Larger single storey rear extension- 3m-6m rear extension on an attached house or a 4m-8m rear extension on a detached house For a temporary period from 30 May 2013 to 30 May 2016 regulations allow for single storey rear extensions of 3m-6m on an attached house or a 4m-8m on a detached house, subject to a prior notification process. These permitted development rights do not apply to flats, extensions above ground floor or above 4m in height nor to dwellings in a conservation area. The process is: Before starting works, the householder must notify the council and provide a written description of the proposal, a plan of the site and the addresses of any adjoining properties, including at the rear. (by providing a written description and plans) please see the application form on our forms and fees page The council consult the adjoining premises (minimum 21 days) and send a copy of the consultation letter to the developer If none of the owners or occupiers of any adjoining premises object to the proposed development, then Haringey Council must not assess the proposed development but should confirm to the developer that prior approval is not required If any of the owners or occupiers of any adjoining premises object to the proposed development, then the council must assess the impact of the proposed development on the amenity of all adjoining premises (not just the adjoining premises which are the subject of representations), and must take into account all representations made as a result of the consultation letter. To be able to make this assessment, Haringey Council may require the developer to submit further information. If Haringey Council refuses prior approval this means that planning permission is required and, the applicant would have the right to submit an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate If the council confirms that prior approval is not required or grants prior approval (or fails to issue a decision within 42 days), then the works must be undertaken in accordance with the information submitted The works must be completed on or before 30 May 2016 The developer must notify Haringey Council of the completion of the works as soon as reasonably practicable after completion
