GE Oil & Gas Training designers developed competency-based learning

pathways in all areas of oil and gas industry, covering Upstream, Midstream

and Downstream segments.The GE Oil & Gas skill-based

system uses assessments to evaluate the requirements of trainees.

The continuous improvement approach drives the overall learning process to

adapt the development structure and monitor the knowledge fill-the-gap.

A structured learning pathway is a key differentiator for each professional to

excel as single and team player and sustain the assets’ performance in terms

of production, availability and reliability.

PROFESSIONALS ACROSSOIL & GAS BUSINESS

The Process Engineer is responsible for the availability and reliability of rotating equipment installed in a plant, by checking the operating conditions of machines, evaluating performance and helping anticipate any potential failure. The Process Engineer needs to have a deep understanding of the internal processes and operation of rotating equipment.

The Control Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all control systems. The Control Maintenance Engineer should understand machine operation, but in addition to an operator he/she also has to understand the control device hardware and software. The Control Maintenance Engineer performs planned and unplanned maintenance procedures and in the event of a failure on thepanel or on the HMI he/she has to diagnose the issue and be able to implement the necessary troubleshooting action to solve it. He/She highlights issues and solutions to supervisors.

The Control Room Operator is dedicated to controlling the turbine/motor during its normal operation through the HMI. The Operator has to know how the control system manages start-up and shut-down phases and when the auxiliaries are switched on/off and needs to be skilled on the equipment’s main components and working principles. He/she is capable of detecting and understanding the main process alarms. In case of equipment failure, an operator has to implement emergency procedures and report the malfunction to Maintenance personnel.

The Instrument Technician carries out activities, operations, repairs, maintenance procedures on all instrumentations. He/she removes and refits, repairs, calibrates and maintains all equipment reporting any deficiencies or malfunctions. He/she is requested to have a deep knowledge about all the installed instrumentation and at least a basic knowledge on the controlled machines and control systems. He/She highlights issues and solutions to supervisors.

The Control Supervisor is requested to have a deep knowledge of all control systems, instrumentations and know the operation of all the devices on the unit/plant.The Control Supervisor leads a control department (CRO, Maint engineers and Instrumentation Specialist).

The Electrical Maintenance Engineer carries out electrical activities, repairs, maintenance procedures on all unit/plant electrical equipment. He/she needs to be knowledgeable about proper maintenance procedures and methods. He/she must demonstrate skills in fault finding and troubleshooting on electrical equipment. He/she applies corrective actions after problem detection in order to increase efficiency or unit reliability. He/She highlights issues and solutions to supervisors.

ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

The Field Production Operator is responsible for the execution of minor maintenance activities involved in the operation of rotating equipment. The Field Production Operator has to know start-up and shut-down procedures, including when the auxiliaries are switched on/off and needs to have a working knowledge of the machine components and their operation.

The Mechanical Maintenance Planner is responsible for the correct planning of maintenance activities, including spare parts provisioning, on all the unit rotating equipment, reporting machine deficiencies and requesting technical advice as necessary. The Mechanical Maintenance Planner is requested to have deep knowledge about machines operation, their internal processes and maintenance philosophy.

The Electrical Supervisor should have a deep knowledge of all electrical systems and instrumentation and be knowledgeable on the general operation of all the devices on the unit/plant. The Electrical Supervisor leads the electrical department.

The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer carries out simple and complex maintenance activities on the unit rotating equipment. The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is requested to have a deep knowledge about machine components and relevant maintenance procedures.

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor ensures the execution of proper maintenance on all the unit rotating machines and organizes mechanical activities on the units. The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor needs to fully understand the machine operation and maintenance procedures.

MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

MECHANICALMAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR (SENIOR ROTATING ENGINEER)

The Electrical Operator carries out electrical activities, operation procedures and monitors performance. He/ she needs to be knowledgeable about the proper procedures and methods of operations including standard/critical operating and specialty procedures. He/she also operates the machine (EM, PG, Excitation and all other electrical devices) via the HMI graphic pages. In case of an equipment failure, an operator has to implement emergency procedures and report the malfunction to Maintenance personnel. He/She highlights issues and solutions to supervisors.
