DETAILED PROGRAM
Saturday, 23rd of August, 2014
Upon the arrival of all participants, while check-ins and welcoming are ongoing, we thought
it would be a good idea to let everyone enjoy the great summertime by the pool side.
Delegation Leaders and ILO meetings will take place in the afternoon, as well as new
comers’ workshop in order to gather new participants. After the dinner, all participants will
start enjoying LEF with the get together party.
Sunday, 24th of August, 2014
After the breakfast, the opening ceremony will take place in the morning. Considering that
the ceremony will take whole morning time, the program will continue with lunch. As the
day will end with POC, delegations will be getting prepared for the rest of the day. Shuttles
will be provided to the delegations for shopping. If you still feel like partying after a crazy
POC night, an after POC-party will be arranged, no worries
Monday, 25th of August, 2014
The day starts with fun workshops which will be announced soon in E.L.I.C. We are planning
to arrange some cultural workshops in order to introduce our culture and traditions. You
will have the chance to choose different sessions in order to see more different things about
Turkish culture. ILO and DL meetings will take place during the second workshop session.
We will continue with serious POCs until dinner time. After the dinner, we will be having
another great party.
Tuesday, 26th of August, 2014
Participants will spend the whole day outside, discovering different parts of Istanbul. There
will be five different options:
- Sultanahmet Old Town Tour
- Spice Bazaar and Grand Bazaar Tour
- Revolution Tour in Taksim through Galata
- Prince’s Islands Tour
- Shopping Tour
8
We will kindly ask you to make your choice during the registration. As each tour will be
limited with a number of participants, we suggest you to get registered as soon as the
period starts in order not to miss your choices for sightseeing! After the sightseeing, we will
continue with the Bosphorus Tour for the rest of the night which is called “Pre-Gala Event”
Participants will have dinner at the boat and see the breath taking night view of beautiful
Bosphorus for a few hours and also start to party for sure! Returning back to the hotel, we
will continue with another party.
Wednesday, 27th of August, 2014
Today will be full of serious Leo events starting just after breakfast. Participants will join
their choices of serious workshops for sharing ideas and experiments. ILO and DL meetings
will be held afterwards. In the afternoon, meeting with international directors will be held,
where participants will have the chance to meet past International Directors from MD118
Nesim Levi, Hayri Ülgen and current International Director Oya Sebük. Considering the fact
that you will get tired of discussing serious topics, participants will have some free time to
relax until dinner. Night will end up at the party area.
Thursday, 28th of August, 2014
On Thursday, we will have another sightseeing trip around Şile region after the breakfast.
Having a quick trip over Şile, we will be carrying out a social activity. Participants will paint
the walls of a school in need, chosen by the Orgateam. As the school can not afford such
maintenance and repair, we have decided to help them to make children educate in a better
atmosphere. As we are still in negotiation with a few schools in the area, detailed
information will be given soon about the activity place. ILOs and DLs will leave the activity
early and held their meetings in the hotel. We left the afternoon free for you to get ready
for the gala night. Currently, we cannot provide you with further information about gala
night but we can assure you that it will be an unforgettable event The night will continue
with a party in the hotel.
Friday, 29th of August, 2014
After having a long and tiring week, you will be spending the whole day with pool-sun-fun
activities in the hotel which sounds very attractive at the moment Closing ceremony will
be held in the afternoon. Then we will have barbeque for dinner and continue with a party
as usual. We are happy to announce that the last party will be hosted by German Leos, host
delegation of LEF 2015

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ISTANBUL
Located in the centre of the Old World, Istanbul is one of the world’s great cities famous for its historical monuments and magnificent scenic beauties. It is the only city in the world which spreads over two continents: it lies at a point where Asia and Europe are separated by a narrow strait – the Bosphorus.
Istanbul has a history of over 2,500 years, and ever since its establishment on this strategic junction of lands and seas, the city has been a crucial trade centre. It is also one of the truly great romantic cities, straddling the Bosphorus with its skyline studded with domes and minarets. Indeed, today Istanbul hums as Turkey’s cultural heart and good-time capital.
Aside from the cultural importance, you cannot imagine the lovely view of Bosphorus – daytime and night- without being there. You will love our city and can easily admit to a major addiction for this characteristic destination like millions of others do! So please do not miss the chance to live this amazing experience

