is temporarily out of order.
Our Director of Programs saw an article in a Magazine about making Twiddle Muffs for Alzheimer Patients. She Decided that this was a worthwhile project and joined by some craft-ers made them up from a pattern, she found on the internet. On July 13th Olga and Elaine donated these to Bradford Valley. “Well done Olga”

Boutique News The Boutique has been receiving quite a few
new items lately. There are a lot of slacks, shorts and t-shirts that have come in recently that are in excellent condition.
As a result, we will have a 50% sale
for the month of Aug.
Any new members who may not be aware that we have the Boutique let me explain. The Boutique is behind the stage and it is open 9-3, Mon. to Fri. We sell gently used clothing and footwear for women and men at very reasonable prices. The prices are marked on the items and if no one is there you can drop your money in the money box or give it to the office. Why not come in and see what we have to offer. Hope to see you in the Boutique. Olga Bishop
GWILLIE CARROT PINS Hello Everyone Carrot Fest and Carrot Pins go to-gether like bread and butter. Well the Gwillie Pins are all done for this year. The crafters have made 1000 of them to be sold at Carrot Fest on Saturday Aug 19. All proceeds of their sale are do-nated to Ronald McDonald House in Toronto. This is a very reputa-ble charity that offers a place for parents to stay while their child is
receiving treatment at Sick Kids Hospital. Many of you have pins from previous years but we sincerely hope you buy one again for 2017. We look forward to seeing you visit us at our booth at Carrotfest and support the Craft Ladies by buying a Gwillie Carrot Pin for only $1.00. They are also on sale at the Danube Centre for those who cannot attend Carrot Fest. Thank You Olga Bishop
Saturday at the Movies
Saturday August 26th at 1:00 p.m. $ 3.00 covers popcorn and refreshments.
Adapted from Margot Lee Shetterly's book Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race, the film focuses on
three real-life African-American female pioneers:
Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, who were part of NASA's team of human "computers." This was a group made up of mostly women
who calculated by hand the complex equations that allowed space heroes like Neil Armstrong, Alan Shepard, and John Glenn to travel safely to space. Through sheer tenacity,
force of will, and intellect, they ensured their stamp on American history—even if their story has re-mained obscured from public view until now.

Vulnerable Persons Register CHATS will be at the Danube Seniors Centre on Aug 24 and Aug 31 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
to take registrations. People will have to make an appointment by calling 1-888-812-4287. Also they will need to bring a photo or the actual person. Why register? – it will help the police un-derstand how best to assist the registered person, such as how to communicate with the vulnerable person, who the officer should call and any other information that would be helpful in case of in-volvement between the registered person and the police. Examples of Vulnerable Persons - per-sons with autism, dementia, acquired brain injury, mental health issues, that may cause a person to exhibit a-typical behaviours (e.g. wandering, physical instability, inability to communicate, aggres-sion, irrational fear, oversensitivity to sensory stimulus (sounds, lights, touch). Obituary
Sadly one of our original members
Don McGugan passed away in his 95th year on
June 29,2017
Don was instrumental in writing the Danube Seniors Leisure Cen-tre Constitution, the rule book of how the Centre is run. He also created the first pam-phlet for new mem-bers to the Centre with all the programs the Centre has to of-fer as well location and telephone num-ber. His philosophy on life was great.
Life has to be lived in new ways and much
of it in an unhurried fashion. In time all of us should make the best of it. He was the kind of person who said what he meant and meant what he said. We will miss him.

An elderly couple had dinner
at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentle-men were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great I would recom-mend it very highly.' The other man said, 'What is the name of the restau-rant?' The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What’s the name of that flower you give to some-one you love? You know, the one that's red and has thorns.' 'Do you mean a rose?' 'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned to-wards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'
Hospital regulations require
a wheel chair for patients being dis-charged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sit-ting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he didn't need my help to leave the hospital. After a chat about rules being rules, he re-luctantly let me wheel him to the ele-vator. On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him. 'I don't know,' he said. 'She's still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.'
Morris , an 82 year-old man,
went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gor-geous young woman on his arm. A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, 'You're really do-ing great, aren't you?' Morris replied, 'Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.'' The doctor said, 'I didn't say that.. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur; be care-ful.'

July Birthdays
“Warmest Wishes” Christmas in July
“Deck the Halls” goes the old song, and deck the hall we did with no fewer than 3 dazzling Christmas trees, Christmas wreaths, mistle-toe, vases of candy canes and a Christmas chocolate at every place setting for “Warmest Wishes”, a.k.a. “Christmas in July” on Saturday, July 29
th.
Elaine gave a “presidential welcome” to all who attended, many in their shorts and san-dals – with Christmas hats, earrings, brooch-es, necklaces and neckties to mark the occasion.
Our kitchen volunteers spent countless hours preparing a FABULOUS, old-fashioned turkey dinner with all the trimmings. M-m-m, m-m-m good!
Mike projected lyrics so everyone could join Judy in a Christmas sing-along, and Jan limited herself to one stupid joke before dessert.
Many thanks to George Stamper for convincing “Front Porch Harmony” to step in and provide live music at the last minute. I couldn’t help singing along with these four ladies, could you?
Special thanks to Trevor Chantler (hint: Ho! Ho! Ho!), and to the volunteers who came early setting up and stayed late tidying up after the event.

Look at the picture first and then read the story:
This actually happened to an Englishman, in,France, who was totally drunk. French policeman stops the Englishman's car and asks if he has been drinking. With great difficulty, the Englishman ad-mits that he has been drinking all day, that his daughter got married that morning, and that he drank champagne and a few bottles of wine at the reception, and many single malts scotches thereaf-ter. Quite upset, the policeman proceeds to alco-hol-test (breath test) the Englishman and verifies that he is indeed completely hammered. He asks the Englishman if he knows why, under French Law, he is going to be arrested. The Englishman answers with a bit of humour, "No sir, I do not! But while we're asking questions, do you realize that this is a British car and my wife is driving . . . on the other side?
Time Issue My grandfather was sipping a beer when he confessed to me he’d drunk more than usual the day before. “What’s more than usual?” I asked. “A case.” “You can drink a case in a Day?!” “Well,” he grumbled defensively, “it doesn’t take all day.”
The Good Old Days I have no respect for gangs to-day. They just drive by and shoot people. At least in the old days, like in West Side Story, the gangs used to dance with each other first.
Blind Date “How was your blind date?” “Terrible! He showed up in a 1932 Rolls-Royce.” “What’s so terrible about that?” “He was the original owner.”

Back in Time For her 40th Birthday, my wife said, “I’d love
to be ten again. “So that Saturday, we had a
heaping stack of chocolate-chip pancakes,
her favorite childhood breakfast. Then we hit
the playground and a merry-go-round. We
finished the day with a banana split. “So
how did you enjoy being a kid for a day?” I
asked. “Great,” she said. “But when I said I
wanted to be ten again, I meant my dress
size.”
