Intro to Leviticus

Because of the Israelites’ disobedience, Moses broke the tables of stone


The Second Set of Tables

Moses returned to Mount Sinai with a new set of stone tables, upon which God recorded a new law, different from the first (see Joseph

Smith Translation, Exodus 34:1—2 [Guide to the Scriptures, 270]).

Instead, the Israelites received the law of Moses, administered through the Aaronic Priesthood as a “schoolmaster to bring [them]

unto Christ” (Galatians 3:24).

Leviticus

• What is it? What could you compare it to today?– Aaronic Priesthood manual

• Who was it for?– Levites– Aaronic Priesthood = Levitical Priesthood

• This is when the lesser priesthood is established.• It is also when the priesthood is spread to more than

just the prophetical line. The entire tribe of Levi would administer this “preparatory” priesthood.

• Preparatory for what?


Jesus Christ fulfilled the law of Moses through His mortal ministry and atoning sacrifice.

In the latter days, the Lord has restored the law of the gospel in its fulness.

Let’s Review

• The Holy Priesthood is the power to act in the highest ordinances of the Gospel and be in the presence of God.

• The Israelites were not ready and could not endure, so they were given a preparatory law and priesthood.

• We now have the fullness of the Gospel and the priesthood has been restored.

What is this really about?

• What is the real reason behind all of this? What needs to happen to be in the presence of the Lord?

• D&C 131:1-4• It’s about families, eternal

life, eternal increase, the power to seal families for eternity.

• This is the whole plan.
