This week, I'd like to draw your attention to several different items. Laetare Sunday - Fourth Sunday of Lent This Sunday is known as Laetare Sunday, which means "rejoice" in Latin. Why do we rejoice during this somber season of Lent? Certainly we are aware that we are still approaching the sor-rowful days when we remember the passion and death of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Yet, on Laetare Sunday - this Sunday, we can look ahead to the joy of Easter, realizing it is now on the horizon. To-day, we are lifted up by our faith and hope that Jesus has truly risen from the dead. Novena to St. Joseph Please join me in pray-ing our 9 day novena to St. Joseph (found on page 7 of this bulletin and in the pews in church) for increased en-rollment at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School. We will begin praying this novena today, March 11, and con-clude on the Solemnity of St. Joseph, husband of Mary, which is on Monday, March 19. To conclude the novena and celebrate this solemnity, I will be offer-ing Holy Mass at 8:30 a.m. on this day. Annual Catholic Appeal First and foremost, I'd like to say "Thank You" to Dave Leary and Craig Uselman, for their assistance in show-ing the video from the diocese at last weekend's Masses. I'd also like to thank everyone who so generously responded to this year's Annual Catho-lic Appeal (ACA). As I mentioned previ-ously, our 2018 parish goal to support the ministries of the Diocese of Madi-son is $70,558. When we all work to-gether, we can ensure that God's work

in the Church will continue. As follow-ers of Christ, our mission is to continue to spread the Gospel message, which can be accomplished through the min-istries of the Church. If you have not yet provided your pledge or contribu-tion, this weekend we are offering an-other opportunity. You may simply complete one of the pledge envelopes that are located in the pews, and place it in the regular offertory collection. Please help our parish in doing our part in this year's ACA. Pastoral Council Nominations It is that time of year again,

when we seek nominations for the Pastoral Council. In next weekend's bulletin, we will provide forms for nomi-nating parishioners you feel would qualify as a candidate for the Pastoral Coun-cil. During this coming week, I ask that you pray about this, and consider whom you might nominate (including yourself). Some qualifications to consider: Do they attend weekly Mass? Are they active-

ly involved in any other parish minis-tries? Do they have a genuine concern for the well being of our parish and parishioners? Do they work well with others? Could their profession or work experience lend to offer constructive advice and input to the pastor? Just a reminder - these are simply nomina-tions and not a guarantee that those nominated will be elected to the coun-cil. Pastoral Council elections will take place on Mother's Day weekend in May. I am very grateful to those who currently serve on the Pastoral Council, and I appreciate their support, prayers and advice. Please know that you are al-ways in my prayers,

Rev. Fr. Chad Droessler, Pastor 1-608-620-5849

Stewardship Reflection for March 11, 2018 4th Sunday of Lent “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son…” - JOHN 3:16 Of all the wonderful gifts that God has given to us, the gift of His own Son is truly the greatest. How can we ever thank God for a gift like that? God does not ask us to sacrifice our own precious firstborn, but He does ask that we are grateful and generous with our God-given gifts. Faithful Stewards nurture and devel-op their gifts and return them with increase.

Parish Online Giving Immaculate Heart of Mary now provides an opportunity for online parish giving, which also allows payment by credit card. Simply visit our parish website (www.ihmcatholicparish.org), click

ADULT FAITH ENRICHMENT Catholicism - The Pivotal Players

Sessions continue—9:15 a.m. on Tuesday mornings in the Church Meeting Room.

Blessed John Henry Newman - March 13/20 G.K. Chesterton - March 27/April 3

Now available in the IHM Book Kiosk 'Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?’ by Carl Olson

Major feature films such as “The Passion of the Christ” and “Risen”, and books such as Bill O'Reilly's “Killing Jesus” raise many questions about one of the greatest con-troversies in history--what really hap-pened to the crucified body of Jesus of Nazareth? Using a popular question-and-answer format, this book examines the historical evidence concerning the fate of

Jesus. Did Jesus really die on the cross? If so, what be-came of his body? Was it stolen? Misplaced? Is the res-urrection a cleverly devised plot to found a new reli-gion? Did the disciples of Jesus hallucinate? Is the Resur-rection of Jesus a myth developed decades later, after the original disciples' experience of Jesus was distorted by a subsequent generation? Or did Jesus rise from the dead, as he promised and as his disciples came to be-lieve and sacrifice their lives to proclaim? Carl Olson carefully weighs the evidence with in-depth analysis. Whether you are a believer, a skeptic, or something in between, be prepared to have your thinking challenged by this provocative and insightful book.