12
SIGHTSEEING During LEF, you will be outside, enjoying our great city by different tours organized by LEF Orgateam. We will have 5 different tour options, all of which are completely different from each other. Brief information of the tour options for sightseeing day is as follows: 1. Sultanahmet Old Town
Sultanahmet is formed by two different areas within itself being Sur-i Sultani Region and Sultanahmet Region where Topkapı Palace on Sarayburnu Hill on the eastern part of Historic Peninsula is located.
It was known as a horse-racing track that was the sporting and social centre of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine Empire and the largest city in Europe. Today it is a square named Sultanahmet Square in the Turkish city of Istanbul, with only a few fragments of the original structure surviving. It is sometimes
also called Atmeydanı (Horse Square) in Turkish. The course of the old racetrack has been indicated with paving, although the actual track is some two metres below the present surface. The surviving monuments of the Spina (the middle barrier of the racecourse), the two obelisks and the Serpentine Column, now sit in holes in a landscaped garden.
By chosing this tour, you will have the chance to see historical face of Istanbul. The tour will include some historically important spots such as the Egyptian Obelisk, the Walled Obelisk, the Serpent Coloumn, the German Fountain, the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and more.
2. Spice Bazaar/Grand Bazaar
Spice Bazaar: The Spice Bazaar (Turkish: Mısır Çarşısı, meaning Egyptian Bazaar) in Istanbul, Turkey is one of the largest bazaars in the city. Located in the Eminönü quarter of the Fatih district, it is the second largest covered shopping complex after the Grand Bazaar. The building itself is part of the külliye (complex) of the New Mosque. The revenues obtained from the rented shops inside the bazaar building were used for the up keeping of the mosque. This would be a perfect choice for participants who are interested in cultural and local food in Turkey. As well as baharat (spices), nuts, honeycomb and olive-oil soaps, the
13
bustling spice bazaar sells truckloads of incir (figs), lokum (Turkish delight) and pestil (fruit pressed into sheets and dried).
Grand Bazaar: The Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı) is one of the largest covered markets in the world with 60 streets and 5,000 shops, and attracts between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. It is well known for its jewellery, hand-painted ceramics, carpets, embroideries, spices and antique shops. Many of the stalls in the bazaar are grouped by type of goods, with special areas for leather, gold jewellery and the like. The bazaar has been an important trading centre since 1461 and its labyrinthine vaults feature two domed buildings, the first of which was constructed between 1455 and 1461 by the order of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. The complex houses two mosques, four fountains, two hamams, and several cafés and restaurants. In the center is the high domed hall of the Cevahir Bedesten, where the most valuable items and antiques were to be found in the past, and still are today, including furniture, copperware, amber prayer beads, inlaid weapons, icons, mother-of-pearl mirrors, water pipes, watches and clocks, candlesticks, old coins, and silver and gold jewellery set with coral and turquoise. A leisurely afternoon spent exploring the bazaar, sitting in one of the cafés and watching the crowds pass by, and bargaining for purchases is one of the best ways to recapture the romantic atmosphere of old Istanbul.

3. Revolution Tour in Taksim / Galata
Taksim Square and Istiklal Street: What is there in Taksim? Simply everything! History, culture, art, shopping, entertainment of all kind, Turkish food, all kinds of people, rich and poor, cosy and posh, anything… It is where you should not leave Istanbul without seeing. Taksim (Beyoğlu and Istiklal Street are the main parts) lies on a historic region. The region is alive nearly for 24
hours. There are many opportunities for different tastes for entertainment. Taksim square also has a special meaning for Turkish people as it was the heart of 2013 protests in Turkey started on 28 May 2013, initially to contest the urban development plan for Istanbul's Taksim Gezi Park. The protests were sparked by outrage at the violent eviction of a sit-in at the park protesting the plan. Subsequently, supporting protests and strikes took place across Turkey protesting a wide range of concerns, at the core of which were issues of freedom of the press, of expression, assembly, and the government's encroachment on Turkey's secularism. 3.5 million of Turkey's 80 million people are estimated to have taken an active part in almost 5,000 demonstrations across Turkey connected with the original Gezi Park protest. During this tour, you will walk along the Istiklal street, seeing many people in different styles, many buildings in different shapes, even being surprised of how many small passages seem to be hidden on the way.
Galata Tower: By walking along the Istiklal Street, you will finally arrive to the Galata Tower. The Galata Tower (Galata Kulesi in Turkish) — called Christea Turris (the Tower of Christ in Latin) by the Genoese — is a medieval stone tower in the Galata/Karaköy quarter of Istanbul, just to the north of the Golden Horn's junction with the Bosphorus. One of the city's most striking landmarks, it is a high, cone-capped cylinder that dominates the skyline
and offers a panoramic vista of Istanbul's historic peninsula and its environs. It was built in
15
1348 at the apex of fortified walls and after the Ottoman conquest, it was used to house prisoners of war and later became an observatory. In the 1960s, the tower was restored and a restaurant and nightclub were added. You can either enjoy a glass of wine in nearby bars or get a bird’s eye view from the top.
4. Princes Islands
The nine small islands about 20 km (10.5 miles) southeast of the centre of Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara were called the Princes Islands by foreign chroniclers because of Byzantine emperors' practice of sending bothersome princes there to be blinded, exiled or executed, but today's citizens of Istanbul call them simply Adalar ("The Islands"). In medieval times they were the sites of monasteries, away from the
bustle and temptations of the city., but with the advent of steamships and convenient ferryboat service the 19th century, the four larger islands—Büyükada, Heybeliada, Burgazada and Kınalıada— became summer resorts. The quiet ambience of a century ago is preserved today as no private motor vehicles are allowed on any of the islands. Everyone walks, or rides bicycles, or takes horse-drawn carriages (fayton).
5. Shopping tour in Istinyepark
Istinye Park is a shopping centre in the İstinye quarter of Istanbul, Turkey with 291 stores. The centre features both enclosed and open air sections. The open air section is especially for the luxurious shops and fancy restaurants full of Turkish celebrities. There is also an authentic Turkish food bazaar- a traditional market place in the mall, inspired by Turkish architecture and history.

Final report: The Final Report of LEF 2014 will be published online in www.lef2014.org as of the last day of LEF. If you require a paper copy, please inform the Orgateam upon your arrival and we will provide you one. The reasons we offer an online version of the Final Report are, the high cost of making paper copies and environmental reasons to lower pointless paper usage.
