more clearly.

Along the walls are ancient carvings of gods and deities being given tributes by their followers. In each corner of the square room there is a DEITY STATUE.

There seems to be no exit except through the archway in which Lara is standing.

Lara scans the room quickly before heading further in. She scans the carvings on the wall, running one hand over them whilst moving the flare closer to brighten that area.

She continuously runs her hand over a carving of a particularly ferocious-looking deity with a lion mask on. After pausing, she prods the mask - and it sinks into the wall.

There’s a low RUMBLE before the entire wall splits in two, opening outwards - it’s a door!

Looking happy with herself, Lara walks through the door - only to pause. She looks over her shoulder, squinting into the darkness she left behind.

The flare flickers and dies. Lara is cast in darkness.

The only noise that can be heard is Lara’s heavy breathing and the fumbling of her fingers as she struggles with her belt.

There’s another low rumble and the door rolls SHUT behind her. Lara freezes, not moving a muscle. There’s a sudden CREAKING behind her. The sound of Lara’s breathing increases.

She takes a few steps forward - there’s a MOAN and another CREAK.

HISS! Lara strikes a flare, lightening up the area. It’s just a long corridor with the same carved walls.

But it’s what’s behind Lara that’s interesting. Slowly detaching themselves from the back of the door are two SKELETONS, their bones creaking as they reach out.

Lara stumbles back in surprise, but her hands quickly reach for her holstered guns - but they’ve disappeared!

The first skeleton breaks free from the door, but Lara’s already prepared and lands a ROUNDHOUSE KICK that, with a sickening CRUNCH, breaks the skeleton’s SKULL!

However, this doesn’t stop it and it still claws out towards Lara, even as the second skeleton breaks free.

The head-less skeleton grabs Lara with bony fingers and Lara twists her arm and pulls, TUGGING FREE the arm!

Lara rips the arm from her own arm and stamps on it on the floor, destroying it. However, the attack has cost her time and the second skeleton reaches for her, but she jumps back!

Eyes widening, Lara turns and runs. The skeletons hobble after her, reaching out and creaking with every step.

Lara rounds a corner - and suddenly finds herself on a balcony! The space below her landing is cast in pure darkness.

With a moment of hesitation Lara throws her flare down there. It drops about fifty feet before lighting up the floor below.

It all looks quiet down there.

And then she seems them - hundreds upon hundreds of SKELETONS, all reaching up and creaking as their bones grind against each other. The light woke them up.

Suddenly, the two skeletons catch up to Lara and she’s PUSHED over the edge, FALLING down into the crowd below!

Lara lets out a terrified SCREAM and just as she’s about to fall into their grasp -

KNOCK! KNOCK!

INT. CROFT MANOR - LARA’S BEDROOM - MORNING

She snaps up from her sleep, sweating like mad and looking completely terrified. She gasps for breath, looking around and wiping the sweat from her brow.

After she catches her breath, she sighs and collapses backwards onto her pillow. She’s still taking deep breaths. Shaking her head, she curses under her breath.

There’s another two knocks at the door. Lara glances over at it, and the faintest trace of a smile flickers across her features.

LARA(calling out)

Come in, Hilary.

The door opens and in enters HILARY, Lara’s butler, looking very immaculate in a suit and tie. In his hands he holds a breakfast tray.

After shutting the door with his elbow he walks over to Lara, who sits up in the bed and lowers it in front of her. Lara looks it over in delight.

HILARYToast, egg and baked beans with, of course, your personal favourite:Peruvian Coffee.

Lara takes up the coffee and breaths in some of the hot, delicious smell. She sighs and then smiles up at Hilary.

LARA(polite)

Thank you.

HILARYAnything else I can get you?

Lara shakes her head, taking a sip from the coffee and savoring the taste.

LARANo, that will be all. Thanks, Hilary.

HILARYMy pleasure, Lady Croft.

He offers a small bow before walking from the room and shutting the door behind him. Lara takes another sip of coffee, staring into the distance.

INT. CROFT MANOR - MAIN HALL - MORNING

The main hall of the manor is a grand room with a large staircase on the south-facing wall with a large gold-tinted glass window covering a large section of the wall above it.

On the opposite side of the room a glass wall separates this section from the rest of it. Inside is a ring of computer monitors and other gadgets - BRYCE’S OFFICE.

In between the staircase and the office are comfortable armchairs and tables stacked with books.

On the left-hand side there is a roaring fire in the FIREPLACE. Under the banister of the opposite side of the room, the large FRONT DOOR stands.

Hilary is seated in an armchair by the fireplace, his nose in a rather thick book. The fire reflects off his reading glasses.

BRYCE is seated in his office, busy working and switching between the monitors, rolling across the circle in his office chair.

Lara is walking down the banister, her hand brushing across the handrail. Hilary’s eyes flicker upwards as she enters the main hall. He places a bookmark in his book and stands.

