Nava Raj Dahal (Founder & Managing Director):Born in Dhading district of Nepal, he moved to Kathmandu after thecompletion of high school education. While working initially as an accountantin a trekking company, he completed masters degree in BusinessAdministration (MBA) from Tribhuvan University. In the meantime, he alsogot an opportunity to guide the tourists to almost all regions for trekking andother adventurous activities in Nepal which helped him later to set up hisown trekking company "Nepal Environmental Treks and Expedition"with the support of two other working partners. Being a strong supporter ofeco- tourism since the very beginning, he is well motivated towards protectingand preserving the beautiful environment for future generations. He oftenquotes "Where there is greenery, there is peace and happiness". At present,he has been elected as the General Secretary of TAAN (Trekking Agencies'Association of Nepal) an umbrella organization of 560 trekking companies.He firmly believes that his position at TAAN has encouraged him to supportin promoting the tourism of Nepal.

His visit to several countries of Asia and Europe has granted him tremendousopportunities to study the ethics and nature of global tourism and to havecorporate relationship with tourism entrepreneurs. With his continuouscontribution and strong dedication, the company has established animpeccable reputation both at home and abroad.

Arjun Prasad Dhakal (Co- Founder & Director):Originally, he hails from Dhading district of Nepal. After completing his Highschool education in his village, he moved to Kathmandu and started hiscareer in travel industry. Prior to setting up "Nepal Environment Treks &Expedition", he had served for other adventure travel company as touroperation Director for more than a decade. His years of practical experienceand wealth of knowledge in adventure tourism helped him to establish himselfas a key person in the management team.

Ramesh Dahal (Tour Manager):Born and raised in Dhading district, he is a kind and easy- going youngtravel entrepreneur with enthusiasm and passion for tourism right from hisvery young age. He has acquired varied and practical experience in thetravel industry, working previously as trekking guide for ten years and laterhe assumes the position of sales executive and tour manager in thecompany. His easy and lively tempermanent has won the hearts of manytravelers he has led and has built a very friendly relationship with them tilldate. He understands the needs of each member of the group while on trailand treats them with great care. He has got extensive experience in trekkingfield and has good command in English.

Besides handling trekking and tours, he takes care of inquires of the clients,reservation of hotel accommodations/ flights/ transportation. Furthermore,he has spent many years living in Europe and has a through knowledge ofvarious European cultures, places and people. Above all, he also ownsanother travel company World Vision Travels and Tour and has been servingthis company being the Managing Director since its inception.

Grading of a TrekWe have graded our trips in different categories andyou should choose one that suits you the most.Grading of a trek has been done on the basis of somefactors such as- the trip duration, the altitude, theterrain, number of hours of walking everyday, likelytemperatures and the level of fitness.

Easy treks involve up to 6 hours each day, altitudegenerally do not exceed 3500 m. Anyone who enjoysregular exercise and is in a good physical conditioncould easily cope with these treks.

Moderate treks involve walking for 6 to 7 hours aday in more remote country, reaching altitudes ofapproximately 4500m. A reasonable level of fitness isrequired as there would be much ascents and descentswith some occasional difficult days.

Strenuous treks are harder, suitable for regularmountain walkers as they are generally more demandingand may involve 7 or 8 hours a day, with altitudes upto 5500m. You should be physically fit and appropriatepreparation is essential. Some days may involvecrossing a pass with up to 10 hours of walking a day.

AccommodationWe basically offer you three kinds of accommodationswhile on treks- Tea House (Lodge) trek, Camping andLocal home stay. Tea House accommodation or lodgetrek is very popular in the developed tourist regionsincluding Annapurna, Everest and Langtang - Helamburegions where western, continental meals, Nepalesemeal (Dal bhaat), and good accommodation withattached bath with hot and cold showers are availablein most of the places.

Camping accommodation or full board trek includes ateam consisting of a well- versed guide, cook, Sherpa,& porters to provide trekkers the best company. Ourporters carry all trekking gear; food, fuel, & personalbelongings, whereas our cook prepares hygienic freshmeals and the Sherpa (Assistant Guide/Care Taker)supervises the whole operations. Trekkers carry onlysmall bag or their needful gadgets for their trek. Atnight, they are provided with dining tents, sleepingtents, & toilet tents. They are also provided withmattresses and down sleeping bags, tables and chairsall of which are carried by porters.

nnapurna region lies towards the north of central Nepal and is one of the most popular trekking destinationsin the country offering a variety of excellent treks of all grades and styles. The region introduces us Nepalesespectacular diversity at its finest: various tribes and castes, a wide range of terrain, wooded alpine pasturesfrom sub-tropical rainforest, deep valleys, deepest gorge of the world.

