Updating Firmware on the Leica Viva CS10/15 Field Controller
Please follow the steps to update firmware on a Leica Viva CS10 and CS15 Field Controller.
Before you begin, you will need the following tools to complete the firmware update on your CS controller:
Leica CS10 or CS15 field controller
Leica SD Card
(1) Fully Charged Leica Li-Ion Battery GEB212
Up-to-date Leica Customer Care Package (CCP)
Leica License Key file
Leica Viva Application files
Leica Viva CS Firmware data file (available from Leica MyWorld, or through Spatial Technologies Technical
Support)

Download SmartWorx Viva Firmware files
Before you begin the firmware update, ensure that your Leica Customer Care Package (CCP) is up-to-date. If your CCP
has expired your Viva system may not allow you to upgrade your current firmware. Log on to your Leica MyWorld
account (https://myworld.leica-geosystems.com) and add your product to your MyProducts list, if you have not already.
In the details of the product, in the Overview tab, you will be able to verify if your CCP is up-to-date. If it is not, please
contact our office right away.
Download software keys and
save to the SYSTEM folder of
your SD card

Leica SmartWorx Viva firmware and application files are available at Leica MyWorld by accessing the SOFTWARE tab
under the details of your Leica product.
NOTE: If you do not have access to Leica MyWorld, contact our support department, and they can supply you with the
latest firmware files. Our Support department can be reached by email: [email protected] or toll-free at (855)414-9453.
Download firmware file and
save to the SYSTEM folder of
your SD card
Download application files and
unzip the file to the SYSTEM
folder of your SD card

Once you have downloaded the CS firmware file you will need to install it into the System folder on your Leica SD card.
ONLY LEICA BRAND SD CARDS SHOULD BE USED FOR THIS PROCESS. Other brand cards may fail and damage your CS
Field Controller.
Simply copy the firmware file (file type .fw) to the System folder of the SD card.
Copy Firmware file (file suffix .fw) to the System
folder of your SD card.
Make sure that there is only 1 firmware file in the
SYSTEM folder. The firmware upload will not
proceed if there are more than one .fw files in the
SYSTEM folder.
License Key File.
Unzip the Applications file to the System folder of
your SD card. Application files have the suffix .axx

Install SmartWorx Viva Firmware files
Eject the SD card from your computer and install the card into your CS controller.
It is good practice to back up the settings and data currently on your controller. From the main menu, select “USER”:

Select the “TOOLS & UTILITIES” option:
Select the ”Transfer User Objects” option:

Set Object to Transfer to ALL OBJECTS, From Internal Memory to SD card and click OK to continue.
With our data backed up, we can now proceed with updating the firmware. First, update the Smartworx License Key on
the controller.
From the main menu, select “USER”:

Select the “TOOLS & UTILITIES” option:
Select the ”Load License Keys” option:

Select the Load key: UPLOAD KEY FROM FILE, Device: SD CARD:
With the license keys install, move on to installing the firmware. From the main menu, select “USER”:

Select the “TOOLS & UTILITIES” option:
Select the ”Load Firmware, Apps” option:

Select “Firmware” as the object to transfer, from “SD card,” select the Firmware file, and click “OK” to continue:
Approve the confirmation to install the selected firmware by clicking “Yes.”
The process will take a few minutes and the CS will power down and back up again.
Select FIRMWARE as Object to Transfer
From: SD CARD
Select the Firmware version to install
Click “OK” to continue
Verify the proper Firmware version

Finally, update the Applications on the controller. From the main menu, select “USER”:
Select the “TOOLS & UTILITIES” option:

Select the ”Load Firmware, Apps” option:
Select the Object to transfer: Apps, Device: SD CARD, and check the box to INSTALL ALL APPS:
Verify the version of the applications being installed
Check the box to Install All Apps

Your firmware is now installed and your CS instrument is now ready to use. Make sure to update the MyWorld page for
your instrument to reflect the firmware update.