HILARYAnything I can do for you, Lady Croft?

LARAPlease, Hilary, I’ve told you to call me Lara in the future.

HILARYYes, Lady Cro...

(beat)Lara.

Lara smiles, and starts to walk off towards Bryce’s office when Hilary lets out a little cough into his hand.

HILARY (CONT’D)Something arrived for you this morning.

Lara turns and steps towards Hilary as he picks up an ENVELOPE from the table. He hands it to her and also holds out a letter opener.

Disregarding the letter opener, Lara tears the top off the envelope and pulls the letter out from inside. She scans the letter and then smiles.

LARAIt’s from Alura. She’s back tomorrow.

HILARYAh. I’ll have her room set up again. Better clean out those storage boxes before she gets back.

LARA(wry)

Yes, I can’t imagine she’d like finding some of my dusty old trophies fogging up her room.

With a smile, Hilary walks off towards the staircase and out of sight. Lara sighs, running a hand through her long hair. She catches Bryce’s eye and smiles.

LARA (CONT’D)If you need me, I’ll be in the pool.

With a nod of his head, Bryce turns back to his walk, whilst Lara sighs once again before promptly walking towards one of the doors on the ground floor and leaving the main hall.

FADE TO:

INT. CROFT MANOR - POOL ROOM - MORNING

The pool room is a vast room with a glass ceiling and as the name suggests, a large pool with a diving board on one end near the door and deck chairs near the other end.

Lara, dressed in a fairly revealing bathing suit stands on the diving board. She takes a run and DIVES off, slipping under the water in one graceful motion as she begins to swim.

She does a full length before coming up to breathe. She flips her long wet hair over her head and over her shoulders. She’s about to slip under the water again -

When a quiet COUGH is heard from the doorway and Lara freezes, looking over. Hilary stands in the doorway, holding what appears to be a TROPHY SHIELD in his hands.

HILARYSorry to disturb you, Lady...

(beat; off her look)Lara, but I found this whilst clearing out your private stock, and I couldn’t help but wonder why it was incomplete, and if you wanted it left to the side for one of your, ah - adventures.

He holds up the shield to show Lara - four CRYSTAL STONES (RED, BLUE, YELLOW, PURPLE) have been slotted into places on it, but the fifth slot is empty.

Lara frowns and narrows her eyes at the object. Hilary notices and raises his eyebrows.

HILARY (CONT’D)Familiar?

LARAYes, very. That last slot was supposed to be filled be the “Crystal of Death”.

(beat)The only problem was that no-one’s ever been able to find it - me included. I looked about five years ago, when I found the rest.

HILARYSo do you want it moved to the vault?

Lara bites the lip, before shaking her head.

LARAActually, no thank you. Something’s just occurred to me. Leave it in the main hall please, I’ll see to it later.

Hilary nods and offers a small bow before leaving. Lara sighs, watching him leave, before pushing herself up onto the stone floor and out of the pool.

INT. CROFT MANOR - MAIN HALL - LATER

Lara walks into the main hall, still drying her hair with a towel. Hilary bows as she enters the room, but she ignores him and instead walks towards Bryce’s office.

LARABryce, I need you to -

BRYCEAlready on it.

Lara halts, looking surprised. Behind her, Hilary gulps. Bryce doesn’t even look up from his work.

LARA(surprised)

Oh.

BRYCEHilary showed me the plaque so I got to work trying to find the fifth. No luck yet, though.

Lara sighs and nods, turning to Hilary.

LARAHilary, can you bring down some books from the library. Namely the books “Crystals and Power” by L.A. Chrimes and “The Discovery of the Five Crystals” by T. Blackster.

HILARYRight away.

With a quick bow, he quickly walks up the staircase and out of sight. Lara sinks into a chair with a sigh and starts to stare into the fireplace.

INT. TENT - NIGHT

A fairly small tent, with the opening flapping around in the outside wind. A YOUNG LARA (9) is sitting cross-legged in the centre next to her father, RICHARD CROFT (39).

Young Lara has a large, dusty BOOK resting on her lap. She’s looking at her father expectantly, who holds up a RED CRYSTAL - one of the ones in Lara’s shield.

RICHARD CROFTYou see this, Lara?

He holds the red crystal in front of her. She looks at it in awe before looking up at her father and nodding her head.

RICHARD CROFT (CONT’D)This is the first Crystal of Power. Inside, it holds the power of fire.

Lara gasps, looking amazed. Richard flashes small smile at her.

RICHARD CROFT (CONT’D)They say the user will later be engulfed in flames.

Lara’s eyes go wide and she claps her hands over her mouth. Richard chuckles quietly before placing the crystal down in front of her.

RICHARD CROFT (CONT’D)There are four other crystals, hidden somewhere around the world. The powers of Water, Air, Earth -

(ominously)And death.