Gorkha-Rupinala trekThis region is considered to be one of the non tourist areas due to itsisolation and lack of easy accessibility. This trek was officially opened totourists in 1991, but mountaineering expeditions have had long access tothis area. The trek is geographically spectacular and culturally fascinatingcircumnavigating Manaslu peak (7871m) Himal Chuli (7893m) and Boudha(6672m). Much of this trekking area lies in a region of strong Tibetaninfluence. We cross the Rupina-La Pass (4520m) and descend to theMarshyangdi river and further trek down to Besisahar. From here wedrive back to Kathmandu viewing the lush green rice fields and hillsides.

PhaguPurnima/HoliThis festival takes place on the full moon day in themonth of February – March. This is a colorful occasionwhen people smear each other with color powderedand splash water balloons onto one another.

Nepalese New YearThe day usually falls in the second week of April. It is observed as a national holiday. People celebrate itwith a great pomp and show. On this occasion, BisketJatra is held in the city of Bhaktapur.

GhodejatraGodhe Jatra or Horse festival celebrated betweenMarch and April is one of the exciting festivalscelebrated in Kathmandu. Horse race and other sportstake place at the Tundikhel parade ground on this day.In the other parts of the city, various deities are carriedto a shoulder-high on palanquin (Khat) with theaccompaniment of traditional music.

Rato Machchendranath Rath YatraCelebrated in May- June, this festival is the biggestsocio- cultural event of Patan. The wheeled chariot ofa diety known as Bungdyo or Rato Machchendranathis made at Pulchowk and dragged through the city ofPatan in several stages till it reaches the destined location(Lagankhel). The grand final of the festival is calledthe ‘Bhoto Dekhaune’ or the ‘showing of vest’.

JanaipurnimaThis festival is celebrated in August in which Hindupeople change sacred threads and take a holy bathand receive yellow threaded bands in their wrist fromBrahmin priests.

GaijatraCelebrated in July- August, it is a carnival that lastsfor eight days, dancing; singing, comedy and anythingthat causes mirth and laughter which are its highlights.

KrishnasthamiCelebrated in July –August, it marks the birthday ofLord Krishna. On this day, impressive ceremoniesare conducted at the Krishna Temple in Patan and atChangunarayan.

TeejCelebrated in August –September, it is a Hindu festivalcelebrated by women. Dancing, folk song and thered color of women’s wedding saris dominate the daysof Teej. Women observe a fast and flock to Shivatemples where married ones pray for happy conjugallife and unmarried ones for a right husband.

IndrajatraCelebrated in August –September, the festival of Indra,the God of Rain, is observed with great enthusiasm inthe Kathmandu valley. The festival lasts for eight days.The chariot of Kumari, the living Goddess, is takenout in procession through the main streets ofKathmandu. The festival is specially noted of themasked dancers almost every evening.

Dashain (Durga Puja)Nepal’s biggest annual festival that lasts for 15 days,finishing on the full-moon day of late September orearly October, and there are a number of importantrituals right through these days. Dashain is alsoknown as Durga Puja since the festival celebratesthe victory of the goddess Durga over the forces ofevil in the guise of the buffalo demon Mahisasur. SinceDurga is a bloodthirsty goddess, the festivalis marked by the biggest animal sacrifice in the variousHindu temples and in the home to please the GoddessDurga.

Tihar (Deepawali)Known as the festival of lights, Tihar is celebrated forfive days. It is observed in the month of October orearly November. In this festival the people worshipGoddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. In otherwords, this festival is meant for life and prosperity.

Chhath Maithili- speaking people mainly celebrate this festivalin the terai region all over south of Nepal. It is observedin the sixth day following the festival of Lakshmi Pujaor Deepawali. Men and women take a dip in the localriver, lakes and worship the rising and setting sun. Thisfestival lasts for four days followed by fasting, prayingand singing hymns.

Lhosar It is the most impressively observed festival by theSherpas and Tibetan communities. It falls in the monthof February or March. The people organize folk songsand dance on this occasion. These dances can beobserved in Khumbu, Helambu and other northernregions of Nepal and also at Bouddhanath inKathmandu.

Buddha JayantiOn full moon day the Lord Buddha’s birthenlightenment and salvation are applauded throughoutthe valley with celebrations. On this day, people reachthe Stupas before dawn, go around them and giveoffering to many Buddha images there.

