Kindergarten had a funtime on their first FieldTrip! This month, we’relearning:
• Main Topic and KeyDetail of a text
• Rhyming words, soundblending, and sightwords.
• Addition and situationsinvolving addition
• Sorting and classifying
We will be working in thegarden this month!
First grade is stillworking hard and goingstrong! Remember:
• Read every night!
• Record the booksread each night onthe reading log
• Practice Spelling andHigh FrequencyWords
Our trip to Stanley PondAdventure Farm isNovember 7th.

Greetings Leesburg Families,Welcome to November! It is a
wonderful time to give thanks for the manyblessings in our lives. I am certainly thankfulfor the many blessings in my life, includingworking with the amazing children, parents,teachers, and support staff here at LeesburgElementary School.
Parents, we are implementing the 7Habits of Happy Kids here at LeesburgElementary. So far our students have learnedabout the first 3. Please use these at homewhenever possible to assist in our studentsembedding them in their daily decisionmaking.
Please continue to look at your child’snewsletters/agendas. Newsletters will beposted online to individual teachers’ webpages. I would like to encourage all parents toget involved in our PTO. This is a wonderfulway to have input on school procedures,policies and events. We need you!
What’s Happening This Month In…
Our Littlest Leaders had a fun monthin October on their first Field Trip.This month, we will be learning about:
• The remaining 13 letters of thealphabet
• Fairytales; Fiction vs. Non-fiction
• Counting on from a given number to10
• Numbers 1-20
All students should be able to write their names by now. Please practice!
Our next Field Trip is November 17th to Downtown Leesburg. Fee of $5
Is due Friday, November 3rd.

Fifth GradeThe Fifth grade continues to work hard in ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science.
• We are beginning to work on our Science Fair Projects!
• Our first field trip will be on November 9th to the Solar Bears Education Game Day
in Orlando
Fourth Grade#FourthGradeRocks! We are currently working on:
• Math: Finishing multiplication and strategies for division
• Science: Forms of matter
• Reading: Main Idea and DBQs
to practice the standards
• Writing: 7 Steps of writing
Our Field Trip to St.
Augustine is in May.
Third GradeThird Grade just completed their first round of STUDENT LED conferences! It was so much fun!
• Math: area in the real world
• Reading: opinion essays and exploring main idea, central message, and the different non-fiction text structures
• Science: Energy andthe upcoming Science
• Fair.
This month, we will be working with the HonorsArt students at Leesburg High School along withthe LES NEHS Club to complete a service projectthis month. Our focus is to improve theTeacher’s Lounge at LES. Check out ourprogress!

On Wacky Wednesdays in Art,Kindergarten through Fifth grades arelearning about scientific research andtagging whales in Antarctica. Studentsare making either penguins or whalesout of clay or origami.
The LES Chorus willperform on Saturday,November 4th at theVillages of Lady LakeElementary School FallFestival at 11:00. We aregetting ready for ourwinter musical onDecember 15th and 16th.
Leesburg ElementarySchool Skate Night will beMonday, November 6th.This fun family event willbe held from 5:30-7:30p.m. at Skate World. Thisspecial event is afundraiser for the MusicProgram. Make sure tobring $6.00, whichincludes rental skates.Speed and in-line skateswill have an additional$3.00 charge. Don’t missout on all the fun!

MediaIn November we will startreading and sharing aboutNative American heritageand we will read lots ofIndian stories. Mrs. Slighfeels strongly abouthistorical accuracy withregard to the way Indianswere treated when theEuropeans arrived, so besure to ask your studentwhat they feel aboutAmerican Indian history.
In K and 1st grades, we arepracticing our Log-Inusernames and passwordsand logging inindependently. Secondgrade continues to explorecoding, while 3rd-5th gradeslearn Microsoft Word.
PreK-2nd grades are working
on pairing and grouping while
using movement concepts. For
3rd-5th graders we are working
on activities that have the
students determining what
muscle group they are using
with various exercises.

Art ClubArt Club has begun and we are workingon several projects including a ‘Sun’contest. Lenabel won for ‘MostCreative’ and Veronica won for ‘BestCraftsmanship”. They are featured inthis photogram. Way to go, girls!

News from Girls on the Run
Empowering Students to become Tomorrow’s Leaders!
The Girls on the Run groupposed with the LeesburgPolice Pink Patrol Car lastmonth for Breast CancerAwareness. The girls willcontinue practicing twice aweek in November. Theirtraining is quickly coming toan end! They are lookingforward to running a 5K racein Orlando on December 9.

As your children outgrow their uniform tops and bottoms, please
consider donating gently used uniforms to the clinic for students
who are in need of a change of clothing during the day due to
spillage or accidents. The clinic could use donations of shirts, pants,
shorts, underwear, and socks for both boys and girls of all sizes.