YOUNG LARABut Daddy, you’re going to find them, aren’t you?

RICHARD CROFT(chuckles)

It depends. Owning all five crystals is a great responsibility - after all, they were hidden for a reason.

(beat)And as for death, well, legend says it no longer exists as it was destroyed by the creator due to it’s great and terrible power.

Young Lara doesn’t seem deterred and she picks up the red crystal to stare at it again as he speaks, before looking up at her father again once he’s finished.

YOUNG LARAI bet it’s out there somewhere.You’ll find it one day, Daddy! I know you will.

A troubled expression settles on Richard’s face, much to Lara’s confusion.

RICHARD CROFTSomeday, Lara, you’ll realize that there are some things that should not be found.

As this message settles in, Lara frowns and allows her father to take back the crystal, and he locks it away in a chest.

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT ONE

ACT TWO

FADE IN:

EXT. THAILAND - DAY

Lara loosens her pistols from their holsters and delivers a SHOT to a MERCENARY square in the face.

The mercenary goes down with a light THUMP, and Lara stands, turning to see a second mercenary beginning to get up from the ground.

She stamps on his chest with her right foot, kicking him back down. And then, giving a wink, she SHOOTS him in the throat, killing him instantly.

INT. HYDE’S HQ - NIGHT

Lara SWEEPS one near GUARD to the ground, CRACKING his head against the hard glass and leaving him unconscious. She SHOOTS another two dead, their bullets SMASHING into a glass partition.

On MONA LISA who shoots one GUARD dead before using his limp body as cover, BULLET HOLES peppering it...

...before she FLINGS it towards the assaulting guards, allowing her to SHOOT them!

INT. CROFT MANOR - MAIN HALL - MORNING

All the while avoiding enemy fire, Lara rocks against the chandelier, making it swing from side to side. MERCENARIES watch in amazement, some ceasing their fire.

Seizing the moment as two more mercenaries break through onto the right balcony Lara was on seconds before (bringing the total to four mercenaries on the balcony), Lara raises the SMG and BASHES at the chain holding the chandelier to the ceiling...

TIME SLOWS as it SNAPS, and the chandelier flies off the hook, towards the right balcony. Just before collision, Lara jumps off, her fingers grabbing the edge of the balcony -

- just as TIME RESUMES and the chandelier RIPS through next to her, completely CRUSHING all four mercenaries with a collective scream and crunch of bones and blood.

EXT. PERU - MOUNTAINS - DAY

Lara unhooks her trusty DUAL PISTOLS and begins to fire in the direction of bullets.

There’s a SCREAM as someone goes down. And yet still the bullets keep on coming. Lara’s vastly outnumbered.

Reaching a steeper section of the mountain, Lara drops to her front and rolls to the side, hiding in a small ALCOVE.

She waits for several moments, her pistols held tightly to her chest as the distant sound of FOOTSTEPS rings out.

Moments later, two pairs of feet come into view by the alcove, but they have no clue where Lara is hiding.

Lara lets out a smirk and aims her pistols - and with two SHOTS she fires a bullet into each MERCENARY’s LEG.

The men let out screams, both going down on one knee as Lara rolls out of the alcove.

Lara takes aim at both - and without mercy, SHOOTS them in the head. They’re DEAD.

INT. PERU - CAVERN - N/A

HYDE turns to look at Lara - she’s raised her PISTOL, and a smirk has appeared on her face. Hyde gasps.

She SHOOTS. And from a different perspective, we can see it’s right between the eyes. He drops. DEAD.

Lara barely shows any sign that she cares, only plucking the totem from his cold dead fingers.

VOICE (O.S.)Lara!

Lara freezes, looking around before letting out an almighty SCREAM -

CUT TO:

INT. CROFT MANOR - MAIN HALL - NIGHT

Lara is still seated on the armchair in the main hall, and SCREAMS as someone shakes her awake!

Lara calms herself down, looking at who had woken her. It’s a girl, seemingly in her mid twenties with short blonde hair and a pretty face - ALURA KHAMOON. She looks concerned.

ALURAAlura!

Lara struggles to catch her breath and sits up in the armchair. She notices the two books she asked Hilary for on the table.

ALURA (CONT’D)Are you OK? You were tossing and turning and I was worried that something had happened.

LARAI, I...

(checks watch)Must have been asleep for twelve hours!

Lara lets out a small laugh, and turns her attention back to Alura, who still looks worried.

LARA (CONT’D)I’m just having some bad dreams. It’s been happening for about the last week. Hallowe’en must just be getting to me this year.

Alura raises her eyebrows - she’s not convinced. Lara just sighs, shaking her head.

LARA (CONT’D)I’ve been dreaming about death. My own... other peoples.

(beat)I think it’s got something to do with the Crystal of Death.

