THELaurel Square Ledger
From Our AdministratorAs the “dog days” of summer continue into August, please heed another reminder to stay cool by drinking plenty of fluids and protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. However, it is also important to enjoy the sun’s beneficial rays, as the body craves them. The facility is continuing to improve its appearance as our Lobby project draws to a close this month. When the final touches are added, it will be beautiful, welcoming and comfortable. With that complete, we can look forward to our next outside picnic around the Labor Day holiday. We had great success and turnout at our 4th of July picnic, with great BBQ, music and summer festive cheer. I am sure our residents can’t wait for the next one!

Resident of the Month;Jane WebsterLaurel Square celebrates an individual who has brightened the lives of people around the world for over a century. We honor our centenarian, Jane Webster. Ms. Webster was born in Honduras on August 7, 1916. While growing up, she always exhibited a yearning to help others. She was a prominent member of the Methodist Church were she sang in the choir and acted as the church representative in the absence of the minister. Ms. Webster worked in the food kitchen, feeding those in need. She was also known for her great talent in crocheting, as well. Ms. Webster was one of the oldest citizens in her town and was honored by her church and mayor in 2016. Ms. Webster moved to the United States in 2016. One year later, she became a member of the Laurel Square family.
a note from...Dr. Mortimer StrongMedical Director
Cancer screening in the 70-ish patient:Many women over 70 feel they are too old for a screening mammography. Before you decide to stop having your yearly mammogram, consider that even if a lesion is found, it can usually be removed under local anesthesia (Novocain) and will possibly be all that is needed to treat the lesion. This is a short procedure, after which the patient goes home.
