As the term draws to a close it is worth reflecting on what has been a very busy and productive period
in the improvement evolution of the College. The reinstatement of the fire hydrants has stage 2 com-
pleted which is a concrete pour of 65 cubic meters to form the pad for the water tanks. A big thank you
to the staff and community members who assisted the process with alternative parking arrangements
and access to the pool and gymnasium.
The relocation of our flexible learning program and restructuring of teaching and learning programs
has been a major focus during the third term. This has been a true team effort. This has resulted in pro-
grams that fully support our reengagement students and provide authentic pathways to further educa-
tion and employment.
The continued implementation and development of our Outdoor Education Program led by Georgina
Sheens has been a big success. A number of activities including surfing, bush walking and over-night
camps have been undertaken by students from both campuses. Currently the focus is on delivering
VCAL Certificate level programs and we are confident that in 2020 we will offer VCE subjects under the
umbrella of Outdoor Education. We are talking with some Colac and a metropolitan school who have
expressed interest in sharing programs and facilities in the future.
As part of our endeavours to continue to build school pride and foster a positive school image, we are
redesigning the College sports and general use school uniforms. The intent is to introduce improved
designs that are more cost effective for parents, combine durability, and met the demands of local
weather conditions and environment. Students are fully involved in this process. Parents and College
Council will be consulted and the final designs will be slowly introduced to ensure that families are not
burdened by unnecessary additional costs.
Final preparations for our students who are participating in the Victorian Young Leaders to Indonesia
Program are underway with a MOU having been signed off. Josh Zanker will accompany our 3 students
to Indonesia as part of a larger group of 40 students who have been draw from 13 other schools.
Thursday afternoon the Lavers Hill K-12 College Music Festival was conducted with wonderful support
from parents, students, staff and community members. It was firstly a celebration of the talents and
endeavour of staff and students and secondly it was an opportunity to come together and share a com-
mon bond which is our College. As I looked around at the pride of parents in their students and the
comradery between the students I was again reminded that these are the precious moments indeed.
The last week has seen a series of formal and informal acknowledgements of the career and contribu-
tion of our esteemed English teacher Susan Collingbourne upon her retirement. Susan has been teach-
ing for 47 years across 3 continents extending from the green and pleasant lands of England to the ec-
lectic and vibrant Thailand and finally across metropolitan and rural Australia. So it is as so often in life,
a time of mixed emotions when we say goodbye to Susan who has touched so many lives, over such a
long period and in so many ways. She will be remembered well!
Finally, a big thank you to our staff, students and families who continue to work collaboratively to en-
sure the best learning outcomes for our students. I hope that everyone enjoys the holiday break. I
would also like to express my appreciation in advance of all the work that will be undertaken by staff
over the holidays in preparation for the third term.

Sayembara Lisan
(Indonesian Speaking Competition)
On the 1st of June, four students representing Lavers Hill K-12 College travelled to Melbourne to
compete in the annual Indonesian Speaking Competition (Sayembara Lisan). These students
were Mason Williamson, Claire Dance, Treah Guest-Johnson, and Jasper Newton. This event
allows Indonesian students to showcase their Indonesian skills in one-on-one interviews, songs,
poetry, and readings. To reach this level, students first competed in a regional event, before
then being invited to compete against Indonesian students from across the state.
We had a total of ten students invited to participate in the State finals which is a remarkable
achievement for our school.
Two of our students did exceptionally well, with Jasper Newton and Claire Dance receiving
placings in their respective age groups. Claire received ‘Highly Commended’ while Jasper
finished Second in the state. Last Friday, these two students and their families travelled up to
Melbourne to collect their awards on stage. Well done to the both of you! And a huge thank
you also to the parents that made the trip to Melbourne and supported our students; it is such a
great opportunity and we could not have done it without you.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS and see you in term 3
Pathways Information Afternoon
STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN YEARS 9, 10 AND 11
A meeting will be held for all parents, carers and students currently in Year 9, 10 and 11 on
Monday 5 August at 1.30 in the Lavers Hill K -12 College canteen.
This meeting will deal with possible pathways of study/training for students about to enter the senior school.
A current handbook has been produced outlining options for students for the purposes of this meeting.
It is vital that all attend because senior students need to make some important decisions about the direction that their senior
education will take. The meeting will be conducted by Keith McIntosh (VCE Coordi-nator) and Patricia Crilly (Pathways and Transition Coordinator).
The meeting will last for no longer than 1 hour and an afternoon tea (sandwiches and tea) will be provided.
