The Đƌiisŵs of laƌge sĐale assessŵeŶts ƌaŶge fƌoŵ outƌight ƌejeĐioŶ of the ĐoŶĐept due to its suŵŵaiǀe Ŷatuƌe to its iŶefeĐiǀeŶess iŶ ĐoŶtƌiďuiŶg to iŵpƌoǀe studeŶt leaƌŶiŶg. IŶteƌesiŶglLJ, ďLJ iŶĐoƌpoƌaiŶg ĐeƌtaiŶŶoǀaioŶs aŶd ƌeseaƌĐh ǁithiŶ the assessŵeŶt desigŶ, LGP Ŷot oŶlLJ aǀoided the pifalls of laƌge sĐale assessŵeŶts, ďut ǁas eǀeŶ aďle to edžtƌaĐt faƌ ŵoƌe thaŶ ǁhat is tƌadiioŶallLJ edžpeĐted fƌoŵ assessŵeŶts of this kiŶd. LGP had a keLJ oďjeĐiǀe of ideŶifLJiŶg aŶd ƌeǁaƌdiŶg outstaŶdiŶg sĐhools that ǁeƌe aĐhieǀiŶg edžpeĐted leaƌŶiŶg ĐoŵpeteŶĐies, aŶd it iŶĐoƌpoƌated iŶto this ĐoŶĐeptual oďjeĐiǀe tǁo ƌelated posiioŶs, that of usiŶg suŵŵaiǀe assessŵeŶt data foƌ: a. foƌŵaiǀe puƌposes ;that is to iŵpƌoǀe teaĐhiŶg pƌaĐiĐes aŶd Đlassƌooŵ tƌaŶsaĐioŶsͿ, aŶd, ď.