Places to Visit (in and around Lhasa)Lhasa: Situated at an altitude of 11,850 ft on the north bank of Kyichu river, itis a religious, cultural and economic centre of Tibet. Places of tourist interestinclude the Potala palace, Drepung and Sera Monasteries, Norbulingka; theJokhang temple, the circular Barkhor Street.

Potala Palace: Located on the hill top, it was built in 640 A.D. during thereign of Songtsan Gampo. The palace is a centre of spiritual pilgrimage andTibetan architecture. The fifth Dalai Lama, Gyelwa Ngapa began the constructionof the present Potala palace in 1645 and was completed in 1648. This 13 storiedpalace with thousand rooms rising over 117 meters served as the headquartersof the former church state of Tibet and was home to successive Dalai Lamaswho used it as their winter Palace. The palace contains invaluable murals, stupas,carvings, sculptures, cultural relics , thankas , scrolled texts and ancientchinaware.

Drepung Monastery: Situated to the west of Lhasa city, it was founded in1416 by one of the disciples of Tsong Khapa. It was the largest and richest ofthe three major yellow sect monasteries that covers an area of 250,000 sq metersin Lhasa.

Sera Monastery: Located 3 km north of Lhasa, this monastery belongs toGelugpa sect and was founded in 1419 A.D. by Jamchen Choeje , a disciple ofTsong Kapa. Sera was a monastic university which was smaller than Drepungbut similar in its layout of buildings. There are four main temples with numerouschapels dedicated to Tsong Khapa, Sakyamuni, Dharmapala, Amitabha,Yamadhaka and other deities . One of the temples constructed with 108 pillarshas an imposing statue of Maitreya Buddha.

Norbulingka: It is a large complex of small palaces and chapels served asthe summer palace of the Dalai Lamas, built at various periods from 1750. It liesabout 4 km west of the Potala palace. Its colorful garden is a favorite picnic spotand during the Shoton Festival Tibetan dances and Opera are performed here.

Jokhang Temple: It is the spiritual, religious and geographical center ofLhasa. Situated in the heart of old Lhasa , the original Jokhang was built by theemperor Songten Gampo in the 7th century. Jokhang has many chapels whichhold the statues of Jowo Shakyamuni , Amithabha Buddha , MaitreyaBuddha , Avalokiteswara , Padmashambhawa and Tsongkapa. Visit BarkhorLhasa inner pilgrim circuit shaped roughly like an octagon which round theJokhang lined with markets, shops and stalls.

Barkhor Street: The market of Barkhor circles the Jorkhang Temple. This market is the heart of Old Lhasa - a fascinating venue of people and activitieswith narrow streets, whitewashed stone homes and windows framed in blackand brightly painted wood work. Bustling flee market is the place to buysouvenirs, Tibetan handicrafts and antiques.

Ganden Monastery: Located 47 km east of Lhasa on

Wangbur mountain at an altitude of 3,800 m., this monasterybelongs to Gelugpa’s sect. It was the site where TsongKhapa first meditated in order to choose a place for themain monastery. Now it is one of the great Gelukpauniversity monasteries in Tibet.

Tsedang: Situated 170 Km southeast of Lhasa in theYarlung Valley, along the bank of the Tsangpo River, it wasthe cradle of Tibetan civilization. Tsedang is the capital townof Shannan area as well as a major tourist destination inTibet with mild climate and rich natural resources

Gyantse: It is a small agricultural town situated at an altitudeof 3950 m. and 254 km southwest of Lhasa, famous for itswool carpets and the Palkhor Choide chorten. It is the thirdlargest town in Tibet.

Namtso Lake: Lake Namtso is located about 260kilometers from Lhasa City. With over 30 kilometers fromnorth to south and over 70 kilometers from east to west,Lake Namtso covers a total area of more than 1,900 squarekilometers. The lake is the second largest salt lake in Chinaand the world’s highest-altitude salt lake as well.

Shigatse: It is known for its Tashilhunpo monastery - theseat of the Panchen Lama, who is regarded as thereincarnation of the Buddha of endless enlightenment. Thismonastery was built in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama andthis place is also popular for a bustling market at the foot ofthe ruins of the Shigatse fortress where one can buy localhandicrafts embedded with coral and turquoise, Tibetandaggers, Chinese porcelain and yak butter.

Zhangmu: Better known by a Tibetan name, Khasa, it isa small settlement clinging to a hillside 10 km inland fromthe friendship bridge across the Bhote koshi river. It is amajor trading route between Tibet and Nepal. The hillsaround Zhangmu are heavily wooded with innumerablewaterfalls in the summer and frozen `icicles’ during thewinter.
