Together we did it.On behalf of the 2015 Campaign Cabinet, I am delighted to announce that collectively our community raised a record $9,113,630 to improve lives locally. I am incredibly humbled and proud of this achievement as it speaks volumes about the people of London and Middlesex County. It tells me that our volunteers and donors care deeply for our community and know that our goal is more than a number, it is people’s lives. Last year

more than 85,000 people, or 1 in 5, accessed a United Way-funded program in our region. Whether it’s giving children and newcomers a good start or ensuring people living in poverty or with mental health issues can access help when they need it most, funds raised will be invested in programs proven to get results and change lives.

Clint Wilson

A million reasons“It all started with a little tour of a youth centre,” quipped Clint Wilson when asked what sparked his interest in United Way. That tiny spark has ignited a passion for community building that has fueled two decades of extraordinary giving and volunteering. Clint’s generosity has reached a philanthropic milestone, having invested more than a million dollars in his lifetime of giving with United Way.

“I can honestly say that as a donor, I benefit too,” he explained. “When I give and volunteer, I have the opportunity to immerse myself in the issues and as a result, I feel more connected to my community and the people in it.”

Generations of givingFor Dr. Bertha Garcia, giving back to the community in which you work and live is steeped in family tradition. Growing up in Peru, her parents instilled in her a profound commitment to social justice and philanthropy. Their philosophy of being helpful, non-judgemental, and ensuring others are taken care of, is one she models for her children.

“My giving is just a drop in the bucket,” she explained noting the complex issues in our community. “My hope though is that if everyone gave what they could, all of those drops would add up to a full bucket.”
