Launceston The ancient market town of Launceston is known as "The Gateway to
Cornwall" and was once the capital of Cornwall.
Located on the Cornwall and Devon border, lying between two moors,
Bodmin and Dartmoor, the town is quintessentially Cornish, with itsGeorgian houses, intricately carved church, narrow granite lined streetsand market square.
Launceston Castle, built after the Norman Conquest, dominates the townand skyline. The castle once protected the route into Cornwall. In the 17th
century the castle was used as the assizes and the north Gatehouse wasused as a jail.
Today Launceston is an excellent location from which to explore Cornwalland Devon. Situated in the tranquil countryside of the beautiful Tamar
Valley, yet close to dramatic coast lines and glorious sandy
beaches, important houses and gardens, the area offers an abundanceof history and heritage to explore and experience.

Launceston CollegeLaunceston College is a specialist Technology College, a status which we achieved in 1998 and the period sincethen has seen significant improvements. We are very proud of all these achievements and have a commitment toimproving still further. This was highlighted last summer when we saw the best set of exam results that has everbeen achieved by a group of Year 11 students at Launceston College. We are determined to make LauncestonCollege an outstanding College for the 21st Century, we are convinced that this is possible and we are well on theway to making it a reality. We believe that the most vital part of any school is the people who make it what it is. Our students enjoy beinghere and we have a strong team of staff at the College who are united in encouraging students to work hard, toachieve their best and to respect others. To do this we believe that students need to be fully challenged andsupported within a caring environment. We are committed to the pursuit of individual excellence andachievement but strive to ensure that no-one is left behind. We have a firm belief in the potential for growth anddevelopment of all our students and value the education of each and every student as being equally important.
We believe that students should have all their achievements recognised, acknowledged and given credit.
We believe in the education of the whole person and try to provide a range of experiences which promote thespiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our students; we see internationalism as a key part of ourwork at the College and provide opportunities for students to visit and communicate with young people fromdifferent cultures and backgrounds.Launceston College is a special and unique place: you will discover this when you visit and feel the friendlyatmosphere which radiates through every part of the College. If you cannot find the information that you needon this website, pick up the phone or e-mail us and we will be happy to help.

Launceston College The College is run in a well-disciplined, orderly and respectful manner, we have
rules and we expect students to follow them but at all times try to be fair, weexpect high standards of behaviour because the College should be a civilisedplace where students can learn.
We are a large College (1400 students) and try to be inclusive for all ourstudents, we have an Area Resource Base, (the Castle Unit), on our site foryoung people with learning difficulties and our big Sixth Form, (250 students)every year has students achieve places at the best universities in the country. Toensure that we can meet the needs of all of our students we have a wide range of
resources and programmes, these include in addition to the full range oftraditional courses a College Construction Unit, (on the local industrial estate),and in September 2010 we opened our training Hotel on the College site with afully functioning hotel with fine dining facilities based in the former VictorianHeadmasters house and boarding accommodation. We also work inpartnership with other institutions in North Cornwall to ensure that we provide
a full range of opportunities to meet the needs and aspirations of all of ourstudents.