ALURALike the one you found for water a few years back?

LARAExactly. I could never find the death crystal, and neither could my farther.

(beat)But I’ve just got a strange feeling that it could well be to do with it.

Alura slowly nods, taking a seat on the sofa beside Lara.

ALURASo what are we going to do about it?

LARAI’ve got Bryce trying to find the crystal - apparently no luck so far, or he would have woken me up.

ALURAWhat about checking the books?

Lara nods to the books on the table.

LARAI had Hilary bring them down for me, but I must have... ah, fallen asleep.

ALURA(chuckles)

I see.(beat)

Anything else I need to know about it?

LARANot that I’m aware of.

Alura stands up, brushing herself down. She scoops the books off the table.

ALURAGood. I’m off to the library. Maybe you should try and get some sleep - assuming you haven’t already had enough?

LARAOh, I’m well rested.

But there’s a dark glint in her eye that suggests that she isn’t well rested, just very determined.

FADE TO:

INT. CROFT MANOR - LIBRARY - MORNING

It’s clearly a few hours later judging from the morning sunshine glaring through the stained-glass windows of the library.

Alura sits behind her desk with reading glasses on and with a laptop open on her right side and several tomes lined up on the other. She yawns into her hand.

Lara is sat on the other side of the desk with her feet up and a book in her lap. She’s reading the pages intently.

Alura looks over her books at Lara and back again. Lara doesn’t seem to notice -

LARAWhat?

Alura quickly looks away.

ALURAUh, nothing.

Lara looks up from her book, her eyebrows raised.

LARAYour were starting intently at me for a reason, what is it?

ALURA(hesitant)

Well, I was wondering if anything had happened over my holiday.

(beat)You seem more... reserved. Like something bad happened.

LARA(sarcastic)

I guess the counselling training really paid off then, eh?

They stare at each other. Neither backs down. Lara sighs.

LARA (CONT’D)I was searching for the Diamond Shards.

ALURAI thought you had the hunt scheduled for next month?

LARAI was forced to move it forward.

(off look)Jackson Hyde.

Alura’s eyes widen and Lara just grimaces at the thought.

ALURAWhat happened?

Lara avoids her eye, looking down at her book again. She tries to sound like it doesn’t bother her.

LARAHe got in my way.

(beat)We won’t be seeing him again.

ALURA(shocked)

Oh.(beat)

I’m, uh, sorry for mentioning it.

Still Lara doesn’t look up. Alura is a bit scared over this, and looks upset at her own comments.

LARADon’t be. You would have had to have found out anyway.

They fall into silence.

Quietly, he door opens and in enters Hilary. He coughs lightly to get there attention.

HILARYHow nice to see you again, Ms. Khamoon!

(beat)Can I get you ladies anything?

Lara freezes, her eyes wide. Nobody notices.

ALURAUh, yeah, can I have my usual? That is if you still remember it!

HILARYOf course I do.

(beat)Anything for you, Lady Croft?

Lara snaps back to reality, looking up at Hilary.

LARAYes, wake Bryce. Get him down to the tech office a.s.a.p. I have an idea.

Bryce raises his eyebrows and shares a confused look with Alura but bows slightly before leaving. Lara turns to look at Alura.

LARA (CONT’D)You’d better be there too. And afterwards, I want you to catch up on some sleep.

Alura just yawns and nods again. She’s not complaining.

INT. CROFT MANOR - MAIN HALL - MINUTES LATER

Bryce is seated inside the ring of computers, yawning widely. Hilary stands patiently beside him whilst Alura is sitting in a chair next to them.

Lara walks down the hall, holding the shield with the crystals in her hands. She places it on the table in front of them.

BRYCE(blinks)

Yes, they’re the crystals.

Lara just rolls her eyes. With a tug, she pulls the red crystal out of it’s slot! Hilary blinks several times, clearly confused.

Lara holds it out in front of Bryce’s face.

LARAIf I’m right - which I know I am - this crystal gives off energy readings.

BRYCEUh huh.

LARAWell if we use these readings and compare them to other similar readings around the world, we’ll be able to narrow down out hunt, won’t we?

BRYCEI guess so.

LARAAnd then, we look for any strange situations or occurrences that have happened surrounding the areas that the readings are coming from, and that should lead us straight to the last crystal!

The other three stare at her, blinking like mad. It’s clear they struggled to take that all in. Lara just stares back. Bryce takes the crystal from her.

BRYCESo basically you want me to take the energy readings, look for similar ones, and then look for any occurrences in these areas?

LARAIn simple terms, yes.

(beat)Can you do that?

BRYCECourse. Shouldn’t take too long. Just give me about ten minutes and I should have mapped out all the places giving off similar readings. Another thirty after that and you could be on your way.

LARAExcellent.

(beat)Alura, I want you to go get some rest.

