Ascribed Leadership Gained by status Examples include Professional Athletes, Movie Stars &

Musicians High status in our society makes most look up to as role models How many live up to the status we give them? Are they leaders? In school, how many Ascribed Leaders do we have?

Leading & Following

Good leading requires good following Good leading is hard because you have to give of your self To be a good follower you have to believe Are you a good follower when you are not a leader?

Rate yourself out of 10 for both and explain why you did.

Types of Teammates (People) Builders vs Destroyers

Building is 6 times harder to do It takes hard work and perseverance You have to take ownership (buy in) You can not be afraid to fail

The greatest people in the world have failed over and over but learn from each failure

When you fail you become an easy target to others

Destroying is Easy to do Is it the nature of our society? People are easily detached Are people more worried about what

someone else thinks than what they want to get done?

What are you? Prioritizer:

Understands what is most important Gets the most important things done

Procrastinator: Puts off getting things done

Usually gets things done eventually but the work done is not always done the best (The work is typically rushed)

Slacker: Lazy, does the bare minimum

Takes the path of least resistance which leads to mediocrity

Yes Man: All talk and no action. Talk is cheap!

Stands up for self (Confident) Considers more than just self (Generous) Has great success but not at someone else expense

Passive (Lose-Win) Always gives in to others

Passive Aggressive (Lose-Lose) Always gives in to others but lashes out

Leadership Visual TASK

Create a visual (collage/digital poster/keynote etc.) that includes the following 5 components: 10 marks

1) Your definition of leadership.

2) The characteristics and qualities of effective leaders according to your current knowledge, values and beliefs.

3) Create a visual that reflects/portrays your personal leadership characteristics and qualities (consider your experience with a leadership team)

4) Find a leadership quote that you connect with and include it in your visual product.

5) Include a personal leadership philosophy such as a mission statement
