• Participants play a more active role in their prenatal care
• Attitude of group members can often be changed more easily through group interaction than by direct teaching of individuals.
• Individuals can be isolated; groups help build community.
• More time efficient for mom and staff • Groups are cost-effective since they
provide for an efficient use of professional time.

The IU National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health (COE), Women’s Wellness on Wheels (WOW ) Bus is a statewide outreach program to raise awareness and improve the status of women’s health in Indiana through education and screening. By partnering with the local public health departments, hospital health systems, medical societies, and other non-profit agencies, we are able to direct the women to health care in their own community

I received my baby bed, car seat, high chair, and many more things for my baby (earned with B.A.B.E. coupons).” Would you recommend the program to a friend? “Yes, I would recommend it to the world. It has been a blessing to me and my baby, Jacqueline.” What are your future goals? “My goals are to finish college and get a job in the medical field.”

“My name is Lakesha, and I participate in the Indianapolis Healthy Start program. It is a helpful program. They teach you to be a good mother. I think this program should be world wide due to unfit parents. I believe if they reached out to more of us, there would be less kids in the system. I would recommend this program to all teen moms.”