(beat)I’m off to the gym, buzz me if you find anything.

Alura nods, yawning, and sleepily hobbles off towards the staircase. Bryce rolls over to a complicated looking machine with the crystal and puts it inside.

Hilary turns to Lara, looking expectant.

HILARYAnything I can do for you, Lady Croft?

LARAJust... make sure Bryce doesn’t break anything.

Hilary nods, but looks slightly miffed about his duty. Lara sighs and moves away, running a hand through her hair.

FADE OUT.

ACT THREE

FADE IN:

EXT. MOTORWAY - DAY

The motorway is fairly quiet for midday and cars are just flowing by - when an SUV ZOOMS PAST at a ridiculous speed and is gone within a second!

INT. SUV - AFTERNOON

Lara is in the drivers seat of the SUV, clearly hurrying on her way. She has her headset on, and is focusing heavily on the road.

LARASo are you sure this is the place?

Lara just shrugs, her eyes not straying off the road for a split second.

LARAI guess so. I won’t be too happy if I don’t find anything though. I’d hate for it to be a wasted trip - especially with it being Hallowe’en after all. You know I don’t like doing things on a Hallowe’en.

BRYCEThen why are you doing this in the first place?

LARAI’ve just got a very bad feeling that something’s going to happen tonight.

BRYCEOh great, “feelings”. The last “feeling” you had ended up with me breaking my big toe.

Lara just raises her eyebrows, even though Bryce can’t see her expression.

LARA(scoffs)

That wasn’t my fault, Bryce Rogers, and you know it.

BRYCEAll right, all right, I’m not going to argue with you.

(beat)After all, the month off was quite nice.

LARAAnd unnecessary.

(beat)And unless you have something valuable to add to the conversation I’d like some quiet on the line, please. I’m breaking about fifty different laws doing this and I’d rather not be discovered. Nice press are bad enough, let alone some bad press.

BRYCEOkay, woman, you’re on your own for now. Good luck. Buzz me when you need me.

LARA(quietly)

Hopefully never.

BRYCEI heard that!

Lara reaches up and switches off her bluetooth. She lets out a sigh of relief.

LARAQuiet at last.

There’s a few moments of quiet - and then Lara reaches over and turns on the radio, allowing ‘Elevation’ by U2 to boom out over the speaker system.

As she starts nodding her head lightly to the beat, we:

EXT. SCOTTISH HILLS - AFTERNOON

It’s a miserable afternoon in Scotland’s countryside - pouring with rain, muddy ground and dark grey skies. There’s even the occasional rumble of thunder.

Overall, not a good day.

In front of us, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, is a graveyard. It’s not large, only around twenty gravestones and a sparse amount of trees. The gates are thick with cobwebs.

There’s a loud screeching noise as Lara’s SUV brakes right outside the gates. Lara steps out, her boots making loud squelching noises as they hit the muddy ground.

LARA(dry)

Lovely.

She reaches up and turns her bluetooth back on with a sigh as she looks all around herself. She’s not too impressed by the view, it seems, judging by her expression.

LARA (CONT’D)All right, Bryce, I presume the reading’s coming from in here?

She indicates the graveyard with a look of distaste.

BRYCEUh, yeah, it is. You’ll need to go in for me to get a definite lock-on though.

Lara just nods, brushing a stray lock of hair from in front of her eyes as she reaches the gates.

Gripping the cobwebbed handles, Lara TUGS. They barely move an inch. With a growl, she TUGS again. They roll open with an extremely loud CREAK!

There’s a few CAWING sounds as several CROWS take flight from inside the graveyard. Lara eyes them with suspicion.

LARAI already don’t like this.

There’s a light chuckle from the other side of the headset, but Lara isn’t amused at all. With a sigh, she trudges into the graveyard.

As she moves between the gravestones, Bryce light says “no” as she indicates each one. She stops before another one. There’s no writing on it, just a carving of a skull.

BRYCEWait, this is it!

LARAIs the reading coming from the gravestone?

BRYCENo - from under it. There must be some kind of tomb down there, or something.

LARA(faint smile)

Ah, my speciality.

Lara runs her hand over the gravestone, before she catches something. She pushes the hole in the carving were the right eye is supposed to be.

There’s a low RUMBLE as the ground in front of the gravestone crumbles and just DROPS out of sight!

BRYCEWoah!

Lara takes a look down the newly-opened entrance. It’s pitch black down there. She pulls something from her belt - a FLARE - and lights it. She throws it down the hole.

It hits the ground about ten metres below the entrance and lights up the floor. Lara shrugs.

LARAThat’s not too bad.

BRYCEAre you sure about -

She sits in the muddy ground and dangles her legs over the side before carefully lowering herself inside and out of sight.

