LAYOUT TALKGangajal

Gangajal, the water of the Holy Ganges has a great significance in the Indian Tradition. No ceremony from birth to death is complete with out the use of gangajal. Gangajal is believed to be very rich in good positive vibrations capable of healing or washing away sanchit karmas or paap karmas of the devotee. Wherever gangajal is sprinkled, it frees that place of demons, evil thoughts and negetive energies. It is widely used in various ayurvedic and healing practices for curing a number of diseases.

Ganga has a long theological history too as also is coupled with aspects of science. Ganga water, Gangajal, has certain chemical qualities. Many scientific tests on its chemical contents have been carried out which have proved authentically that Gangajal is enriched with many extraordinary healing properties. Indian environmentalists have also confirmed that Gangajal has super self-cleaning properties. It has clearly been observed that owing to its self cleaning properties this water does not deteriorate or loose its dignified values even if it is kept in closed vessels for years . Scientif ic observations have also revealed that the soil deposited by its waters on the banks is mingled with fertile and medicinal characteristics.

Islamic Banking Amidst Casino CapitalismIndia: The global financial crisis and the focus on casino capitalism of the West made banking experts of Arab world to think of an interest-free Islamic banking in India. It is known that India has the th i rd l a rges t Mus l im population. Excessive and fraudulent lending had led to a series crises. Islam disagrees with debt and charging of interest on debt. The new banking system will develop the society and it is consistent with the principles of Islamic law (Sharia) which prohibi ts the payment or acceptance of interest for the lending and accepting of money respectively. After the global meltdown, India, the world's second fastest growing economy, is certainly a safe investment for Arab countries. The interest-free Islamic banking is finding greater recognition even in China which has around 80 million Muslims.

Our Eastern Neighbour Ready to Take OffBangladesh: Bangladesh plans to buy fighter planes, surface-to-air missiles, surface-to-air missile sy s t em, a i r de fense r ada r, helicopters, a squadron of fighter planes and a number of military equipments in the coming year. Bangladesh is about to call international tenders to purchase these things.

Indian and Bangladesh have issues with each other in spite diplomatic relations prevailing between the two. India's concerns over the Eastern neighbour include: (1) Rebels from northeast Indian states who operate with impunity from Bangladeshi territory. (2) The growing influence and activities of P a k i s t a n ' s I n t e r - S e r v i c e s Intelligence and Al Qaeda in Dhaka. (3) Rapidly rising fundamentalism and anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh. (4) Increasing cross-border traffic in drugs, arms, women, children, and cattle. (5) The mushrooming madrassas springing up along the border, many funded by Pakistani and Saudi Arabian 'charities'. (6) Repeated skirmishes between India's Border Security Force and the Bangladesh Rifles over disputed territory and the latter's attempts to stop the fencing work being undertaken by India. (7) Dhaka's perpetual refusal to grant transit rights and permission to Indian companies like Tata to set up shop there.

Bangladesh always denies these

charges and accuses India of bullying its smaller neighbour, interfering in its internal affairs, starving it of water and sheltering Bangladeshi criminals.

India liberated Bangladesh in 1971, and around that time, India w a s v e r y m u c h l i k e d i n Bangladesh. The way majority of the Bangladeshis hate India now is the same way Jamaat-e-Islam, the religious fundamentalist party, used to hate India. This Jamaat-e-Islam party has come a long way. In India, even though the effect of Hindu nationalism is dying away slowly, in Bangladesh Islamic fundamentalism is rising. Now in Bangladesh you have to show that you are dedicated towards the Islamic cause in order for you to get votes. On the other hand, in India a political party has to show that it is secular in order to get the votes of undecided voters."

India needs to be cautious in tackling terrorist activities in neighbouring borders.

A great artist is always before his time or behind it.

MIND WORKS-21ART OF LISTENINGBy UK Athikkal-----------Look around us. We come across conflicts and misunderstandings caused due to incorrect handling of our interpersonal relationships. These situations are witnessed at our homes, in our work place and even on the roads. There is one common cause at the root of all these situations. Inappropriate or insufficient listening skills of the majority of the of the people involved in such situations. U n f o r t u n a t e l y i n a l l o u r communication trainings emphasis is given more to speaking skills rather than listening skills. The distinction between listening and hearing is to be clearly understood in this context. Hearing is a mechanical process where the organs concerned do function with out affecting mind or body where as in the case of listening it is our mental focus and attention that is important. Studies have established that not even ten percent of what we hear is listened to since the receiver's mind is focused in evaluating and judging the issues rather than paying unbiased attention to what is listened to.

Now we shall have a detailed look at our listening skills. We can divide the type of listening in to three different categories. Intellectual Listening:- This is the type of listening one does, who feels that they already know it. One might have read about the topic or heard it from someone else certain aspects of the topic. That need not preclude us from giving our full attention with curiosity. What happens when we pour water in to a tumbler which is

already full? Whatever quantity is poured is spilled over. Nearly one third of the population does indulge in this type of listening as a habit. Emotional Listening:- This is a sort of partial listening. You listen to the topic with full emotional involvement and excitement. But, immediately after that, the whole issue is given an unconscious burial. I have witnessed management students listening to guest lectures from well known corporate personalities with full vigor and enthusiasm. At the end of the session they represent for organizing further lectures from the same guest speaker. But, alas the very next day a good percentage of those who listened interestingly are not able to remember any of the essential points of the talk.Whole Body Listening Here you listen with your full sensory participation. You see the event in front, when you listen. You feel the event as it is just happening in front of you. Then meditate over the issue there by absorbing the whole matter. It is called focused listening and during this process you practically cut off yourself from the rest of the world. Whole body listening enables creation of rapport between the persons involved and that enhances the effectiveness of the communication process. This can assist in creating harmonious relationship and prevent flaring up of problems and issues. This column is written by U K Athikkal, a Life Skill Coach and a Certified Trainer and Practitioner of N L P. Veni, Vidi, ViciAECS Layout : Dr. Paresh Manore, a neurotherapist, dietician and nutrition specialist began to treat patients 4 months before in AECS Layout. He was not known to many before but now people from various parts of Bangalore approach him for a remedy. He is

becoming popular because of his ability to cure patients. He moved his clinic from C Block to E Block, Hema Children's Clinic building. The new place has ample space for treating more patients at once. Patients come from distant places to benefit from the drugless therapy. Neurotherapy is a branch of alternative medicine evolved by Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra to treat diseases without drugs. It has been proven successful in treating diseases such as neck, knee, low back ache, anxiety, s tress, tension and depression, computer reaction syndrome, Asthma, Diabetes, high and low blood pressure and menstrual problems in women.

Poisonous Snails to Offer PainkillersThe next generation of pain killing drugs may be hidden in poisonous sea snails found off Australia's coastline, according to researchers. Professor David Adams, director of the Health Innovations Research Institute at Melbourne's RMIT, briefed that the snails contain a cocktail of powerful agents, called peptides, in their venom, which can be used to treat pain in humans. Researchers are trying to

isolate those agents in a bid to develop a less problematic alternative to morphine. In some of the old medical reports where people have been stung by these cone snails, they don't feel pain, most of them die because of respiratory paralysis. In a way nature has done a lot of the work, these peptides are designed to target receptors in pain pathways. The scientists job is just to find them and put them to use.
