I send you the olive leafwhich we have pluckedfrom the Tree of Paradise, the Lords message ofpeace to us; for though our brethren in Zion indulgein feelings towards us, which are not according tothe requirements of the new covenant, yet, we havethe satisfaction of knowing that the Lord approvesof us, and has accepted us, and established His name inKirtland for the salvation of the nations.

The other Comforter spoken of is a subject of greatinterest, and perhaps understood by few of thisgeneration. After a person has faith in Christ, repents of his sins, and is baptized for the remissionof his sins and receives the Holy Ghost, (by thelaying on of hands), which is the first Comforter, then let him continue to humble himself before God, hungeringand thirsting after righteousness, and living by every word ofGod, and the Lord will soon say unto him, Son, thou shalt be

exalted. When the Lord has thoroughly proved him, and findsthat the man is determined to serve Him at all hazards, thenthe man will find his calling and his election made sure, then itwill be his privilege to receive the other Comforter, which the

Lord hath promised the Saints. [Quotes John 14:1618, 21, 23.]

Now what is this other Comforter? It is no morenor less that the Lord Jesus Christ Himself; and thisis the sum and substance of the whole matter; thatwhen any man obtains this last Comforter, he willhave the personage of Jesus Christ to attend him, or

appear unto him from time to time, and even Hewill manifest the Father unto him, and they will take up theirabode with him, and the visions of the heavens will be openedunto him, and the Lord will teach him face to face, and he may

have a perfect knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom ofGod; and this is the state and place the ancient Saints arrivedat when they had such glorious visionsIsaiah, Ezekiel, Johnupon the Isle of Patmos, St. Paul in the three heavens, and allthe Saints who held communion with the general assembly and

The great religious leaders oftheworld such as Mohammed, Confucius, and the Reformers, as well asphilosophers including Socrates,Plato, and others, received a portionof Gods light. Moral truths were givento them by God to enlighten wholenations and to bring a higher level of understanding toindividuals.

.Consistentwith these truths, we believe that God has givenand will give to all people sufficient knowledge to help them ontheir way to eternal salvation, either in this life or in the life to

So I must come to what I wish to speak oftheresurrection of the deadthe soulthe immortalspiritthe mind of man. Where did it come from? All doctors of divinity say that God created it in thebeginning, but it is not so.

    .

We say that God Himself is a self-existent God. Who told youso? Its correct enough, but how did it get into your heads?Who told you that man did not exist in like manner upon thesame principle? Man existed in spirit; the mind of mantheintelligent partis as immortal as, and is coequal with, GodHimself.

.Is it logical to say that a spirit is immortal and yethave a beginning? Because if a spirit of man had abeginning, it will have an end, but it does not have

    a beginning or end..

Intelligence is eternal and exists upon a self existent principle. It is a spirit from age to age and there is no creation about it.

We again assembled in conference; when, after muchspeaking, singing, praying, and praising God, all intongues, we proceeded to the washing of feet (accordingto the practice recorded in the 13th chapter of JohnsGospel), as commanded of the Lord. Each Elder washedhis own feet first, after which I girded myself with a toweland washed the feet of all of them, wiping them with thetowel with which I was girded. Among the number, my fatherpresented himself, but before I washed his feet, I asked of him afathers blessing, which he granted by laying his hands upon myhead, in the name of Jesus Christ, and declaring that I should

continue in the Priests office until Christ comes. At the close of thescene, Brother Frederick G. Williams, being moved upon by the HolyGhost, washed my feet in token of his fixed determination to be withme in suffering, or in journeying, in life or in death, and to becontinually on my right hand; in which I accepted him in the name of
