Victim Witness Division addresses itself to the needs of crime

victims, providing crisis intervention, advocacy, and where

possible, restitution and victim compensation. The DA also

maintains a Community Protection Division which protects

• Description: The Colorado Court system is divided into 22

judicial districts. Each district has a court and each county

within the judicial district has a county court. The 20th Judicial

District is comprised of Boulder County. The Courts of the 20th

Judicial District have two locations, Longmont and Boulder. All

District Court and some County Court cases are handled at the

Boulder Justice Center.

appointment.

• Services: Certain kinds of civil (family law) and misdemeanor

criminal cases in Boulder county, juvenile, asylum, SSI and

non-litigation business matters.

• Guidelines for representation: Each clinic has different

guidelines for selecting cases and not all clinics accept calls

mornings and Friday afternoons at the Longmont Courthouse.

• Description: Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence

(SPAN) is a human rights organization committed to ending

violence against adults, youth and children through support,

advocacy, education and community organizing. SPAN serves

all genders and ages by providing crisis intervention and on-

going support Services to people dealing with issues either

directly or indirectly stemming from intimate partner violence. Legal Advocacy: The SPAN Legal Advocacy Program provides

victims with assistance, support and information about criminal,

civil and immigration legal processes. They help victims

navigate the justice system by accompanying them to court,

providing clinics for immigration and civil issues and assisting

victims with obtaining Civil Protection Orders. Court Advocates

are available at the Boulder County Justice Center and the

Broomfield Court. SPAN

• Advocacy: Court Advocates are not attorneys and thus, cannot

provide legal advice or representation. Advocates will attend

court proceedings with victims for support and will advocate on

their behalf during interactions within the judicial system.

Advocates also connect victims with community resources and

provide referrals to private attorneys.
