CONSTRUCTION

As the Metro-Atlanta region continues to expand, opportunities for skilled laborers in the ever-growing construction industry will also continue to rise. Starting salaries for entry-level skilled workers are excellent and your potential for career growth is virtually unlimited. The Construction program at Maxwell will prepare you for a wide variety of entry-level careers in the construction industry or for further education in the field. In this program, you will receive instruction in core areas including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical wiring. Teamwork and safety are primary focuses in this course. Strict safety rules and procedures will be followed at all times. In addition to exploring construction theories and math in the classroom, you will apply your new knowledge in the construction lab with hands-on activities in a true-to-life job-site atmosphere. Activities include roughing-in a bathroom with all plumbing and fixtures or framing wall, roof, and flooring systems. Technical Apprenticeships are available to seniors that complete the program curriculum in their junior year. Through the SkillsUSA competition, you will have a chance to put your new skills to the test in local, regional, and national competitions. Service-learning projects, such as assisting with Habitat for Humanity home building, will provide you with real-world construction experience and help you contribute to our community.

Maxwell’s Construction program is certified by the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA) and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Strong relationships with the industry and post-secondary education are maintained to stay current with trends, tools, and technology.
