MOTIVATION Theoretical lectures explain concepts, principles, and theories through reading and discussion. They, therefore, enable students to acquire knowledge and gain theoretical insights. In contrast, case studies allow them to develop their abilities to analyze enterprise problems, learn and develop possible solutions, and make sound decisions. The main objective of the GBI case studies in general is for students to understand the concept of integration. These descriptive and explanatory case studies will allow students to understand the importance and the advantages of integrating different business information systems.

The main goal of this document is to help instructors prepare the SAP HANA system for the HANA Introduction case study process and to support them trouble-shoot problems that might occur during the course. Beside technical and didactic prerequisites, the lecturer notes list actions for testing and correcting student results in the SAP system. In addition, this document describes common problems and explains their reason and solution.

SAP HANA Introduction Curriculum – Lecturer Notes This document is intended to help instructors understand the curriculum exercises and the case study and manage the learning process in and outside the classroom. The main focus lies on prerequisites and common tasks such as testing and trouble-shooting.

After you downloaded the archive, unzip it using the Password “bipredictive” (without the quotes). Run the extracted executable to install SAP Predictive Analysis.

Client preparation: SAP BusinessObjects Data Services License

Before you can start to use the SAP BusinessObjects Data Services Client Tools like the Data Service Designer, you have to install a valid license key for the software on each client PC. You will get a valid license key with the handing over of your system from your UCC. If you have any questions concerning the license, please contact your UCC. To install the license, open the License Manager with

Start All Programs SAP BusinessObjects Data Services 4.1 SAP BusinessObjects License Manager.

Entry in hosts file

The SAP BusinessObjects Clients (including the Data Services Client Tools) require an entry in the hosts file of each client. The required line will be provided by your UCC. Open the file

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and add the line.

Open network ports

To access the different servers respectively services of SAP HANA and SAP BusinessObjects, several network ports need to be opened for communication. The specific ports are communicated by your UCC during handing over. Please contact your local system administrator for further instructions about how to open the network ports.

1. Open the SAP HANA Studio

2. For each student that you want to check, open his/her analytic view

SAP HANA Systems Content gbi-student-## Analytic Views SALES_AV_##

Here you can check if all fields were created correctly. In order to check if all calculations and data loads were conducted successfully, click on “Data Preview”.

Page 7: Lecturer Notes SP7 en MD

LECTURER NOTES

Here you have similar data exploration possibilities as with BusinessObjects Explorer, including filtering, aggregation etc. In order to check the validity of the values, compare them with the data of the GBI_DEMO1_SALES_AV Analytic View.

If you want to check if your students successfully created an information space of the Analytic view which is accessible through the SAP BusinessObjects Explorer, just open the Explorer with your administrative user. You can access all information spaces of your students.

Problem: The Browser doesn’t show any content

Symptom The content of the site is not available

Reason Wrong implementation / Resources aren’t available Solution Investigate by checking the JavaScript Console

Solution

You are using Google Chrome to check the student’s content in the browser. In the address bar of the browser, you typed in the correct address, for example: http://[FQHN of your SAP HANA Server]:[Development Port HANA Server]/[Client ID]/gbi-student-XXX/PROJECT/WebContent/index.html

If the browser doesn’t show the content that you expect, a first starting point for troubleshooting is the JavaScript Console.

To open the JavaScript Console, click on the menu symbol in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser. Then click on Tools and choose JavaScript-Console.

Problem: A file on the HANA Server is declared with “Inactive Version”

Symptom The file is marked with a red rhombus

Reason There is a conflict between two different versions of the file

Solution The file needs to be synchronized

Solution

Files can be updated by other users. Therefore, files can be released in a new Version. If you now want to activate your (different) version that is based on an older version then the updated one in the repository, you get an error.

In that case, the file will be marked with a red rhombus.

To solve that conflict, right-click on your project and choose Team Show in the Synchronize View.

Page 26: Lecturer Notes SP7 en MD

© SAP AG Page 26

LECTURER NOTES

Read the hint and click Yes.

In this view your project will be scanned for conflicting versions of files. These are shown in the left navigation bar.

Double-click on the affected file.

Now, the conflicting versions are shown side by side. On the left side you see your local (inactive) version and on the right side you see the active version from the repository.

Compare the versions. Differences will be marked by a blue bar.

You can change both versions. Afterwards you need to decide which version may solve the conflict. Right-click in the left navigation bar on the affected file and choose Team and then choose between Local Version and Remote Version.

Page 27: Lecturer Notes SP7 en MD

© SAP AG Page 27

LECTURER NOTES

Then you can leave the Synchronizing View by right-clicking the Team Synchronizing button in the upper right angle and clicking Close.

Now your file has the newest version and is also activated.
