“I was interested in studying with Sano due to the rise of social media and the fitness industry. I have found sourcing
reliable nutritional advice very difficult and often very confusing. I
wanted to learn from an expert so that it would enable me to make better and more sustainable choices for myself. I
was not looking for a quick fix solution as often seen these days, but a
manageable change in lifestyle.”

with the best and that you will graduate
with a newfound appreciation for nutrition
and your very own body, and the ability
to help positively transform the collective
approach to food and wellbeing.
- Director of Nutrit ion & The Sano School Team
Things are changing for the better within
the health and wellness industries, people
are demanding evidence to back up
health claims and becoming more
empowered to take back control of their
own health, yet misinformation and
dangerous advice is still rife. A
certification with Sano School of Culinary
Medicine provides you with the wisdom to
interpret nutrition advice and become an
evidence detective for yourself and your
friends and family, and also tells other
people, including potential clients,
patients, employers, and your social
media audiences, that you follow
evidence-based, responsible nutrition
practice.
WE ARE SANO Sano: Officially from the latin "mens sana in
corpore sano" (a sound mind in a sound body)
And we have lofty goals to spread the
message - that food really is medicine -
even further, to make basic nutrition
knowledge commonplace internationally to
empower everyone to take back control of
their own health so that we can collectively
rediscover the true benefits of a healthy
body and mind.
We share our knowledge to empower people
to transform their lives for the better.
Nutrition, diet, and healthy eating had
become minefields of misinformation and
Doug and Heather began a mission to
redefine the worldwide approach to
health. Working closely with industry
experts and the latest evidence-based
nutritional science, they developed our
first course, Sano Diploma in Applied
Nutrition, as a forerunner in accessible
education.
Since then, we have empowered
hundreds of students from countries
including the UK, Holland, Spain, China,
the USA, Australia, and South Africa to
take control of their health, transform
their relationship with food and their
bodies, and guide and inspire others to
do the same. With the rapid expansion of
the wellness industry and the subsequent
collective desire to lead a healthier
lifestyle, our graduates began to create
brand new careers based on the nutrition
expertise they gained throughout the
course. This lead to our desire to provide
students with the tools to not only inspire
healthy eating, but to develop their
careers and make a living doing
something they love at the same time.
Our aim with Sano is to provide people with
the skills to use food and nutrition for
medicinal health benefits for their own
health and to help others to do the same.
Sano began as The School of Culinary
Medicine in 2016 when Nutritionist, Heather
Richards and her husband, entrepreneur
Doug Richards, identified a demand for
education to enable those interested in
nutrition to study at a more detailed level
for their own interest without committing to
either a full time degree or just a quick
beginners certificate.
A Nutrition Coach guides in healthy eating, supporting people to use food to manage and improve their health. They advise on the ingredients and types of foods to eat for health and can create recipes and meal plans to support specific health areas. Nutrition Coaches are motivators, inspiring people to live healthier lives by making healthy, tasty food choices for themselves.

There are multiple ways that a
Nutrition Coach may work. Once
you have graduated you will be
able to:
The opportunities are endless!
See clients on a one to one basis
Deliver cooking demonstrations,
webinars, seminars
Write and host group
programmes
Write ebooks
Create menus for restaurants,
retailers and corporates
Work within corporate wellness
Work as a wellness writer or
blogger
How can I work when
I'm qualified?
A Nutrition Coach is not a Nutritionist or a Nutritional Therapist. These professionals have undergone 3 years of training and hundreds of clinical hours practice. They take a full case history and assess symptoms to determine how in their clinical experience the patient is best supported through nutrition. They may then, having determined how they wish their patient to be supported i.e. support cardiovascular health, refer to Nutrition Coaches for recipes and meal plans to be prepared.
“I’m doing an MSC in nutrition and behaviour
with Bournemouth University and I’m using the
Diploma in Applied Nutrition course as the
supporting evidence for doing that. The thing I
really liked about the Sano course is the fact
that it was applied, it wasn’t just about the
science of nutrition. The practical of coming
up with 3 recipes, per module, that are going
to utilise foods that will assist and support
the body systems and I find that really
interesting.”

WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY
“Since 2014 I’ve had my own business as a holistic
nutrition coach, exclusively doing nutrition coaching and
healthy cooking, one on one lessons, group workshops mostly
in Los Angeles and some in New York as well. It’s been
steadily growing since then. There is definitely a need for
it, that's why with the course it was nice because I was
familiar with all the concepts but I hadn’t really learnt
the science behind the nutrition knowledge that I had.
That was the number one thing that I liked about the
course, the anatomy side of it and the science bit I
thought was great. It gives you more credibility as a coach
to be able to back yourself up with science.”

“There is lots of support and clear guidelines. The
feedback is excellent with positive comments to prepare you
for the next module. The Sano School of Culinary Medicine
is a good fit with my beliefs around using food as
medicine.”
Louise Knight
Student
“I do different therapies, so I wanted to add the
course to that. Primarily I wanted to do the course
because I do colonics and I wanted to know much more
about digestion and nutrition. I also do reflexology
and aromatherapy and skin care so I do have to deal
with a lot of lifestyle issues.”