INT. TOMB - ENTRANCE - CONTINUOUS

She lands with a loud SMACK as her leather boots hit the stone floor. She scoops the flare up and looks around. It looks like the start of a tunnel, leading down and out of sight, into the darkness.

LARA(sighs)

It’s never simple, is it?

She pauses. There’s no response. She reaches up to her bluetooth and pushes a few buttons. Nothing happens.

LARA (CONT’D)(grumbling)

All those satellites and computers, just to perfect the science of talking to oneself!

Shaking her head, Lara starts to move down the tunnel, letting the light of the flare light up the area. She moves out of sight.

INT. TOMB - STATUE ROOM - LATER

There’s no clear indication as to how long Lara’s been walking, but she seems to be fairly annoyed with it all. The room she steps in is cast in darkness.

She looks around, trying to make something out in the shadows of the room, but it’s near impossible. Reaching into a pocket on her belt, she pulls out another FLARE and lights it.

A dull green light is cast upon the room, removing all the shadows. Now we can see the room more clearly.

Along the walls are ancient carvings of gods and deities being given tributes by their followers. In each corner of the square room there is a DEITY STATUE.

There seems to be no exit except through the archway in which Lara is standing.

LARA(shocked)

It can’t be!

Lara scans the room quickly before heading further in. She scans the carvings on the wall, running one hand over them whilst moving the flare closer to brighten that area.

She bites her lip, as if considering whether or not to do something - and then she prods one carving’s mask - and it sinks into the wall.

There’s a low RUMBLE before the entire wall splits in two, opening outwards - it’s a door!

With a disgruntled and worried look, Lara walks through the door - only to pause. She looks over her shoulder, squinting into the darkness she left behind.

The flare flickers and dies. Lara is cast in darkness.

INT. TOMB - CORRIDOR - CONTINUOUS

The only noise that can be heard is Lara’s heavy breathing and the fumbling of her fingers as she struggles with her belt.

There’s another low rumble and the door rolls SHUT behind her.

LARANot again.

HISS! Lara strikes up a flare, looks around. Sure enough, two SKELETONS are freeing themselves from the back of the door.

Lara quickly reaches for her holstered guns - but they’ve disappeared, just as they had in her dream!

The first skeleton breaks free from the door, but Lara’s already prepared and lands a ROUNDHOUSE KICK that, with a sickening CRUNCH, breaks the skeleton’s SKULL!

However, this doesn’t stop it and it still claws out towards Lara, even as the second skeleton breaks free.

The head-less skeleton grabs Lara with bony fingers and Lara twists her arm and pulls, TUGGING FREE the arm!

Lara rips the arm from her own arm and stamps on it on the floor, destroying it. However, the attack has cost her time and the second skeleton reaches for her, but she jumps back!

The skeleton trips and falls, and Lara STAMPS on it’s ribcage, CRUSHING and BREAKING it. The skeleton ceases to move.

As the headless and armless skeleton reaches for Lara with it’s remaining arm she aims a kick at it’s spine, which shatters and the skeleton falls apart.

Both of them lay broken in pieces on the floor, not moving. Lara sighs, resting with her hands on her knees as she catches her breath again.

Lighting up another flare, Lara follows the carved walls down a long passage, before she turns a corner and moves out of sight -

INT. TOMB - MAIN ROOM - CONTINUOUS

As Lara rounds the corner, she’s faced with a familiar sight - she’s on a balcony and below that is endless dark. Lara shivers at the thought of what’s down there.

Nothing moves. It’s dead quiet. Literally.

Lara takes a look around, squinting into the darkness. She reaches for a flare but thinks better of it and stops.

And then she spots something. Around twenty metres ahead of her is the faint outline of a podium. Something on it glints - the CRYSTAL.

Lara allows herself a small smile as she unhooks her metallic GRAPPLE from her belt. She starts to breath slowly, trying not to pressure herself.

Under her breath she counts to three - and then throws the end of the grapple. It hooks onto the crystal.

Down bellow, there’s a faint CREAKING noise. Lara freezes, but nothing else is heard.

With a giant TUG, she pulls the grapple - and the crystal is pulled along with it. She catches it in her hands. Quickly unhooking it from the grapple and putting her pouch, she turns, prepared to move.

And it’s the right thing to do and the creaking Lara heard earlier multiples by several hundred and flaming torches are light below, exposing a vast army of SKELETONS!

The skeletons even start appearing from the walls, breaking free from carvings, all REACHING OUT for Lara!

Lara’s eyes widen and she gasps, making a run for it as one breaks away from the wall next to the balcony and starts to climb over, towards her.

INT. TOMB - CORRIDOR - CONTINUOUS

Lara makes a mad dash down the corridor, trying to stay as small as possible as bones star reaching out for her, trying to grab onto her. One arm gets her, but she rips it off.

As she approaches the doors, they start to roll open, much to her surprise. However, she isn’t complaining as she dives through them.

