• Social Media Policy • All aspects of keeping our members safe on & off the ice • Season totals

• Injury reports submitted • Player-20 • Coach-2

• Incident reports -2 (brought to director’s attention) • Code of conduct concerns - 2 (brought to directors/disciplines attention) • I have checked with Hockey Alberta, the RCMP and Child and Family Services, after discussing

the options will all these parties we will no longer be requiring the Child Intervention Check for Coaches, Managers & board members. This check was not proving to be beneficial when we already receive the Criminal Record Check.

• Starting the 2018/2019 season criminal record checks will be required every 2 years. If you have completed a criminal record check within the 2017/2018 season it will be valid through the 2018/2019 season. Hockey Canada/Hockey Alberta requires Criminal Record Checks every 3 years.

• There were a total of 301 positions that required Criminal Record Checks • All Criminal Record Checks will be held on file indefinitely.

Tournaments

• Tournaments we held: • September 2017 - Midget AA - 14 teams • November 2017 - Adam Myers Memorial Tournament - Peewee level with 456 kids

February 2018 - Gary Tremblay Memorial Tournament - Initiation level with 400 kids • Revenue from the tournaments this year was approximately $43,000 • 2018-2019

• Host the same tournaments as this season • Opportunity to host Provincials • Planning has started for the Midget AA tournament on September 20th - 27th

• Overall the year went good • A lot of work for 1 person • A sub-committee was used to get donations for the Adam Meyers Memorial Tournament

which helped. Equipment

• This past season we purchased jerseys for 5 peewee teams and 2 female teams. • We also bought an extra Bantam set and replaced some missing jerseys. • Next season we will be purchasing jerseys for the Novice teams. • AtoMc teams will be getting blue jerseys along with the current yellow jerseys. • Socks will also be provided for the blue jerseys. • The new lock up has turned out to be a great success and we will continue to use this location

for future use. Coach and Player Development

• Made and handed out coach’s binders for all Head Coaches to establish some consistency. We need to make the Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada’s criteria part of our culture as an organization.

Page 9: Leduc Minor Hockey Annual General Meetingcloud.rampinteractive.com/leducmha/files/2018 Annual... · 2019. 10. 30. · • Curtis Ferguson - NCI Female Elite . Motion to approve the

• Every Coach has full access to IceHockeysystems.com for use as a resource. Had 20 active accounts out of 30 possible. We can track usage to ask questions when issues arise.

• Booked Hockey 365 to come and do a full training session with every coach from Novice to Midget. Unfortunately, the head instructor who was going to run our sessions had to have neck surgery and was unable to facilitate us. Booking them late put us out. They were booked only after the Player/coach development position came open and I got it. There was not much time to organize as the season was just starting. This needs to be something that gets organized through the summer.

• Booked many Goalie Clinics and two hitting clinics. All went over very well. With money budgeted for development the plan is to have many clinics run on PD days and Holiday Mondays as every clinic that was ran on these days was very well attended. I have already reached out to some companies to start organizing for next season to run multiple clinics on PD and Holiday days. It’s been my experience that these clinics need to be booked over the summer as most companies are booked once the season starts.

• In my limited time as Director of Player/Coach Development and my first year on the board of LMHA I feel the season went well. This is a position that needs more than 7 months to get everything running 100% but I feel we are on the right track.

Initiation

• What a great season! 132 kids registered with LMHA, 6 others joined in the fun after My First Shift was over.

• 4 higher developed teams, 5 lesser developed teams, 1 brand new all girls team added to the mix.

• After getting settled into the new process using the ice dividers for 1/2 ice games and navigating dressing room usage efficiently, all teams seemed to settle into the program.

• Once again, we made use of the USA Hockey Red, White and Blue program. • 6U for the less developed kids and 8U for the more developed kids. • The station based training has proven to be extremely beneficial for development and

really helps keep these little ones active and attentive. • We were able to introduce goalie gear part way through the season with the four higher

developed teams and plan to have it available for the full season in 2018-19. This is key for the ones moving into Novice Division the following year.

• Hoping to iron out some equipment issues for next season so each team has everything they need at season start rather than it being available centrally at the Alex arena.

• Would also like to have a set of white and blue pinnies available at the Alex for inter-squad games until 2019-20 when the new jerseys are scheduled to be purchased.

• After five years as the Initiation Division Director it is time for someone else o take the ball and run with it.

• The ground work is there and I am confident the right person can take it to the next level. It has been tremendously rewarding to see the progress these young players have made in five short years.

• With the implementation of a Hockey Canada age appropriate, station based practice plan coming in 2019-2020 for the Novice Division, and the focus we are putting on coach and player development as an association, I am excited to see the success the future will bring to all of our participants.

Novice

• There were 139 players registered in Novice for the 2017-2018 hockey season. These players were divided into 8 teams. Evaluations took an extra week to create to ensure players were placed on the appropriate team. The Novice season got started after Thanksgiving.

