The CPSI certification trains individuals to identify hazards on public playgrounds and playground equipment, how to rank those hazards according to injury potential and how to apply that knowledge and establish a playground safety program. The course covers the material necessary to pass the Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification exam. Individuals taking the CPSI will gain practical, hands-on training on how to apply the ASTM standards and the CPSC guidelines to playground environments. Upon completion of the CPSI, an individual should be capable of establishing a sound risk reduction program, establish a system of repair, retrofit and removal of hazardous equipment and establish a routine inspection system. This certification is offered by state and local associations throughout the US. To locate a course near you visit the CPSI classroom course schedule. Applies to: individuals wishing to become a Certified Playground Safety Inspector, playground owner/operators, health inspectors, daycare staff, school and park maintenance personnel, risk reduction managers, manufacturers, playground installers, insurance agents, etc. CPSI requirements: ASTM F1487-11 Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specifications for Playground Equipment for Public Use; CPSC Handbook for Public Playground Safety; ASTM F2223-10 Standard Guide for ASTM Standards on Playground Surfacing; ASTM F2373-11 Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Public Use Play Equipment for Children 6 Months through 23 Months; Playground Safety Is No Accident Playground Inspection Forms Download; Supplemental material and in class workbook material.

“I would like to know the number of parking spaces you think this playground would require and how many of those spaces would be handicap van accessible.”

I would refer to the city engineer and his knowledge of the ADA compliance. This plan shows the requirement of 4 existing spots. For convenience we are proposing 4 additional spots with side and rear accessibility. Not all people with disabilities have mobility issues.

“I would like to see the data that was gathered for all the sites that were examined and how it was weighted to determine how Greeley Park ended up being selected as the best choice location. I would assume that there was a list of criteria, a ranking in a category for each site for each criteria, and an overall scoring algorithm which generated the best choice. I would also like to know what the approximate dates were the data was gathered. Note, and this is very important, I do not want to see a powerpoint presentation like the one given to the BPW about this. I would ideally like to see an excel spreadsheet, or equivalent, with actual data. I don't want someone to tell me what was determined. I want them to show me the data, not the conclusions.”

A hand out is provided and for others we have also included a slide version. We have never stopped gathering data from the start of this project. Every time something is discussed, we run out and gather more information on the sites.

Also called: Pugh matrix, decision grid, selection matrix or grid, problem matrix, problem selection matrix, opportunity analysis, solution matrix, criteria rating form, criteria-based matrix. A decision matrix evaluates and prioritizes a list of options. The team first establishes a list of weighted criteria and then evaluates each option against those criteria. This is a variation of the L-shaped matrix. When to Use a Decision Matrix When a list of options must be narrowed to one choice. When the decision must be made on the basis of several criteria. After the list of options has been reduced to a manageable number by list reduction. American society for quality (Asq.org) Typical situations are: When one improvement opportunity or problem must be selected. When only one solution or problem-solving approach can be implemented. When only one new product can be developed.

“If the website I identified as the manufacturer (Legacy Corp) is incorrect, who IS the manufacturer of the equipment, if one has been chosen?”

MRC corporation is the design and distribution company we are currently working with to use Game Time Equipment. A:

Q:

“How many proposals were gotten from competing manufacturers?”

At least 3 proposals will be obtained. We needed to create 1 design to work with and use for an RFQ. As with any product purchase you need to figure out what you want, then you will be comparing apples to apples.

In 1997 the Board of Aldermen enacted a 5-year moratorium on construction in Greeley Park. This moratorium was later renewed for another 5 years. Then in 2006 the ordinance was amended to require a special process for any construction in the park. No construction can be undertaken in Greeley Park unless it is approved by a majority vote by the Board of Aldermen after a public hearing. The Board of Aldermen has the authority to deny or to require changes to any construction plan.

This moratorium is not and never was intended to stop the rebuilding of a playground within the park, specifically in the same location.