However, they stay open, allowing several SKELETONS that have detached themselves from the wall to follow her out.

INT. TOMB - STATUE ROOM - CONTINUOUS

As Lara continues her mad plan of escape, she crosses through the statue room, but immediately notices yet another problem - the STATUES are ALIVE!

As one deity statue swings at her with a giant STONE SWORD, Lara ducks and quickly runs for the tunnel entrance.

The army of skeletons builds up, now accompanied by four very angry looking statues!

INT. TOMB - ENTRANCE - MOMENTS LATER

Lara reaches where she entered, and looks up to see the hole above her. She looks around madly for an escape route, before she unhooks her grapple and swings it into the air.

It hooks onto the gravestone and she pulls herself up and out of sight, just as the first skeletons begin to appear.

EXT. SCOTTISH HILLS - CONTINUOUS

Lara pulls herself back out onto the muddy ground, even as the skeletons begin to claw their way to the surface.

Thinking fast, Lara rams the gravestone - and with alot of effort and strength, it collapses over the hole, sealing it.

Lara falls back into the wet mud, gasping for breath. The rain wets down her hair to her forehead.

BRYCE(quiet)

Are you ok, Lara?

She doesn’t respond.

FADE OUT.

ACT FOUR

FADE IN:

INT. CROFT MANOR - LARA’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Asleep in bed, looking ever the angel after her days ordeal, is Lara. She’s sleeping peacefully, no longer tossing and turning as she was that morning.

BANG!

Lara springs awake, wielding a KNIFE that was hidden under her pillow. Her eyes scan the room. Confident that there’s no-one there, she goes to lay back down.

SMASH!

This time, she doesn’t swing the knife out again. Instead, she swings her legs off the bed and stands. She wraps a dressing gown around her and moves towards a painting.

Pulling the painting off the wall, a SAFE is revealed behind it. Entering the code, Lara pulls the door open - and pulls out a trusty DESERT EAGLE.

Making sure it’s loaded, Lara slips the knife into the waistband of her silk pajamas and holds the desert eagle. She walks towards the door.

BOOM!

Lara’s eyes narrow as she reaches for the door handle. Her hand closes around it and she goes to twist -

SMASH!

Lara spins round, raising the desert eagle - to find that a ZOMBIE GREYHOUND has just leapt through her window!

The greyhound has rotting skin, and in some places it’s bare flesh is exposed. It drools all over her floor, growling through it’s sharp teeth!

Lara aims the gun, just as the greyhound leaps - BANG! With a THUMP, the greyhound falls to the floor.

Lara eyes it with suspicion, before crinkling her nose at the foul smell. She turns back to the door and pulls it open, raising the gun as she does.

There’s nothing there. Cautiously, she steps through.

INT. CROFT MANOR - MAIN HALL - MOMENTS LATER

Lara scans all ways, pointing the gun in every direction before moving towards the stairs. She takes every step carefully, making sure to look everywhere.

BANG!

The noises are getting closer. Lara’s grip on her gun increases. A bead of sweat rolls down her forehead.

She takes steps down the staircase until she’s in the main hall, her eyes still darting round.

WHOOSH!

In a flash, Lara DIVES to the floor as a GREAT SWORD swings across were her head was a second before. Lara rolls out of harms way and stand to look at her opponent -

Clad in shining silver armor and wielding the great sword is a KNIGHT. However, there’s something off with it - apart from the fact it’s moving, of course. There’s a GREY MIST surrounding it.

Lara frowns, but the knight launches another swing and she’s forced to dive out of the way again. She raises her gun and shoots - the bullet barely DENTS the armor.

LARAOh, sh -

She’s forced to dive out the way again, and rolls around the knight. The knight goes to turn, but Lara quickly quicks it in the back of the knee and it lurches forward.

With it temporarily distracted, Lara leaps on it’s back. It flails around, trying to throw her off. Lara raises the gun and with immense struggle, points it at the back of the neck.

She pulls the trigger. There’s a loud BANG and suddenly she flies off the knight’s back due to the force of the gunshot. The knights helmet rolls across the floor with a CLANK.

The grey mist leaves the knight and dissipates in the air, allowing the rest of the armor to fall with another, louder CLANK.

Lara struggles to catch her breath. She slowly gets back to her feet, reloading the gun.

SMASH!

The noise is even closer now.

Even more determined then ever, Lara raises the gun and begins to move across the hall.

BANG!

Even closer. Lara begins to move towards one of the doors on the ground hall. She pauses.

LARA (CONT’D)(muttering)

The bastards. My trophy room!

With an angry look on her face, Lara slinks towards the trophy room door. Once she reaches it, she takes another look across the hall. It’s quiet. Everything is still.

She reaches for the door handle and twists, quickly entering and shutting the door behind her.

