“My involvement in the program has been truly rewarding. Meeting a diverse group of students each year, hearing about their background and experiences, bringing out the strategic and creative thinker in them, and ending the program with a sense of personal accomplishment and enrichment, has certainly been the standout memories of the whole experience for me. You can’t help but feel humbled that you are able to assist in making a positive and lasting difference in a student’s life.”

This professional and career-focussed mentoring program gives you the opportunity to guide, support and assist students through the transition from study to work. Delivered by the Monash Business School, the program runs from May to October and connects students to a variety of professionals at different stages in their careers in a range of pathways.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO MENTOR

The program is open to students with a credit average or above who demonstrate an interest in developing professional skills and academic pursuits. The program matches selected students with Monash alumni, or industry mentors.

Mentors have the opportunity to guide students in developing competencies that contribute to their employability and provide them with a sense of direction as they prepare for life after university.

Once matched with your mentee, you’ll attend an introductory meeting (or webinar) to launch your mentoring relationship. Mentors and mentees connect over a six month period on at least four occasions and have regular communication in-between.

Most mentors find the experience so personally rewarding that they continue to participate in the program for subsequent years.

THE GENERATOR ACCELERATOR PROGRAM

“The GENERATOR is an incredible way to expose students early on in their lives to the infinitely possible ways their professional lives could pan out – jobs aren’t delineated as clearly as they once were and the possibilities are endless. And for me, going back to a student environment is linking me back into fresh, young minds and reminding me of new and innovative ways to think and create.”

Pursuing the entrepreneurial career path is a beckoning career for graduates, but the journey is marked with unique challenges. Many Monash alumni have launched successful ventures and can look back on the support they received along the way to overcome these hurdles.

The GENERATOR was established in 2016 as a central access point to inspire and support entrepreneurial talent at Monash.

This Monash incubation and co-working space located at the Clayton campus is geared towards supporting fledgling startups, and aims to build a strong entrepreneurial community at Monash.

ACCELERATE YOUR STARTUP

Apply for a three-month intensive program to accelerate your startup. The program provides successful applicants up to $20,000 funding per year, a dedicated co-working space and tailored mentoring.

GLOBAL CHALLENGES

“I would definitely encourage alumni to become a mentor. It’s more than fun. It’s interesting and stimulating to meet and work with young people. I give them guidance yet I’m learning to adapt to their situation and knowledge.”

This undergraduate course is for high-achieving science students who have the drive and passion to use science to influence business, government, the not-for-profit sector, and the wider community.

The first of its kind in Australia, this degree pushes the boundaries of science to solve the world’s biggest challenges using more than just brilliant scientific minds; we need leaders, deep thinkers, adventurers, inspirers, innovators, entrepreneurs and game changers.

In addition to studying a scientific discipline at Monash, Global Challenges students receive high-level training in leadership, persuasive communication, entrepreneurship, policy, ethics, and corporate social responsibility. Students also have access to inspiring high profile guest speakers, two internship programs and at least one international placement.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO INFLUENCE

With your support, Monash global graduates will be equipped to look at the world in a way that only an entrepreneurial scientist can – to look for solutions to some of the biggest challenges of our time.

Alumni involved in this multidisciplinary program can be from any background, not strictly science-based, and the level of involvement is up to you. Consider the opportunities below.

It’s amazing to look retrospectively at where they started in their professional development and realise how quickly they develop and learn. A bit of time out of your day will mean a world of difference to a student.”
