Murder Victims with Message Signed by Los Zetas Recovered along Highway near Canoas, Nuevo
Leon – 21 August 2011
During the afternoon of 20 August 2011, authorities recovered the
bodies of two male murder victims from two separate vehicles that
were abandoned on a dirt road at the 219 kilometer along the National
Highway near Canoas [25.221792,-99.9331], Nuevo Leon. The two
murder victims recovered from the scene were identified as follows:
Federico Suárez Tamez, a Red Cross paramedic in Allende. He
was recovered from the interior of a white GMC SUV.
His son, Omar Suárez. He was recovered from the interior of a white Toyota pickup.
Narco messages were affixed to the windshields, while the letter “Z” was spray painted onto the doors of
both vehicles (see picture above). Given this, it is believed that Los Zetas are most likely responsible for
the murders.

COAHUILA Stray Bullets from Shootout Enter Soccer Stadium in Torreon, Coahuila – 22 August 2011
On 20 August 2011, a confrontation between municipal police and gunmen took place approximately one
kilometer from the Corona/Territorio Santos Modelo Stadium [25.630383,-103.380318] located along
Federal Highway 30 (approximately 7 kilometers northeast of Torreon, Coahuila). Stray bullets from this
incident subsequently entered the stadium, causing panic amongst the fans. According to authorities, the
gunmen involved in this attack had no intentions of entering the stadium, and the fact that the stray bullets
managed to enter into this area was purely coincidental.

Remains of Three Dismembered Murder Victims Recovered near El Faisán, Nuevo Leon – 22
August 2011
During the afternoon on 22 August 2011, an anonymous tip alerted authorities to the human remains of
three dismembered male murder victims that were abandoned along National Highway 85 near the exit to
El Faisán [25.506968,-100.196214] in Nuevo Leon. El Faisán is located between Santiago and
Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The same tip informed authorities that the bodies pertain to police officers, but
at this point, this information has not been corroborated.

Authorities Arrest Four Individuals Preparing to Kidnap and Dismember a Rival Gang Member in
Monterrey, Nuevo Leon – 22 August 2011
On 18 August 2011, soldiers arrested four individuals that were
sitting in a parked vehicle at the Bodega Aurrerá store on Julio
Camelo and Aztlán Avenue [25.748434,-100.361609] in the
Valle de Santa Lucía neighborhood of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
Following their arrests, the now detained individuals admitted
that they were preparing to kidnap and kill a rival gang member
and dismember him in the interior of the vehicle in which they
were sitting. Following the dismembering, they planned to leave
a narco message on his throat with a message signed by “La
Guera”. Those individuals now in custody were identified as:

On 22 August 2011 at around 1400 hours, unknown
assailants attacked four individuals that were sitting in a
vehicle near Camino al Mirador Street and Lázaro Cárdenas
Avenue [25.630055,-100.299232] in the Paseo Residencial
neighborhood of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. Those individuals
killed/injured as a consequence of this attack were identified
as:
Misael Vázquez, 17, killed
Cristian Ubaldo Cantú Martínez, 17, killed
Juan Manuel (No last name reported), 23, injured
Guadalupe (No last name reported), 17, injured
No arrests were made in conjunction with this attack.

On 21 August 2011 at around 1300 hours,
authorities were called to the residence of
Ricardo Cruz García, a City Hall Official, in
Ciudad Mante [22.745156,-98.975143],
Tamaulipas. Once at the scene, it was
confirmed that Cruz García had been killed,
and appeared to have been brutally tortured
before the murder.

12 Killed following Confrontation between Soldiers and Gunmen in Jalpa, Zacatecas – 23 August
2011
On 21 August 2011, Army soldiers repelled an attack initiated by gunmen traveling aboard multiple
vehicles in Jalpa [21.631899,-102.984467], Zacatecas. The confrontation and subsequent pursuits lasted
a few hours, during which time the following incidents transpired:
Eleven suspects were killed. Of these individuals, four were killed after they accidentally
dropped a grenade which detonated inside of their vehicle.
One soldier was killed while another three were wounded.
Eight suspects were arrested to include four men, three women, and one female minor
Immediate details regarding weapons and vehicles seized during the incident were not reported.