INT. CROFT MANOR - TROPHY ROOM - CONTINUOUS

And as she enters the trophy room, she gasps in shock, before her expression turns to one of a woman extremely pissed off.

Lumbering around her precious trophy room, destroying the displays and throwing her trophies all around are about twelve ZOMBIES!

The one closest to Lara stops and sniffs, before looking up at her. Half of it’s face it missing. Bits of the brain are just handing out of it’s head.

It lets out a loud moan. The others turn to look. Soon enough, all the zombies have seen Lara.

With a fierce determination, she raises the gun.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

Three go down before they even take a step. Lara turns the gun on some more.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

Another three. Suddenly, one of the zombies LOBS a CHINA DISH at her. It narrowly misses her head and smashes on the door.

She turns her gun on the zombie that threw the dish, anger visible all over her face.

LARAThat was from the Emperor of Xi’an, you arse!

BLAM!

The zombie goes down, the bullet having hit it square in between the eyes.

However, having temporarily lost focus, Lara’s missed one of the zombies nearest to her and it grabs her arm, about to BITE DOWN -

She quickly reverses her weight, spinning around and delivering a KNEE to the zombies stomach. As it recoils backwards, she SHOOTS it between the eyes.

She turns, the gun rising once more. BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

There’s only one zombie left now, shuffling towards her with a low moan. Drool drips out of the corner of it’s mouth. One eye is hanging out of it’s socket.

Lara starts a run before delivering a JUMP-KICK to the zombies face. There’s a sickening CRUNCH as it’s neck breaks and it falls to the floor with a THUMP.

Lara sighs, looking around the mess that is her trophy room - when suddenly she’s LAUNCHED off her feet as something barrels into her from behind.

She quickly jumps to her feet, groaning in pain and looks around, raising her gun.

Sitting on one of the remaining displays is a STONE GARGOYLE. Except it’s MOVING.

It lets out a horrific CRY before swooping back down to attack Lara again.

Lara quickly fires two shoots - parts of the gargoyle’s wings are hit and crumble away, but it continues to move, and Lara’s knocked backwards into a glass cabinet.

It SMASHES all around her and she collapses to the floor. As she struggles to her feet, we see her cheeks are CUT and bleeding, and blood drips from her mouth.

The gargoyle flies in for another shot, but Lara raises her gun - BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

Each shot hits the gargoyle square in the face. It’s face crumbles apart, and it falls to the floor with a loud BANG, before breaking into multiple pieces.

Lara sighs, wiping the blood away from her face. She eyes the gargoyle suspiciously, not lowering her gun.

She looks around the room - and the first thing she spots is the SHIELD with the five POWER CRYSTALS all placed in it, completely UNHARMED.

Her eyes widen in realization as she realizes what’s going on - just as the stained-glass window SMASHES and four more STONE GARGOYLES appear.

LARA (CONT’D)Bugger it!

Lara moves her gun towards the glass cabinet the shield is being held in and SHOOTS - the glass SMASHES.

The gargoyles all SWOOP DOWN on her, but Lara dodges past them and grabs the shield from the broken cabinet.

The gargoyles turn in mid-air and head straight for Lara, who GASPS - and then SMASHES the shield against the wall, DESTROYING all the crystals!

There’s a low RUMBLE and the shield explodes, blasting Lara away and to the floor. A chunk of the wall flies off. The empty, broken shield clatters to the ground.

Lara looks up - the gargoyles are gone. So are the zombie bodies. But the trophy room is still in a state of disrepair. She sighs.

The door opens and Hilary, Bryce and Alura all dash in carrying SHOTGUNS. Lara laughs, getting to her feet.

LARA (CONT’D)Sorry guys, you missed the party. Trick or Treaters had to leave.

(beat)Took your time though, didn’t you?

She runs a hand through her hair, exposing all her cuts and bruises. Alura winces at the sight. The others lower their weapons. Bryce spots the broken shield.

BRYCEUh, Lara?

He nods towards the shield. Lara sighs again, shaking her head.

LARAIt’s just like what my Dad always said. Some things are just not supposed to found.

Shaking her hand, Lara walks past them and out of the room. Bryce shrugs and follows her out. Alura sighs before following them.

Hilary looks over the room in dismay.

HILARYDear lord, I have to clean this tomorrow.

With a sigh, he turns and leaves the room, shutting the door behind him and on the utter chaotic mess the room is in.

FADE TO:

INT. CROFT MANOR - LARA’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Lara is back in bed, but now the desert eagle is laying next to her pillow, just in case.

Lara turns in her sleep, but snores lightly. A smile forms on her face. It’s a peaceful sleep - for once.

Suddenly there’s a maniacal LAUGH ringing around the room.

Lara’s smile turns into a frown - her eyes SNAP OPEN.

She SCREAMS.

FADE TO BLACK.
