Dear Friends,

These past months have been life changing to say the least – not only for ALUCAST, but for all of us across the country and the globe.

During the past year ALUCAST has conducted activities with full support from our centers at Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Pune. Despite all odds, ALUCAST soldiered on and went ahead with its biennial NADCA Training Sessions.

These included dedicated training at Jaya Hind Industries in Pune and Rockman Industries at various locations in the North of India. The courses were highly appreciated by all who attended.

Special thanks in this regard to Mr. N Prabhakaran, Chairman Die Tech India and Chairman of ALUCAST’s Chennai Center, who with his team pulled out all stops to bring 34 persons for training at a time when the die casting industry was really in the doldrums.

ALUCAST pursued its activities with diligence. This has left a stamp of quality on everything that we did. One regret, I have is that the Coimbatore Center could not be revived, but I understand that the chapter is not closed and that efforts are being made to reactivate this city as well.

During January this year - COVID19 emerged on the scene – starting out in China and then taking the world by storm in the months that followed. By the middle of March, most of the world went into a lockdown and India was no exception.

ALUCAST closed its Office in Pune and did not reopen till

11th AGM – ALUCASTMeeting on Zoom - 1100 hrs – Friday, 30th October 2020

the first week of July. On resumption, services and meetings went virtual and continue to do so. This will of course be the new normal for some time to come.

We were hoping to follow-up on the success of ALUCAST 2018 held in Noida in December 2018, with a bigger and better show in Chennai in December 2020. Unfortunately the pandemic has forced us to postpone the event to 2021. The initial response for this program was extremely encouraging, but there is nothing we can really do at this stage, only hope for a better scenario next year.

Our partnership with Nuremburg Messe has continued to pay rich dividends and despite this waning economic scenario, we hope to take forward the relationship when the situation normalizes.

Administratively, we have a stronger ALUCAST than previous years, with an able secretariat, better management controls and multiple internal audits to make sure that we are on track at all times.

A Core Committee of two Trustees looks into matters on a regular basis. The same two Trustees also manage a Training Committee to ensure that our training calendar functions normally with appropriate webinars.

Since ALUCAST 2020 will not happen as planned – a major ALUCAST 2020 webinar is being planned so that the essence of the seminar that goes with the big event is not lost. Details will be made available shortly.

Outbound Missions will have to be put on hold and as such there will be no trade fair visits abroad till the situation permits otherwise.

Presidential Address

ALUCAST® Annual Report 2019 - 2020 ALUCAST® Annual Report 2019 - 2020 Page 9

Our partnership with the College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP), to work on a degree course in aluminum die casting is also going slow because of the current situation. The machine purchased from Buhler is presently lying in a packed condition at Pune and we are waiting for the training shed to be completed at the CoEP before it can be installed.

While many things are beyond our control, I would like to exhort all members to continue to support our events by their active participation. Your feedback after participation will help us to improve our effectiveness in the future. Do take part in the webinars and make your contributions which shall help us in the future. Virtual meetings come as a boon in many cases, because through them, larger numbers can keep in touch. Sharing of best practices at this juncture is vital.

All is not doom and gloom. In many cases, the Order Book position is good and healthy. The problem at this stage for many people is availability of labor – all the people who went back to their home towns have not yet returned to work. It will be some time before this situation improves and till then many of us will struggle to honor our schedules.

I thank you all for your efforts and I wish you more success in the year to come.

God Speed and Keep Safe!

Prasan FirodiaPresident

Training Session

NOVEMBER 2019

Training Program by Bengaluru Centre

ALUCAST Bengaluru–Centre Collaborated with M/s. Essase Chandran Institute & Conducted a Training Program on 22 Nov 2019 at Century Club. The Theme was PROTECTING PROFITABILITY IN A VOLATILE ENVIRONMENT.

Mrs. Jaya Bhaskar – Executive Director introduced the team from E.C.I. Mr. Ganesh Babu explained how to make profit even during the crisis with relevant charts & case studies.

It was very well received by over 35 Members & Topic was very relevant in view of the recessionary Trend; slowdown, especially in the Auto Sector.

Mr. Prakash Venkatesh – Chief Navigator - informed the various Programs being conducted at their Institute where the MSME’s have benefitted from undergoing rigorous Training program at each level.

DECEMBER 2019

ALUCAST 2019

ALUCAST 2019, National Conference of Aluminium Die Casting Technology was held at hotel Deccan Rendezvous by Hotel Surya, Pune on 13&14 December 2019. The two-day event organised by the Pune Zonal Centre, under the aegis of Aluminium Casters’ Association (ALUCAST), consisted of technical papers and presentations on a variety of topics by experts in the die casting field. The two-day event concluded on 14 Dec with a record number of over 100 participants.

Opening the proceedings was Mr. Suhas Palekar, Chairman Pune Zonal Centre and Chairman Organising Committee, ALUCAST 2019, who said that people had suggested that we come to a more centralized venue which was convenient to everyone and so brought this event to the heart of Pune City. Participation was higher and many more companies registered for this conference this year. He also said that in the last two decades, aluminium die casting has come a long way in India. The first PDC machine was installed in Jalandhar in 1954. It was Czech machine using water hydraulics installed at Grame& Co to make castings for loudspeakers. In 1965, HMT started producing PDC machine with a licence from Buhler, Switzerland. It was only post liberalization in 1991 that India could delink imports from export commitments and bring in the best technology and machine form abroad. We are now way ahead of these milestones.

Mr. N. Ganeshan, Trustee ALUCAST said, the organisers of ALUCAST 2019 identified and invited experts from industry to make a presentation on 14 different topics. Of the 14 only four will be directly connected with HPDC and the balance 10 will address issues concerning other aspects of aluminium casting industry, including LPDC, GDC and Sand Casting. He also said that, that he strongly feels that IC Engines will definitely survive till 2030 at least and maybe beyond. He did not expect Electric Cars to storm the market in the near future and as such industry had more than 10 years to prepare for a switch over.Even in 2030, about 70% all vehicles produced will be with either petrol or diesel engines. The balance 30% will be either battery operated Electric Cars or some with Hybrid engines using Hydrogen as fuel. As per a
