Specifying Thermal Performance (STD-201RS)Insist on cooling towers and closed circuit fluid coolers withthermal ratings that are third-party-certified by the CoolingTechnology Institute (CTI) by including the following phrasein your next specification: "The cooling towers, inclusiveof all accessories and soundreduction options, shall beCTI certified under standard201RS (STD-201RS).” Refer tothe back cover for more detailson CTI certification and how it protects consultants, contractors, and end users.

Design Registration of Heat Transfer CoilsIn accordance with Australian regulations all manufacturers, importers, and suppliers of certain pressure equipment mustnot supply such equipment unless it has been DesignRegistered with an Australian authority having responsibilityfor plant safety. With regards to Industrial Refrigeration,HVAC, and Industrial Process pressure equipment, DesignRegistration is required for all evaporative closed circuit fluidcoolers and evaporative condensers where the Hazard Levelis determined as A, B, C, or D according to AS 4343-2005:Pressure Equipment – Hazard Levels.

The coil design used in EVAPCO's closed circuit coolers andevaporative condensers has been Design Verified andRegistered with an Australian WorkSafe Authority. Protectyourself by insisting to see a manufacturer’s government-issued Certificate of Plant Design Registration by a State,Commonwealth, or Territory authority responsible for plantsafety.

SPECIFICATION AND CERTIFICATION

Sound Microphone location1.5m above the cooling towerfan cowl edge at a 45º angle.

This position assures accuratesound measurements byeliminating a source ofuncertainty by taking themicrophone out of the highvelocity fan discharge air.

Containerised EquipmentHundreds of EVAPCO models are designed to ship fully orpartially assembled in standard shipping containers. Thisfeature reduces the delivered cost of the equipment withoutsacrificing quality or innovation by reducing the non-value-add costs of transportation & handling. Maximise your kW ofheat rejection per dollar by asking your local EVAPCO salesrepresentative for EXW EVAPCO Shanghai pricing on all ofyour small-to-medium sized projects within Australia andNew Zealand.

Super Low Sound FanWhen tasked with achieving the lowest sound levels possible, there’s only one choice: the EVAPCO super low sound fanwhich combines the energy efficiency of an axial fan with thequietness of a centrifugal fan. Made of heavy-duty reinforcedpolyester, the fan’s ultra-wide chord blades have a forwardswept design and rounded edges to minimize the soundcaused by flow separation and vortex shedding. The end result is a sound pressure level that’s 9 to 15 dB(A) lower–more than 50%lower–than standard fans (dependingon specific unit selection andmeasurement location). Best of all, thesuper low sound fan is CTI certifiedand has zero impact on thermalperformance.

Compliant with Australian StandardsSpecific legislation exists in Australia and New Zealandregarding the design of cooling towers, closed circuit fluidcoolers, and evaporative condensers. Many of therequirements exceed international standards and suppliersmust take special precaution to ensure compliance. EVAPCOhas taken steps to certify its equipment designs whererequired so that customers can rest assured that their capitalequipment complies with all standards relevant toevaporative cooling equipment:

• AS/NZS 3666.1:2011 “Air-handling and water systems of buildings - Microbial control - Design, installation and commissioning”

• AS 1657-2013 “Fixed platforms, walkways, stairways and ladders - Design, construction and installation”

• AS 1210-2010 “Pressure vessels”

Specifying Sound Performance (ATC-128)CTI has a standard for the “Measurement of Sound FromWater Cooling Towers” which should be considered by aconsulting engineer when specifying cooling tower sound ona project. When an engineer simply specifies sound powerlevel rather than sound pressure level at a particular distanceand location it becomes difficult to make an apples-to-applescomparison between suppliers. Specifying power alone givesmanufacturers an opportunity to apply different assumptionsto their data thereby making it difficult for end users tounderstand the actual sound characteristics of the as-builtinstallation. Ensure that all manufacturers are representedequally and that the sound data accurately reflects the as-built installation by including the following phrase in yournext specification: "Cooling tower sound performance shallbe provided in pressure dB(A) measured 1.5 metres abovethe fan discharge during full speed fan operation withwater running in accordance with CTI acceptance testcode 128 (ATC-128)."

PRODUCTS AND DESIGN FEATURES

Superior Materials of ConstructionNext Generation Fibreglass: EVAPCO focuses on continuous improvement and is committed to developing the most innovativeproducts in the industry. In keeping with this commitment, EVAPCO's MT product line is the first cooling tower in the industry tofeature composite fibreglass panels formed entirely by an advanced, environmentally friendly, LRTM closed mould manufacturingprocess. All aspects of the MT series, from concept to design to manufacture, are performed “in-house” and by EVAPCO. Theadvantages of this process include high quality solid laminate construction, uniform part thickness, low part variation, complexshapes, and reduced styrene emissions.

Industrial Grade Steel: The heavy gauge mill hot-dip galvanised steel panels used on EVAPCO products are coated withapproximately 725 grams of zinc per square metre of area (G235 designation) which is 165% more zinc protection than competitorsusing Z-275 and nearly 300% more than competitors using SuperDyma K18. EVAPCO also offers type 304 stainless steel and type316 stainless steel as upgrades to G235 galvanised steel due to their superior corrosion resistance and versatility in harshenvironments, particularly in the presence of high levels of chlorides. Some competitors offer type 301 stainless steel, often

marketed as “300 Series” stainless steel, which contains lower chromium levels than SS304and SS316 resulting in a thinner protective layer of chromium-oxide and decreased overallcorrosion protection. Inferior grade steel can lead to premature corrosion and reducedequipment life, negatively affecting the life expectancy and performance of the overallsystem and impacting the end user’s bottom line. Longevity of this capital equipment can beattributed to proper water treatment, routine maintenance, and superior materials ofconstruction. Consult the “Recommend Water Chemistry Guidelines” in EVAPCO's Operation& Maintenance Manual and let EVAPCO help you make an informed choice on the materialsof construction for each project.

Industry-Leading WarrantyAll EVAPCO products come with a five(5) year motor & drive warranty asstandard. The MTT series of FRPcooling towers comes with a ten (10)year comprehensive unit warrantywhen upgraded with all stainless steelcomponents.

Variable Flow Rate NozzlesThe pressurised water distribution systems inEVAPCO counterflow cooling towers come withvariable flow rate EvapJet™ nozzles capable of atleast 50% turndown flow rate as standard. Theversatile nature of this nozzle gives the end user thebest opportunity to reduce pump energy duringperiods of low heat load. The maintenance-friendlydesign utilises wide non-clogging orifices and doesnot contain any moving parts. Contact your localsales representative for equipment selectionsrequiring even lower turndown flowrates.
