MILLENNIUM GREEN WORK PART Y A group of 8 volunteers - including Sam Rayner (far leſt) who is keen to help out in the village as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award scheme - braved the cold on Saturday 6 th January to maintain The Millennium Green. Work included- dying up the willow arch, clearing the scrub from under the mature trees and maintaining Gibson's Bridge by removing the build-up of moss. Thank you to all those involved. This me of year is great for making marmalade with it being Seville orange season. If growing veg is your thing, then now is the me you should be thinking about ching your potatoes or browsing the seed catalogues. The Show has connued to flourish and grow from strength to strength. Based on market research from last year's event, this year we are introducing new and excing classes to test you. We are expanding the arts and craſts secon with new children's classes, there are new flower classes, the inclusion of a homemade sauce and more opportunies to enter the very popular photography compeon. We will also be mixing up the baking classes, adding in new recipes, and of course, there will be a newly themed show stopper cake! This is not a class, so complete beginners might find it boring (but are sll welcome to come for a drink!) Usually people chat in pairs/ groups, discussing anything of mutual interest - the key thing is to try to communicate only in French! Please can dog walkers, and anyone who allows their dogs to wander the village, be extra vigilant on the dark mornings and evenings in making sure that any mess is cleaned up. If you have an opinion on this, please either talk with Jean Smeeton or Julian Humpherson, or email: [email protected]. Of course, the problems that the PCC face in trying to maintain and repair the church do not go away, and we need the support of the village to keep the church running. We havent asked anything for removing these charges, but any donations would be gratefully received! Future Our income has dropped significantly this year, to the point where we have to draw on reserves to make up the shortfall. Currently, we are bidding for Heritage Lottery Funding to repair the church, make it a sustainable building of more use to the community, and a heritage attraction for visitors. At this stage we are talking with the Parish Council and local businesses to see how we can work together and we will keep everyone informed of our progress.

Parish Council News

Unfortunately the Parish Council has received numerous complaints about the amount of dog poo on the pavements of Orston.

Worryingly, most of this is along Church Street and Launder Street which are the two main routes for children walking to school.
