Assessment Criteria 3.1: Describe own strategies for managing stress

The online article regarding the signs and symptoms of stress highlights the need to:-

acknowledge that you can experience stress

recognize the symptoms of stress,

create a strategy to manage stress more effectively and,

develop specific stress relief techniques.

Use the table on page 30 to complete your own stress SWOT analysis.

SWOT is an acronym and stands for:

S=Strengths-what makes you a strong person, what helps you reduce stress levels?

W=Weaknesses-what behaviour, thinking etc increases the likelihood that you will experience stress?

O=Opportunities- what can you do to reduce your stress levels? Can you ask for more help from others, can

you drop a few tasks that you have on your list of things to do etc?

T=Threats-even when we put clear plans in place to reduce stress certain events in our life may threaten our

ability to maintain our stress reduction plan. You may say to yourself ‘I don’t believe that change is possible’ or

you are worried that a change in your routine may affect other things. Threats are t be acknowledge and

managed to enable you to maintain your stress management plan.

When you have completed this stress SWOT analysis answer the questions on page 31.
