Learning To Live Kindness, Respect and Responsibility

It is exciting to see the track and field lines marked

on the oval in preparation for our upcoming athletics

carnival. I am confident that students will put in

their North Star 100% effort and make their teachers

(especially Mrs Nixon) extremely proud.

Thank you to the P&C for funding the marking of

our lines this year, and to Mrs Nixon for her ongoing

commitment to our whole school sports programs.

It was lovely to see some of our North Star families

at the Croppa Creek Bonfire and Fireworks night

last weekend. I look forward to having the

opportunity to interact with our neighbouring

communities through school events as we move into

the later part of the year.

We are in a unique position of influence as

educators, and perhaps the most important lesson we

can teach our children is to have the faith and

courage to follow their dreams.

What’s on in K/1/2

We have been learning about `writing for meaning’

in K/1/2 and students are beginning to identify

how texts can be structured in a certain way

depending on their purpose.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading some of our text

summaries, which are not only very informative,

but at times quite entertaining.

The following text summary was written by Mila

Brombal. A fabulous effort in attempting to use

less familiar words in your writing, Mila.

Diary of a Wombat was about a wombat who

always complained and complained. He slept every

day in the people’s backyard and he made himself

at home.

He made a big dust bath, he demanded carrots and

dug big holes in the back yard. One day he said to

himself “I am SICK of carrots!!!” So he knocked

over the bins until he got what he wanted.

Then he dug a hole under the people’s house so he

could get closer to them. He was a cheeky wombat.

Year 1

What’s happening in 3/4/5/6

3/4/5/6 students have been busy preparing for the

2018 Premier's Spelling Bee and learning different

strategies to spell unfamiliar and challenging

words. Our Year 6 boys have been been included

in a fantastic Rural/City School Connection Project

and look forward to receiving their first letters

from Stage 3 students at a school in Western

Sydney. This Friday some students from our class

will be venturing off to Coolah with Mrs Nixon to

compete in the North West Cross Country Carnival

and three Stage 3 boys will be heading to Warialda

PS with me to participate in their annual STEM

Day. On top of all of the kids' current hard work on

assessments used for mid year reports, our class

members have been busy practicing for their

athletics track and field events in the up and

coming carnival. Please encourage your child to

continue working on their Public Speaking

Assessment and I look forward to listening to

everyone's speech next week.

2018 Premier's Spelling Bee - Monday Week 8 Next week our school invites Parents/Carers to our

Stage 2 (Junior) and 3 (Senior) Spelling Bee that

will be held before our weekly assembly on

Monday 18th June.

At 2:00pm all students will assemble in the K/1/2

room to watch Year 3-6 students battle it out in our

school level Premier's Spelling Bee competition.

The winner of the Junior and Senior levels of the

competition will progress on to a regional level

competition and may even find themselves

competing at a state level in Sydney.

3/4/5/6 students have been busy practicing the

formalities of a spelling bee in class and all students

involved have shown lots of potential.

For Parents/Carers interested in practicing with

their child at home, please find below some

important information.