• Novice 1 - Finished 2nd in the league and won the consolation banner. Wrapped up the season with a final tournament and a ‘C’ Final win

• Novice 2 - Had a great season and won the consolation banner. • Novice 3A - Had an excellent season and won gold in playoffs • Novice 3B - Lots of development and had fun • Novice 3C - Had a great season and won bronze in playoffs • Novice 4A - Had a great season and lots of player development • Novice 4B - Had a great season with lots of development • Novice 4C - Had a great season and won silver in playoffs • The 2017-2018 season was a successful season for all Novice players. We hope to have every

player returning next year. Atom

• Atom was good this year. No major issues or complaints throughout the year. • Our Tier 1 and Tier 5 teams participated in provincials. • Tier 1 Atom won the bronze banner this year which was a nice improvement from the season

before. • Congratulations to all the teams on a good season.

Peewee

• PeeWee teams had a great season. All teams played well and seemed to fit in with the regular season and games/tournaments. I heard many positive comments from both parents and coaches on the season and their teams. Overall, for the most part, all went well.

• PeeWee 1 - This team had a great season. They went to round 3 in Provincials and played for the consolation banner but fell short to Edson.

• PeeWee 2 - Lots of good feedback from the season. Team ended up with a 10-10-0 regular season record placing 3rd in their division.

• PeeWee 3A - From Coach Zimmer "We finished second in the regular season 10-4-4. Fell short in the playoffs but all in all it was a great season."

• PeeWee 3B - From manager Shannon Jordan “We had a great season except for one suspension near the end of the season. Our PeeWee 3B Team won the Bronze Championship, NAI Tier 5! "

• Thank you to all the coaches, coaching staff and managers for volunteering your time throughout the season.

• Thanks to all the board members for your dedication as well in keeping this organization running smoothly.

Peewee AA

• PeeWee AA finished the season with a record of 10-18-4 with 32 GP. with an additional 18 games played between tournaments and exhibition games.

• There were a total of 16 players on the team, only 1 returning from last season. Being that we are a zone team, players came from Leduc, Leduc County, Thorsby, Beaumont, Drayton Valley.

• We were proud to be represented at the Alberta Games by Tanner McKinnon and Ryley Campbell.

Page 11: Leduc Minor Hockey Annual General Meetingcloud.rampinteractive.com/leducmha/files/2018 Annual... · 2019. 10. 30. · • Curtis Ferguson - NCI Female Elite . Motion to approve the

Bantam

• We had 3 small teams in Bantam this year. • Our Tier 1 team was a middle of the pack team • We had 2 Tier 4 teams

• One team won gold • One team won consolation.

• After talking to coaches and managers they feel it would be beneficial for larger teams • It is important for us to do a better job to prepare our players for hitting with hitting clinics

throughout the season. • Early hitting clinics would help to prepare our peewee players so they are available as affiliates

early in the season. Bantam AA

• The team had an 18-0 record before their first loss. • Finished the season 21-7-4 • Played and won tournament in Jasper • 3 players and the head coach represented LMHA in Bonnyville for the All-Star game. • Currently playing in provincials.

Midget

• The Midget team this season had a great group of boys. • The team consisted of 6 first year, 6 second year and 6 third year players. • The Midget team finished the season with a record of 9-10-2 and a playoff record of 4-4-0 losing

the consolation banner to Smoky Lake. • The team, coached by Randy Allen, also finished the season with 358 penalty minutes which is

the lowest for this team since 2010. • The boys on team decided to forego a year end party an instead donated their leftover team

funds to the families of the Humboldt Broncos. • Thank you for a great season!

Midget AA

• Team finished the season one game under .500 and 4th place in our division. • Throughout the season the team struggled with player emotions and they ended up taking the

most penalty minutes in the entire league. A positive outcome from all the penalties is that the team was probably the best in the province on the penalty kill.

• There were a few player and coach conflicts, injuries and untimely suspensions. But overall the team came together in the final month and made a really good push going into playoffs.

• Team played well in the playoff tournament beating the top teams but fell just short losing their last game by one goal.

• After everything the team went through over the season there were still several players that have a chance at playing a higher level next year.

• For the third years that finished their minor hockey careers with us I would like to thank them for their leadership while trying to help keep things together during a rocky season.

New Business

• Current Bylaws state that the Administrator and the Financial Administrator position will be a three year term. Since we would not want to have two new people start in this position at the same time the first term of the Financial Administrator will be for one year. After the first year it will change to a three year position.

• Survey Monkey o Rob will do up summaries and send them to the VP of Directors. o Remove the question regarding the goalies from the surveys for next year to keep it

anonymous. o Rob will put a request ticket into Survey Monkey to allow for parents with multiple

children to fill out multiple surveys. o The board will review survey monkey to make sure we are taking full advantage of what

we are paying for. o If you were unable to complete the survey for multiple children and still wish to, please

email Rob their concerns and/or comments. • 2018/2019 Season – Hiring of Evaluators

o Hockey Evaluations will complete the evaluation process for all LMHA teams with exception of Initiation. This includes booking initial the sessions on our ice, organizing the skates, running the sessions. It is a turn key process. The process is posted on Hockey Evaluations website.

o Each player will have 4 skates; 1 skill skate and 3 games. Time trials would only be done for the Novice age group.

o Each player is coded with a number and the results of the evaluation are posted within 1 hour of their skate. This is to ensure confidentiality. LMHA has no input into the evaluation process.

o All the evaluators hired by Hockey Evaluations have previous experience in hockey with most having Junior, College and Professional backgrounds.

o Once the evaluations are complete, the information is passed to the appropriate LMHA Level Director.

o Hockey Evaluations have a proven method and over 10+ years of experience.
