Overview

Introduction Leapfrog Works brings the existing power of Leapfrog’s implicit 3D modelling and visualisation capabilities together with new product features, to enable easy-to-use workflows for ground engineers and environmental scientists in the Civil and Environmental sectors.

Hydrogeology Solution Kit Leapfrog Works is available with an optional Hydrogeology Solution Kit for interoperability with FEFLOW and ModFLOW flow modelling software. Hydrogeology can be turned on at run time if your organisation’s license administrator has authorised you to use this product.

My Leapfrog ID My Leapfrog (https://my.leapfrog3d.com) is your go-to location for online resources to support you in your use of Leapfrog Works. The My Leapfrog ID you create is also used by Leapfrog Works to access software licences that you are entitled to run. This provides flexible and scalable software deployment for everyone from local consultants to multinational corporations.

Central Leapfrog Works is compatible with Central v1.4 for continuous model management, review and collaboration.

View Leapfrog Works interoperates with View for upload of focused views for freely sharing scenes and engaging in stakeholder collaboration anywhere in the world without the need for colleagues, clients or partners to install software.

Leapfrog Viewer Leapfrog Works is compatible with Leapfrog Viewer v4.10 for freely sharing complex scenes and providing model deliverables to clients.

3D Implicit Modelling Leapfrog Works is founded upon the proven Leapfrog Geo 4.2 implicit modelling engine. It supports modelling contact surfaces and volumes using stratigraphic sequences, structural surfaces, depositions, intrusions, erosions, veins, vein systems and faults. It also supports numeric modelling.

Supported Inputs Leapfrog Works supports the input of borehole data, geotechnical data, engineering designs, well screens, meshes, surfaces, points, polylines, GIS data, 2D grids, structural data, maps, images and historical cross sections. The Leapfrog Works Hydrogeology Solution Kit also supports input of flow models.

Supported Outputs Leapfrog Works supports the output of 3D surfaces and volumes, planned boreholes, borehole tables, cross sections, points, polylines, GIS lines, 3D scene files for viewing in Leapfrog Viewer, structural data,

New features in v2.0

View Upload View is a web based application for sharing your Leapfrog Works models so they may be explored and shared using only a web browser. Leapfrog Works enables you to upload the 3D scene with a simple button click, so you can easily share your insights and collaborate around the 3D view with colleagues, partners and clients, or engage in public consultation. View runs on a browser with no need to install software or pass large files around, all you need to do is share a link. View upload is available to anyone running Leapfrog Works, but does require set up with your My Leapfrog ID. For more information on getting set up with View contact [email protected].

Publish Designs to Central Engineering design meshes and lines can be published as objects in Central. This allows other Central collaborators and reviewers to visualise the designs in the context of the ground model and compare historic design versions directly in Central without having to download the project. This provides greater transparency and efficiency in collaboration around the interactions of engineering designs with the ground model.

Import Meshes from Central When working on a Central project in Leapfrog Works, you can now import meshes from other Central projects on the same server. This means that it is possible to share up-to-date resources from one project to another improving how multiple users can contribute to a single project. In addition, fast reload functionality allows an up-to-date version of the mesh from the same branch to be easily imported.

Page 6

gINT Database Connections Using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) you can now set up connections to Bentley gINT projects from within Leapfrog Works to create or append the Borehole database to directly build 3D models from geotechnical and environmental ground investigation data stored in gINT projects.

Select Coordinate System from Design If a design file contains information on more than one coordinate system, you can now select the system you wish to use when you import the file. Previously only the World Coordinate System was recognised during import.

Page 7

Data Analysis Numeric data can now be visualised and plotted using univariate and bivariate graphs to quantify numeric distributions and support analysis and modelling of geotechnical domains from interval and numeric data sets such as penetration tests, geophysical or rock quality designation data. Data can be viewed in Scatter Plot, Quantile-Quantile (Q-Q) Plots, Box plots or Histograms of interval length statistics. Additionally, the graph is linked to the 3D scene so that selections from the one can be viewed dynamically in the other, to further enhance understanding, aid domain classification or validate a compositing approach. All graphs and output tables can be exported for inclusion in reports or presentations.

Test web-services Leapfrog Works interacts with web services and other products over the internet. Depending on the network environment you are operating in, access to these services and products may be affected. A new test web-services option on the main menu checks access to all the web-services and provides a report to Seequent and makes it available for review by your network administrator.

Previous Functionality from v1.1

AGS Data Import Leapfrog Works supports the import of files in the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) format for the digital exchange of ground investigation data. AGS files can contain the data for a wide range of ground investigation data within a single file. You can use the AGS file to build your borehole database and add tables for downhole points, intervals and structural data. AGS versions 3.1 and 4.0 are supported.

