    Multiliteracies

    The term multiliteracies in fact covers what has

    also been regarded as electronic literacy, digital

    literacy, visual literacy, and print-based literacy

    Now, more than ever the lives of

    young children are saturated with

    multimedia

    Globalization, increasing diversity of language,

    culture, multimedia and information technologies

    calls for new teaching techniques

    Many texts carry

    their message

    through acombination of print

    and images. Many

    children begin school

    with a familiarity with

    icons and screens

    although reading,

    writing, listening

    and speaking are

    paramount, todaysstudents must be

    able to do more.

    The traditional

    literacy skills are at

    the heart of theseliteracies.

    Traditional and new

    must be integrated.
