LASER DIODE MOUNTS

The LM14S2 Butterfly Laser Diode Mountis designed to operate with all lasers andtwo-port electro-optic devices in a 14-pin"butterfly" package. The top surfaceincludes heat sink fins and a recessed regionto mount the laser diode, resulting in a verylow-profile package.

The LM14S2 includes a laser diode “TECLockout” feature, which disables the laserwhen the TEC Controller is not active.* Itis designed to allow up to 5A laser currentand 5A TEC current**.

This mount also provides Zero InsertionForce Sockets (ZIF), a remote interlockconnection, and an LED to indicate thatthe laser diode is enabled.

Two modules come with the package: thefirst is preconfigured for both Type-1 andType-2 lasers, and the second is a user-configurable module designed to allowcustom wiring of the mount. A Bias-TAdapter is also included with the product,allowing for RF modulation of butterflylasers specifically designed with thiscapability.

The LM14S2 is pin-for-pin compatiblewith all Thorlabs' Benchtop Laser DiodeControllers and TEC Controllers, and mostof our Platform Laser and TEC Controllersas well, eliminating the need for custom-made interface cables.

The TCLDM9 mount is ideal fortemperature-controlled operation of all 3-pin and 4-pin laser diodes in 9mm (TO-18) and 5.6mm (TO-46) packages, aswell as our fiber coupled pigtailed lasers. Itincludes a Bias-T for RF modulation of thelaser current up to 500MHz, and can beeasily integrated into any existing opticalsetup. The mount can be adapted to thepolarity of the laser and monitor diodes byminiature switches located at the top.

The mount features holes on the bottomsurface and the front plate. The bottomsurface has #8-32 and M4 mounting holes,and the front plate has tapped holes tomount our ER-series Cage Assembly Rods.

The LDM21 Miniature TEC-Cooled LaserDiode Mount measures half the size of ourTCLDM9 mount, and is capable ofaccepting both 5.6mm and 9mm laserdiode packages.

With an integrated thermal electric coolerelement and a 10kW thermistor, thismount keeps laser wavelengths stabilized byprecisely holding the case temperature towithin 0.002°C.

The small size of the LDM21 makes thismount ideal for optical setups where spaceis limited. Completely compatible with ourextensive line of Laser Diode and TECControllers, this mount can operate withall standard laser diode pin configurations.

The front side of the mount has a standard1.035- 40 thread, making it compatiblewith our SM1 Series of optical componentsand allowing for the addition ofcollimating or focusing optics. The backside of the mount accepts DB9 inputs froma laser current source and TEC controller.*TEC Lockout only functions with Thorlabs lasers and TECcontrollers and can be easily bypassed if not required.

Thorlabs’ line of collimation andfocusing tubes with optics offersprecision mounts for standard 9mm and5.6mm laser packages. Lasers can beeasily replaced, and the lens mounts haveadjustable focus. The packages include amain tube, an optic, a retaining ring, arubber O-ring, and an adapter (for the5.6mm packages). The collimation tubesfeature a diffraction-limited asphericoptic with a multi-layer broadband ARcoating.

The SR9 Series of strain relief and ESDprotection products offers a convenientand safe means of connecting 5.6mm or9mm laser diodes to our line of LaserDiode Controllers.

Each model comes with a laser socketmounted to a small Printed CircuitBoard. The PCB contains a Schottkydiode to clamp any reverse voltages thatmight appear across the laser diode, aswell as a Zener diode to shunt anyexcessive voltages or ESD away from thediode.

The series is available with or without aDB9 connector. All SR9x-DB9 modelsare pin compatible with our LDC200Cand LDC340 Series Laser Controllers.

To ensure the most stable operating environment and provide outstanding protection for your laser diode, Thorlabs offers a number ofmounts designed for various popular laser diode packages. From 5.6mm and 9mm devices to 14-pin butterfly lasers, we have a mountavailable for just about every application.

With two thermo-electric elements and embedded temperature sensors, the TCLDM9 offers a versatile mount for 5.6mm and 9mmpackages. At half the size, the LDM21 is available for applications where space is limited.

The LM14S2 is our versatile 14-pin butterfly mount. Compatible with both Telecom and Pump-type laser diodes, this mount comes withthe ability to reconfigure the pins for any type of butterfly laser, and it is also compatible with many two-port electro-optic devices.

TO-3 Collimation Package

Our Cage System Collimation Kits conveniently provide all the basiccomponents required to assemble and collimate a high-power laserdiode quickly. The LDH3-P1 kit is assembled using cage rods and cageplates, along with specialized components for various laser diodepackages. Cage plates are assembled on the cage rods, which offercoarse positional adjustment and excellent center-to-center alignmentof the laser diode and collimating optic.

Each package is shipped assembled (laserand aspheric lens not included) and iscompatible with Thorlabs’ extensive lines of Ø1" lens tubes and collimation optics(see pages 207 and 738, respectively).

The S1LM9 laser diode mounts are designed for mounting 5.6mmand 9mm laser diodes directly into our SM1 Ø1" lens tube systems.The mount is designed such that the laser diode is aligned to theoptical axis of the lens tube, enabling easy assembly of lens tube-based setups. We recommend using the SPW801 spanner wrench(see page 917), together with an SM1RR retaining ring (see page208), to lock the S1LM9 laser diode mount into the lens tube.

The LDH9-P1 collimation package is designed for use with Ø5.6mm andØ9mm laser packages. A laser diode is mounted within the S1LM9, whichis then mounted within a CP02. A mounted aspheric lens is threaded into theS1TM09, which is then threaded into a second CP02. The whole system is center-alignedvia precision cage assembly rods, allowing for manual positioning along the beam'spropagation axis. Parts include CP02 (x2), ER1.5 (x4), S1TM09, and S1LM9.
