However, it is also important to enjoy the sun’s beneficial rays, as the body craves them. The facility is continuing to improve its appearance as our Lobby project draws to a close this month. When the final touches are added, it will be beautiful, welcoming and comfortable. With that complete, we can look forward to our next outside picnic around the Labor Day holiday. We had great success and turnout at our 4th of July picnic, with great BBQ, music and summer festive cheer. I am sure our residents can’t wait for the next one! We honor our centenarian, Jane Webster. Ms. Webster was born in Honduras on August 7, 1916. While growing up, she always exhibited a yearning to help others. She was a prominent member of the Methodist Church were she sang in the choir and acted as the church representative in the absence of the minister. Ms. Webster worked in the food kitchen, feeding those in need. She was also known for her great talent in crocheting, as well. Ms. Webster was one of the oldest citizens in her town and was honored by her church and mayor in 2016. Ms. Webster moved to the United States in 2016. One year later, she became a member of the Laurel Square family. A NOTE FROM... Dr. Mortimer Strong Medical Director Cancer screening in the 70-ish patient: Many women over 70 feel they are too old for a screening mammography. Before you decide to stop having your yearly mammogram, consider that even if a lesion is found, it can usually be removed under local anesthesia (Novocain) and will possibly be all that is needed to treat the lesion. This is a short procedure, after which the patient goes home.

SUMMER SCRABBLE

MARSHMALLOW SWIRL S’MORES BARS

Ingredients

Instructions

• 1/2 cup butter, room temperature• 2/3 cup light brown sugar• 1 egg• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

• 1/4 teaspoon salt• 1 cup flour• 3/4 cup fine graham cracker crumbs• 1/2 cup marshmallow creme• 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line an 8X8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.

2. Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl. Stir in egg and vanilla. Stir in baking soda, salt, flour, and graham cracker crumbs.

3. Press 3/4 of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Spread the marshmallow creme evenly on top of the dough layer. Sprinkle an even layer of chocolate chips over the marshmallow creme layer.

4. Using your fingers, crumble remaining dough in an even layer over the top.

5. Bake 20 minutes. Allow to cool before serving.