GIS Lines as Alignments GIS lines and draped GIS lines can now be used as alignments for creating alignment serial sections.

2D Chainage Values for Alignments When creating alignment serial cross sections, it is now possible to set a start chainage value based on a real world chainage. Alignment serial sections will now calculate the chainage spacing using the 2D length of the line selected as the alignment.

Clip Evaluations to Section Extents When evaluating models or surfaces onto a cross section, serial section or alignment serial section, the evaluation can now be clipped to the section extents. This limits the evaluation to just the relevant area for subsequent geotechnical analysis or integration with other views created in CAD packages.

Master Layouts for Alignment Serial Sections With master layouts users can control alignment serial section layouts using a single master layout. This allows batch editing and viewing of alignment serial section layouts, resolving issues with management of multiple section layouts within an alignment serial section.

Reference Codes Reference codes can now be entered when running Leapfrog Works to track usage of the software relative to a job, project, department, regional office, client or other code. This code is stored along with license usage in the licensing system for inclusion in licence usage reports.

Assign Selected Intervals to the Base Lithology When selecting intervals, it is now possible to assign intervals to existing category codes. Previously it was only possible to assign intervals to user-defined codes.

Filtered Boreholes and Points for Distance Functions When distance functions are created from boreholes, points, GIS points and imported GIS lines, it is now possible to filter the object used with any query filter defined for that object.

Evaluate Boreholes onto Curved Sections Boreholes can now be evaluated onto alignment serial cross sections and fence (longitudinal) sections including curved portions of the fence section.

Identify Mesh Parts in the Scene When exporting a mesh that has multiple parts, distinguishing between the different parts that can be exported has previously been a case of trial and error. When exporting a single mesh, it is now possible to identify in the scene what parts of a mesh correspond to the select part in the Export Mesh Parts window.

Local Central Project Management When viewing a Central project all local copies are now displayed in a Local copies group as a tile. The local copy tile shows a thumbnail with status, a link to the history tree and options to delete or publish to make browsing projects more intuitive. When browsing projects on the Central projects tab, projects are now grouped by location tags that can be set in the admin portal of each central server.

Previous Functionality from v1.0

Design Import Leapfrog Works supports the import and use of engineering design models in the Leapfrog modelling environment to derive volumes for excavation as well as analysis of other interactions between the modelled geology and the engineering design model. Drawing (.dwg) and data exchange format (.dxf) versions R13-R27 are supported.

Alignment Serial Sections This new cross section type allows you to generate a sequential set of cross sections at regular chainage (station) intervals along an alignment. Sections are vertical but perpendicular to the alignment, which can itself be curved.

Improved Copy of Section Layouts The workflow for copying layouts between cross sections has been enhanced to facilitate batch copying of a layout onto multiple cross-sections at once.

Batch Export Serial Section Layouts Export multiple layouts from a serial section. Layouts can either be exported as a single PDF file, or individual PDF, SVG, PNG and GeoTIFF files, which can then be combined into a single zip.

Upgrade Notes

Project Upgrades Leapfrog Works v2.0 supports direct project upgrades from earlier Leapfrog Works versions. Leapfrog Works can directly upgrade Leapfrog Hydro projects from version 2.2 or later. Leapfrog Works can convert and upgrade Leapfrog Geo projects from version 2.0 or later or Leapfrog Geothermal v2.6 or later. This will convert the projects to Leapfrog Works v2.0 projects. It is recommended to make a backup when prompted during the process as Leapfrog Works Projects cannot be converted back into Leapfrog Geo or Geothermal projects. When upgrading projects from Version 1.1: In certain situations, the following objects may reprocess on upgrade: Imported tables, geological model boundaries, polylines, and distance functions. This could cause dependent models to reprocess. Veins and Alignment serial sections will reprocess on upgrade which will likely cause dependent models to also reprocess. When upgrading projects from Leapfrog Works v1.0 In rare situations some borehole tables or geological models may reprocess on upgrade causing dependent objects such as surfaces and models to reprocess. When upgrading projects from Leapfrog Hydro 2.7, Leapfrog Geo 4.1 or Leapfrog Geothermal 3.3 In certain situations, the following objects may reprocess on upgrade: Imported tables, geological model boundaries, polylines, and distance functions. This could cause dependent models to reprocess. Veins will reprocess on upgrade which will likely cause dependent models to also reprocess. When upgrading projects from Leapfrog Hydro 2.6, Leapfrog Geo 4.0 or Leapfrog Geothermal 3.2 or earlier All borehole tables will reprocess on upgrade causing dependent objects such as surfaces and models to reprocess. Meshes, surfaces, and interpolants with polylines as inputs will upgrade and reprocess, which will cause dependent objects to reprocess.
