TOM NORGAARD 9 TH DISTRICT COMMANDER Notice of 9 th District Mid-Winter Conference Call Thomas T Norgaard Sr Ninth District Commander Vice-Commander at Large GREETINGS First of all, I would like to thank all of you for your hard work this past month in membership recruit- ment. Because of your efforts we made the national target of 65% by the cut-off date of 14 November. The next national target is 75% and the membership is due in department headquarters no later than 10 December at 12 o’clock noon. Just a reminder that there will be a special dues notice sent out by national on or about 27 Nov and so my hopes are high that this will produce an influx of early Dec transmittals. We had a very enjoy- able time at our district member- ship rally in November which was hosted by the Dent American Legion Post. A nice turn-out of American Legion Family Members and Legion membership turned in that day was over 120 members. We have our annual Department of Minnesota Pearl Harbor Car Caravan coming up on 07 Dec. in Osseo. If you cannot make it to the event and have membership to transmit, please contact your area vice commander and make arrangements to have it picked up. Now is the time of year to start emptying those cigar boxes sitting behind the bar with memberships. For those of you that are Facebook users, please remember to “like” the MN NINTH DISTRICT page as it contains a good deal of info., and lots of pictures, Legion happenings. I hope to see a lot of you at our 9 th District Christmas Party which will be held on 14 December 2013 at the Plummer American Legion Post Home. Denise and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and Happy New Year! Also a Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends. Until next time, DENNIS J. GREETINGS First of all, I would like to thank all of you for your hard work this past month in membership recruit-ment. We had a very enjoy-able time at our district member-ship rally in November which was hosted by the Dent American Legion Post. A nice turn-out of American Legion Family Members and Legion membership turned in

that day was over 120 members. AREA II VICE-COMMANDER GREETINGS

With Veteran's day over now we look forward to the Turkey day. Membership turn in is going well with Euclid Post 539 at goal, congratulations. As of the membership rally Area II was at 77.43%. Bagley, Crookston and East Grand Forks are straggling with minus 41, 23 and 42 from last year. I know some of the posts have lost members due to death but we need to keep looking for those new members. The BLUE CAPPER is the one that brings in that new member by just ASKING are you a member of the Ameican Legion??? Keep up the good work for the organization and have a safe holiday time. TERRY BURAAS Area II Vice-Commander

AREA III Vice-Commander GREETINGS I hope everyone had a Fantastic Veterans Day!!!!!!! \Area 3 is currently at 76.6% and we’ve 14 out of 16 Posts at 65% or better (which was the National goal for Nov 11th) but we need to continue to work on getting the renewals in as well as looking for new members. Congratulations to the Holland-Swenson Post 434 Hendrum for achieving a 100% and joining the Charles B Rikhus Post 412 Ulen. That makes it two Posts currently at 100% and two others knocking at the door. Our next membership goal is 75% and needs to be accomplished by December 11th. We currently have 11 of the 16 Posts at goal and I’m pretty confident that all 16 Posts in area 3 will be at the National Goal of 75% by December 11th. For upcoming events and rally’s, please check out the newsletter for these particular dates and remember everyone is

always welcome to attend these events. Enough said, I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Until next month, do all good things for The American Legion. Tim Haugen Area III Vice-Commander 701-261-6973 [email protected] AREA IV VICE-COMMANDER GREETINGS The American Legion Family 9th District Membership Rally was Saturday, November 16th at Dent Post 148 at 2:00pm. Thomas Norgaard, the 9th District Commander, called the meeting to Order at 2:00pm. We had welcoming speech’s from the Post Commander and Unit President. I gave membership to Dennis Henkemeyer, the 9th District Vice Commander at Large. Membership turn-in from Detroit Lakes 33, Fergus Falls 21, and Underwood 5. This was a great turnout for Area Four. December events are Pearl Harbor rally and our District Nine Christmas Party at Plummer Ninth District E-Board Meeting is 17th of January 2014 at 7:00 pm. for the Mid-Winter at Crookston Post 20. The next day the 9th District Mid-Winter Conference starts at 9:00 am. Henning post 18 and Dent post 148 are 100%. Deer Creek post 283 is 95.38%. Parkers Prairie post 219 is 86.76%. Wolverton post 370 is 84.21%. Perham post is 81.03%. Breckenridge post 53 is 77.61%. Fergus Falls post 30 is 74.52%. Barnesville post 153 is 73.41%. Underwood post 489 is 72.79%. Please remember our troops and veterans in all our prayers, till next time. Jasen Hruza Area IV Vice-Commander

CHAPLAIN’S CORNOR Thanksgiving has come and gone. The meal has been eaten and the fellowship enjoyed. I have a long list of things for which I am thankful. As we come into the Christmas season, remember our veterans who are without families and those in nursing homes. Keep our troops in your hearts and prayers. In the midst of all the celebration, take time to show them that they are loved. Let us not forget the biggest event of the year: the Birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We must work together to preserve our freedom of religion. There are always those who would like to take away our beliefs and symbols. With half of our year behind us, let’s be diligent and make it a good year. May God bless you always. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Lowell D. Philp 9th District Chaplain AMERICANISM In November we remember all our Brothers and Sisters on Veteran’s day. It also calls to mind how “Americanism” is the core of our culture. Americanism is ones loyalty to the United States of America and being proud of the countries cultural values and institutions. To stand up for what you believe in and to fight for it, to have freedom, to do what you wish, to practice your own religious ceremonies, customs, and beliefs. With these freedoms comes a responsibility, a responsibility to be accountable for your actions. God Bless all our Servicemen, All Veterans, and “God Bless America”. Bruce G. Reichert 9th Dist. Americanism Chair
