    THE RISING STARS

    KEEP YOUR HEALTH HEALTHY

Good health is wealth. As we move into the New Year, heres a refresh on the rules ofgood health.

Rule 1: Every morning, say one positive thing about yourself to yourself. This sets the tonefor the day, and a day begun well is most likely to go well. Positive messages to yourselfhelp you improve your self esteem. For example, a positive reaffirmation can be, I am kindperson, so today I am going to be kind no matter what.

Rule 2: Begin the day with twoglasses of plain water and try andreplace 50 percent of your favouritecaffeinated beverages with greentea. By switching to green tea, you

get mega doses of antioxidantswhich are good for your heart andskin. Green tea is also easy on thestomach and the absence of caffeinekeeps you calm. Also fulfill yourhydration requirements byconsuming soups and juices.

Rule 3: Eat a meal of sprouts everysecond day. There are a powerhouseof good health, good for losingweight, protecting the liver and

enhancing the glow on your face. Sprouts can be made of alfalfa seeds, mung, lobhia andblack chana.

Rule 4: Sleep well for at least six to eight hours a night. Sleep is like medicine for the mindand body. Sleep deprivation results in premature ageing, irritability and a short temper.

Rule 5: The total elimination of fast foods, ready to eat foods and packet foods may not bepossible. But resolve to limit your consumption of these foods to just three meals a week.Such moderation will be helpful in the long run.

Rule 6: Replace 50 percent of your flour-based food with whole grain-based (such as dalia, unpolished rice, poha or dal with chilka). You get more minerals, protection against cancerand greater weight loss.

Rule 7: Drink alcohol in moderation, and gradually shift from potent liquor to fine wines. The maximum permissible level for health is two glasses of wine a day.

Rule 8:Exercise to distress and to tone your body. You should exercise not only for weightloss, but also to develop strong knees.

Rule 9:Laughter remains the best medicine.Rule 10:Say your prayers and express your gratitude every day. Prayers can heal andcorrect every hurdle in life.

    THE RISING STARSMORAL VALUES

In the world in which we live,

Where we take and where we giveIt is our duty to maintain

    stability

To the best of our skill and

    ability

    It is understood that every

    one of us

    May he be unknown orfamous

    Towards his close family

    has obligations

    And towards society and

    his relations.

    Our parents were perhaps

    less learned than we,

    But on certain things we

    must agree

In us their moral values they instilled

As our hearts and minds with wisdom they filled

My grandfather and father, besides their obligations,

Found the time to relate their stories with patience

As I owe them so much, I will try to share them with you

As my honest contribution of what I feel is worth and true.

    SENIORS SPEAK

MY DARLINGEST WINTERS: THE BEST TIMES

Numb fingersfog coming out of the mouthclothes heavier than body weightcommon expression of doingOOoHHOoHhoOo and rubbing our handsboss!! finally its winters.

The best part of the year, when even Mr. Snooze in the cell phone, feels like sleeping in the morning. The dayswhen getting out of the blanket, is as difficult as getting apart from someone really very dear to us. Right fromthe beginning of the day when we keep our innocent and warm legs onto the floor colder than ice bed till the bedtime when often each one of us is found making our place in front of the heaters, the days goes just awesomeblossom. Specially, for the girls, to be more specific, the season makes them look even more beautiful andsweet. In cosmetics used during winters, I guess everyone prefers moisturizer and cold creams on their faces.Yes, of course, who prefers to use coconut oil these days, and that too on the face!! Yukkychip-chipatypesright!!

Nature looks so mind-boggling in the morning that there is no need of anyone else to lay our eyes upon.Standing in the balcony, observing the tiny leaves of the potted plant, covered with frost and few dew drops,

typical heavenly sight.Moving on to the evening time, its lovely to go out with the friends to some Chinese outlet and have noodles(extra spicy), ending with soup. Sorry, but I wont mention momos because I literally hate them. When talking ofwinter cuisines, how can we forget the all time famous, garam garam pakode.wow, just yummy!!

Slightly talking apart, in India, I feel really very helpless when I see poor and needy people sleeping on theroadside with naked bodies. No clothes to wear in this season too. Actually life taking! I really feel pity for them.I know, my pity wont work here. But what to do, human tendency. I know I really get emotional at times, butanyway.

Now certain pieces of free advice from the STUDENT EDITORS side:

Firstly, hear what your mommy says about wearing the number of clothes on the body (Laugh out loud)

Let mommy put some extra ghee on your chapattis. Believe me its really going to relieve you from cold. The most important one, dont forget to take CHAVANPRASHan authentic antidote for the sensitive ones

to get away from the chill.

For the fatty ones, just dance and see the magic.

I can give you a lot more advice, but, as usual, space is less. So just wait for the next edition. Till then, enjoy yourwinters, just a little more than you usually do.

PORTRAIT OF A FRIENDI cant give solutions to all

Of lifes problems, doubts or fears.

But I can listen to you,

And together we will search for answer.

    I cant change your past

With all its heartache and pain,

Or the future with its untold stories.

But I can be there now, when you need me to care.

I cant keep your feet, from stumbling.

I can only offer my hand

That you may grasp it not fall.

    Your joys, triumphs, successes,

    And happiness are not mine.

Yet, I can share in your laughter.

Your decisions in life are not

Mine to make, nor to judge.

I can only support you, encourage you,

And help you when you ask.

I cant prevent you from falling

Away from friendship, and your values, from me.

I can only pray for you, talk to you and wait for you.

    I cant give you boundaries,

Which I have determined for you.

But I can give you the room to change,

Room to grow, room to be yourself.

    I cant keep your heart

From breaking or hurting. But I can cry with you

And help you pick up the pieces

And put them back in place.

I cant tell you who you are.

I can only love you and be your friend. Deeksha Bajaj