During the afternoon on 22 August 2011, a confrontation
between soldiers and gunmen was reported at the exit to the
city center of Jalpa [approximate location 21.656391,-

Jalpa and Federal Highway 54). Following this incident, it
was reported that two suspects and one soldiers were killed

J.L., and wants DEA agents to know that they will be killed for sticking their noses where they don’t
belong. Be careful because the war has started you motherfucking gringos. Sincerely, El Gato.”

Decomposing Bodies Recovered from Clandestine Grave in Chihuahua – 21 August 2011
Authorities recovered the bodies of two individuals in an advanced state of
decomposition from a clandestine grave that was discovered on 57th and
Sierra Las Lagartijas Street [28.631071,-106.015534] in the Primero de
Mayo neighborhood. No additional information regarding this grave or

Three Severed Heads Recovered in Acapulco, Guerrero – 22 August 2011
Over the weekend of 20-21 August 2011, the severed heads of two males and one female were recovered
from a vehicle that was abandoned on Cuauhtemoc Avenue, a few meters from the Maxi tunnel, in the El
Roble neighborhood [16.867634,-99.874306] of Acapulco, Guerrero. A narco message was left with the
victims, however, at this point its content not been revealed.
Comment: The area in which the severed heads were recovered is a common dropping point for the
remains of dismembered murder victims which are reportedly recovered from this sector on almost a
daily basis.

Soldiers Seize 1,325 Kilograms of Marijuana in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora – 21 August 2011
On 21 August 2011, soldiers seized 1,325 kilograms of marijuana after searching a 1995 Kenworth
tractor-trailer that was stopped at the Estación Doctor military checkpoint. This checkpoint is located
along the Golfo de Santa Clara-San Luis Río Colorado Highway in San Luis Colorado [32.4737-
114.7635], Sonora. Arrested in conjunction with this seizure was the driver of the vehicle, identified as
Juan Roberto RUIZ Gómez, 28.

BAJA CALIFORNIA Marines Seize 127.4 Kilograms of Marijuana off the Coast of Ensenada, Baja California – 22
August 2011
On 20 August 2011, Marines assigned to the 2nd
Naval Region responded to the report of the vessel in
distress some 80 nautical miles west of Ensenada [31.8599-116.6062], Baja California. Once at the
location in question, authorities noted the three occupants in the boat attempting to remove excess water
from the vessel. At the same time, they noted packages of what appeared to be marijuana floating around
the boat. These packages were recovered, and once on shore authorities reported the quantity seized as
127.4 kilograms. Arrested in conjunction with this seizure were three Mexican nationals identified as:

Joint Operation between Colombian and Honduran Authorities Leads to the Seizure of 470
Kilograms of Cocaine in Honduras – 19 August 2011
On 19 August 2011, Colombian authorities noted an aircraft leaving the country without having filed a
flight plan or receiving any type of authorization. While surveilling this aircraft, it became evident that
was traveling towards Honduras. Shortly after this realization, Colombian soldiers informed Honduran
authorities of the situation, which allowed them to set up an operation to continue following the plane.
Once it landed in Honduran territory, authorities immediately surrounded it, and were able to seize 470
kilograms of cocaine.
Comment: The area in which this plane landed in Honduras was not reported.

On 20 August 2011, an operation conducted by PCD officers a warehouse located about 800 meters from
the Juan Santamaria International Airport [9.996915,-84.207115] led to the seizure of cocaine that had
been packaged in the interior of hollowed out screws. The total weight of the screws and the cocaine was

SENAN personnel recently seized 124 kilograms of cocaine from a 25-foot go-fast boat operating near a
pier in the Bahía de Panamá [8.954729,-79.536102]. Arrested in conjunction with the seizure were two
Colombian nationals identified as:
