Overview

HEXCAPE is an Italian Electronic Engineering company. The HEXCAPE team has been in the field of electronic and computer design for more than20 years each, and each of them has supported the pre and post-graduate "practice" alsoa solid theoretical basis thanks to their studies carried out in the best Italian EngineeringUniversities.

Today we are able to provide technical services such as:

• analysis and co-drafting (together with the client) technical specifications• feasibility studies• Hardware, Software and Firmware design• prototyping• engineering• manufacturing of pre-production• assistance to the Manufacturing phase• personal training• purchasing assistance• assistance to CE marking of products• drafting of EU funding programs applications (actually HORIZON 2020)• assistance in patents registering

Sphere of influenceHEXCAPE mainly acts on the whole European territory with the two operative offices:Rome and the legal one near Viterbo.

Services in detailHEXCAPE is able to design and develop products both "from scratch" and as evolutions ofexisting products. We develop boards and systems with Analog, Digital and Mixed-signalcircuits using state-of-the-art design tools, some of which are "Open Source" (doing so,also the client can use it).We develop Firmware for Microprocessors, Microcontrollers, Dsp, Cpld and FPGA, as wellas Software for any Embedded system. We perform “in-house” also multilayer printed circuits boards (PCB) design, actually up to16 layers today, and we also produce prototypes and small batches of our projects. If thecustomer wants to commission it, we are able to provide assistance to the final manufac-turing phase of the product designed for him, starting from the purchasing manage-ment, up to the final packaging. We can provide the drafting of any kind of technical documentation in civil, industrial andmilitary markets. We are able to offer advice in the training of technical personnel, assistance with testsfor CE marking and for the registration of patents.Since 2005 we have been called (directly or indirectly) to be part of a consortium parti-cipating in the implementation of projects funded by the European Community.

ConfidentialityWe treat all information and data as highly confidential unless otherwise specified. We won’t share any information about a client or project with anyone else without your explicit consent. We usually sign with the client a no-disclosure agreement (NDA) that protects the customer all along. All personal data are protected by EU regulation no. 2016/679, aka GDPR.

Type of projects we know how to implementWe normally run projects worth around € 500 to about € 200,000. Projects significantly larger than these values is probably too much for us. In this case, we advise the cus-tomer to contact us and we will be happy to discuss it with him if we are the right supplier for a big project.

IndemnityIn about twenty years of work, we have never disappointed a customer and we are todayproud of the quality of our work. However, for further peace of mind, we have an insur-ance coverage as a professional indemnity that can provide a possible compensation of up to € 250,000, if we were to behave with negligence.

QualityThe concept of quality for HEXCAPE is extremely important. The HEXCAPE studio is com-mitted to providing customers with high technical and professional services, strictly re-specting the contractual commitments as well as those of confidentiality to protect theinformation received. Furthermore, the study is certifying ISO 9001.

Terms of service

We aim to be rigorous and serious from the first minute we work for the customer. Thisis why we like to clarify from the beginning the terms we generally work with.

• Cost

Usually, we use one of the following two working methods, that the customer can freelychoose:

"PER-HOUR" method: we apply a fixed hourly rate, negotiable for larger projects andfor customers who will commission more than a single project. We agree on a flat ratewith each customer, rather than different rates for different kind of jobs, keeping timetracking and billing very simple, keeping the customer informed in real time.

"PER-PROJECT" method: after receiving the technical specifications pack from the cus-tomer (or supported him to draft it), after careful analysis, we formulate our job offer in-dicating schedules, costs and delivery methods of the jobs (deliverables).

• Equipment

We consider the tools and equipment we use as a part of the service we offer, and there-fore their costs are included in our hourly rate. If customers ask us to use a specific toolor device for their project, we charge the cost to the customer else we ask them to rent/buy it. As usual, we will be honest and rigorous in advising the customer for the bestsolution, immediately avoiding hidden costs as in our style.

• Travels

We do not charge any cost for the journey to and/or from the customer's main office(after all, we decided where to live and work). However, we charge a nominal fee tocover the expenses for ancillary travels related to the project: for example, trip to a test-ing lab or to visit a customers supplier. It is worth noting that travel costs are generally avery small part of the overall budget, as we find it very useful to make intensive use of

the most modern communication tools (e.g. Skype, Whatsapp, Telegram, Hangouts,...),which reduce the travel needs.

• Use licenses

We prefer to provide the customer with all the files he needs to produce where he wants, how many copies he wants and when he wants the product that asked us to design forhim (aka EXECUTABLE FILES) while maintaining the intellectual property (IP) of the pro-ject. In this case, they say we provide the customer with the license for the not exclusivecommercial exploitation of the IP.

There are three main reasons for this kind of approach:

- In this way, we can keep costs significantly lower than the competitors one whileproviding everything that the customer needs for his goal (producing a device or sys-tem). If the client then needs to have the source files of the IP that we have created forhim, or want to buy exclusiveness, we can negotiate with him at any time a licenseagreement of the source files pack.

- We can freely use our schematic symbols, Footprints and software libraries that wehave designed after many years’ work without having to provide them to the customer(which in most cases also are useless), thus avoiding that the customer must also pay forthem. By acting with this approach, those “engineering chips” would still be used in anintegrated way in the project but remains free of charge for the customer.

- By maintaining intellectual property, we are able to manage the IP review system"in-house", avoiding the customer to acquire a similar and expensive system, protectingthe customer against his clientele.

Methods of execution

What follows is a simple flowchart regarding the “steps to go” that we normally performfor our customers, including inputs (actions or documents that the customer provides)and outputs of the job (actions or documents that we provide).

Accomplishments

Among the many achievements (over 100) that today our company can proudly boast, we cite the following (some realizations cannot be cited in compliance with signed agree-ments of a no-disclosure agreement (NDA) that see us involved in relation to projects in the military field).

•• Digital air-oxygen control mixer for biomedical applications (Neonatal)(system design, pneumatics, hardware and firmware).

•• Control panel for a neonatal incubator (system design, hardware, PCB and firmware).

•• Extremely high accuracy scale for combustible weighing for equipment and space satellite (hardware and firmware design).

•• P.D.U. (Power Distribution Unit) for a controlled and assisted distribution of powering military equipment in a naval environment.

•• VME bus board for the controlled distribution of synchronous triples (system design, hardware mechanics, PCB and firmware).

•• PSU (Power Supply Unit) board on VME bus for a controlled distribution of power sup-ply and environmental control of military racks (system design, hardware mechanics, PCB and firmware).

•• VME bus board for managing 128 individually configurable digital I / O lines aka DIO (system design, hardware mechanics, PCB and firmware).

•• Automatic environmental control system for pressurization room with assisted CO2 in-let with remote control panel (system design, hardware, PCB and firmware) with GSM / GPRS modem.

•• Portable ECG (electrocardiographic) signal detection system for transmission on a mo-bile telephone line (system design, hardware, PCB and firmware).

•• Automatic pressurization system for waveguides in military AVIONIC communication devices.

•• ARM processor with LINUX OS platform for casino video games systems (system design, hardware, PCB).

PartnersWe are honoured to announce that since 2017 we have been reviewed by Microchip Inc., which has given us the status of MICROCHIP Authorized Design partner for Italy. This result is the culmination of our professional activity and the quality of the design andengineering services we have been proposing for many years, and the fact that a presti-gious company like Microchip has recognized is a source of pride for us.
